Patric trusted every word she spoke. Bealish had said that she could never be afraid of him - and he trusted that, he truly believed it, that she would always be there, that she, unlike all the other non-demon beings not used to see his kind, would not flinch or turn away. And still, even now, in bliss with her in his arms, there was this part of him that wanted to tear it all down. Destroy everything that made him happy, in a wicked way of self-ordered punishment he had simply gotten used to all those years. All those years he had been locked away and pain was the only thing he remembered to feel, like an anchor keeping him just a hair-width from losing it all, his sanity, his will.
The part that was now, as he gently put Lise out of his arms to have space to turn, seeing that as a bad sign. The part that was now making his hands shake, that drummed a beat on his back with thin, sharp fingers, singing.
âShe wonât be afraid. Sheâs be grossed out.â.
âShe wonât be afraid. But she will be when you will lose it and hurt her.â
Patric looked into Liseâs eyes with worry, as he tried his best to turn the slowest he possibly could, to maybe ease her into all of this - but just like that, just as he had known all alone, the strength came back to him.
No, those eyes were not afraid. They were sparkling, anticipation maybe, curiosity maybe, but it was not fear. It was love - it was the warmth his mother and father had looked at him with, the smiling squint Misha and Varamadras had for him. The fire, hotter than his demon skin, hotter than the blood of all those she had slayed in her power, the fire that was burning for him, and him alone and that he felt in his chest when he looked at her, too.
Suddenly he couldnât turn fast enough. When fear had turned into nervosity, his skin had been painted red in waves, just as his blood pushed through his body heartbeat by heartbeat. His lifeâs liquid heated up, giving Patric a burning sensation pushing through his weakly veins hidden by hard demon muscle. He felt his body heat rise inside, too, like a heat stroke, when the body contained too much heat not letting go, until his spine expanded to make way for it. Patricâs knuckles popped as his bones grew larger, and his muscles spasmed in their efforts to keep up with his bodyâs works. When his eyes turned sharper, as if he had just put in tinted glasses, he knew that tit was only his horns left. The horns that were laughable by demon standards, but still, they would tear through his skin, so far from human. As if he was letting go of a headache he had held on for too long, Patric still released what was part of his body.
His clothes looked ridiculously small and tight against him, which Patric felt, not saw, and it made him blush madly, which he might feel, but Lise might not see against his red skin. Uncomfortable in the way he was sitting, Patric stretched himself subtly, then brushed against his horns. âWhen I was younger and my transitions have been more impulsive, I used to tear my skin with them.â, Patric said quietly, admitting to his childish foolery.
Looking at her with loving, although apologizing eyes, Patric touched her arm with his hand. Indeed, it felt so cool against his touch, where they had just shared the warmth of their combined body heat. âSee? Much warmer now... I- I only look like this when I sleep though, donât worry. And oh- please ignore the clothing, at home I have robes and - I look ridiculous!â
