Family Weekend at the Goleon Lake

We have decided to take again a break on the Mountains before refuges close for the winter. We heard about the refuge of the Goleon. It was recently restored in 2005 and it is not located too far from the car(4 years old kid walking). The great advantage of this refuge is its location close to a nice fishing lake and thus, leave alone my older son and....being sure I will have good fish for dinner on Sunday night!

Note that the road from Hameau de Valfroide and the parking is a gravel road and very narrow. When arriving a car was with its left wheels on the ditch!!

We fished more than 5 fish but most too small to keep and we free them until next year. Between these, we got 5 Arctic charr(Salvelinus alpinus)

Very early I decide to climb up to Glacier Lombard alone but just when arriving I see a lot of snow and not crampons or sticks to help me. U-turn and go back to the Lake.

While going down a big flock of sheeps invaded the valley and when wanting to cross it, a big sheepdog appeared. They called these dogs “patous” and they are quite impressive and look really aggressive. I had to climb down to the river to make him relaxed...ouhhhff...crazy!

4 days with family in The Dolomites

Done, we go to spend some time to The Dolomites in the Puez-Odle. We came before to Dolomites but to Cortina region. Dolomites are gorgeurs but...the weather changes very fast and it is always good to have a secondary plan as to head South to Garda if weather gets too bad to do Mountains!

We do not have a camp ground reservation...grrr...all campgrounds are full at this time of the year in the Dolomites. Very expensive region(even campgrounds-not many though). We head straight to Seiser Alm Camping Alpe di Siusi and we ask for place. They tell us we have free camp site in a nice area without shade...ok. We go to see and...my goodness...are they serious?, it is all in slope!...crazy!...how are you able to sleep in a hill?

We had to leave the region and head up-North(no more campgrounds in this area)...huge traffic jam at Ponte Gardena. We decided then to stop in the closest camping: Camping Ansitz Wildberg.

At the end we were not really close to the Puez Odle but we were against traffic jams(many in the Dolomites if your take the wrong hour and direction)

Day 1.- Tour at the Altopiano

This is the train we wanted to complete but at the end we cut it in the middle. We have 2 kids of 4 and 9 years and the youngest one was too tired. We went up to the Passo Crespina and then down to the Gondola at P.te Gardena
