Greetings. 

Uh, so I’ve been working on this meta post for around 3 months now, gathering screenshots, gathering feedback, gathering more screenshots. The result is what could conceivably be called thorough.

Compared to the animation I made as the header, the post’s content was much harder to put together and write; I consider the animation icing on the cake. If you liked the animation, and like Chara (or don’t like Chara) then please consider reading the meta. It’s finally done!

I think a big, fascinating issue is that Kyle refuses to accept he likes playing Cartman’s games, so he’ll get caught up in them and then when a line gets crossed or something bad happens, he runs through it on pure adrenaline, and it’s only when he comes down from that high that he feels guilty. So he experiences this wave of guilt, and paranoia that others are judging him or blaming him, so he pins the blame on Eric (funnily enough—just like Eric does to Kyle). Kyle will not accept his role in a lot of these scenarios because of his martyr complex and because he doesn’t want to admit how obsessed he becomes once Eric gets the ball rolling. This usually results in him verbally projecting this idea out into the universe that he hates Eric or isn’t friends with him just to make himself feel better when that’s… literally and fundamentally false. So he’s just making Eric’s already twisted idea of their relationship worse because they’re not allowed to be “friends” or happy or spend time alone. Which is why the times you see Kyle and Eric spending time alone together on good terms is when Kyle is on less pleasant terms with Stan. I feel like if Kyle took a step back and was forced to reassess their relationship—if someone called him out on the fact that he keeps Eric around and doesn’t even treat him like a friend (Why even waste your time with him if you don’t like him, and you’re not friends, and all he does is piss you off? You’ve spent years in this cycle and if nothing’s changed, then he’ll never change. Someone like that isn’t even capable of love.)—he’d realize that for all he expects Eric to treat him humanely, he hasn’t been treating Eric right either. Yes, Eric needs to change, but so does Kyle. Kyle refuses to be self-introspective. He refuses to admit his wrong-doings, and he’s so caught up in being right and the game that he doesn’t ever show Eric that he cares about him. Yes, we as an audience know he does, but does Eric? Imagine how much easier it would be for Kyle to help Eric get better—something Kyle genuinely and wholeheartedly wants—if he called him his friend, invited him to hang out alone without pretense, or just had a genuine heart-to-heart with him that didn’t stem from anger?
