not sure we've seen much of each other since that vanity fair shoot together and i'll be the first to say, it breaks my heart some. i believe we had a great time on set and i'd easily love to do something with you again - maybe work on a project together? also we need to catch up again, so what's new in your world right now, buddy? || @paulcolm

Mate, you're making me feel guilty here. I was thinking the exact same thing, we had such a laugh during that shoot, and it's funny how you can spend a few hours with someone and instantly feel like you've known them for ages, then months go by and life gets in the way. I'd absolutely be up for working together again though, so let's make that happen. I do think we'd work well together. I've been keeping busy, filming. Every time I can get some time for myself, I try to make the most of it! I actually have a bit of time to slow down coming up, which I'm really looking forward to. What about you? What's been keeping you busy lately?

i was thinking the other day about how every actor has that one role people bring up no matter what they've done since. it doesn't matter how many years go by or how many projects you take on, someone's always going to mention that character. i've started wondering if that's something you eventually make peace with or if it just keeps catching you off guard. @paulcolm

Oh, I do make peace with it. I reckon it just means something you were part of genuinely stuck with people. There are definitely worse things than having a character people still care about years later. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't surprise me sometimes, though. You move on, you grow, you make other films, and then someone stops you to tell you they watched Normal People for the fifth time and it ruined them all over again. I suppose stories have a longer life than we think when we're making them. Does it happen to you?

you know what still surprises me to this day? i grew up in spain, i did a lot of traveling growing up. though never actually made my way to ireland. i feel like that shouldn't be possible, but maybe i should fix that. if i do...any suggestions on where to go? @paulcolm

You absolutely should. I'm obviously a bit biased, but Ireland is one of if not the best country out there. If it's your first time, I'd split it between Dublin and the West Coast. Dublin's got great pubs, its people is amazing and there's a lot to see! Once you head west, to Galway, Connemara, or the cliffs, you'll understand why so many of us get sentimental about home. And just a fair warning, you never pack enough layers, even if the weather app is telling you it will be sunny… don't trust it.

I think what I'm struggling with is… I don't really know where we stand anymore? If I'm completely off the mark, tell me. But I feel like we've been dancing around something for a while now, I don't know what it is but the time we spent in Italy? I mean, I think we need to address the elephant in the room.

This is basically the life I wanted so I can't feel anything else but grateful that it finally happened. This is what I've been working so hard for so I'll take the exhaustion. That's mostly me just saying that now because I haven't been in the business for that long so I'm sure in a few years I won't be saying that anymore. They do feel really good. Just a good solid seven hours does wonders. It's just so amazing to be part of such a big project, I'm sure. And I don't think they could've done any better with the casting as I've seen the pictures floating around on the internet and you guys all look like them so much. It does sound nice that when you got a few days off that you don't fill them with other things. Just being a couch potato for an entire day sounds like heaven. Have to admit that I haven't had a day like that in a while. Whenever I get a break I'm whisked off to some event in another country or city. Good, because otherwise I might not take your advice anymore.

I honestly hope you never lose that feeling, even if the exhaustion sticks around. I think it's a really special place to be in when you can look at your life and think that's exactly what you've always dreamed of. Sure, the novelty changes over the years, but I reckon the gratitude stays. Thank you, mate! I'm glad you think so. We've also put so much care into it, plus I think everyone involved knows how important these people are to so many, so there was definitely a bit of pressure to get it right. I'm almost protective over those days off now. I used to think every free day had to be productive, but I've become a firm believer that sometimes your biggest achievement is making it from the bed to the sofa and staying there. I highly recommend it. Oh, it must be exciting getting invited all over the place, but don't forget to actually have a day that's only yours every now and then. Don't worry, I couldn't give you advice I wasn't at least attempting to follow myself. I'd never hear the end of it if I got caught out.

It was my fault, I take full ownership of it. Next time I decide someone who is practically my brother is right for a role I will read it through, or just flat out ask. We managed though, we're both professionals, even if we were fake gagging afterwards to make each other laugh. Think that is always going to be the thing, I'm the kid sister along with Maisie. Watch us grow up, do our thing, but he's always been such a big supporter of my career and speaks so highly of me how can I not love him and adore him, in a brotherly way. Sometimes think he might be more protective than my own brothers! Game of Thrones did a lot of damage to a lot of people. I still hear people say we don't talk about that which really, truly, I don't hear much talked about anymore! Oh, see there's a strong fandom within GOT that are huge Sansa and Jon shippers. Never understood it, sometimes egged it on when I did social media just to make Kit squirm a bit. Still, very confusing. Thankfully it felt very different than the show itself. Would have been amazing to have Cersei show up but too many of us in one place would have actually made it confusing.

That's too funny, now I can't help but imagine you and Richard Madden doing a romcom... stop that, the vision alone is sending me. I suppose it's normal, especially when you've shared that much of your life together, and such an important time as well, like that was quite a phase of your lives! Oh, Game of Thrones permanently rewired all of our brains. I did see the talks about the ending resurfacing, probably because of the rise of all these prequels. 'Cause no way we're getting a sequel post-GOT, right? After that fiasco of a finale, nobody wants to see whatever comes out of it, I think not even George RR Martin himself! But yet, I think time really does soften these things. Jon and Sansa shippers… feels like people just messing around because what do you mean you're shipping two people that grew up together? I have to admit I laughed at the thought of you deliberately winding Kit up over it, though. I know that's what sisters are supposed to do. Right, from everything I've seen of the film, it feels like its own thing, which is probably the biggest compliment you could ask for and might make us forget you once played relatives. A surprise Lena Headey cameo would've sent me over the edge. It would've confused absolutely everyone, but I would've loved every second of it.

I'm not telling you off... but I'll allow your conscience to keep doing the heavy lifting. I'll forgive you this time. I know you've been buried in work, and honestly, I couldn't be happier for you. Watching everything you've accomplished has been such a joy, even if it means I have to compete with your schedule for your attention every now and then. You missed the stairs? Oh, come on! That was one of my finest slapstick performances. I managed to fall down a flight of stairs while trying to look elegant. Very on-brand for me, actually. Thankfully, nothing serious happened except for my dignity, which suffered a catastrophic injury. Working with Meryl... it's hard to put into words. You spend years admiring someone from afar, building them up in your mind, and then you meet them and somehow they exceed every expectation. She's brilliant, generous, endlessly curious, and she has this incredible ability to make everyone around her better. She became such an important person in my life, especially during a time when I needed someone exactly like her. I'll always be grateful for that. And I absolutely refuse to believe you won't work with her someday. Ayo is such a fantastic choice. I can already imagine the two of you together—you'd be hilarious. And Brendan and Cillian? I completely understand. for me... after all these years, my list is surprisingly short now because I've been lucky enough to work with so many people I once dreamed about. But there are still a few names that make me curious. I'd love to work with Florence Pugh. I think she'd challenge me in all the right ways. Olivia Colman, because she's extraordinary and somehow makes everything look effortless. And Andrew Garfield. Mostly because I have a feeling we'd spend half the shoot laughing and forgetting we were supposed to be acting....Although, if I'm being completely honest, my favorite co-star has always been the one I couldn't quite get rid of.

See? I knew you'd end up forgiving me. I just had to look sufficiently guilty first. But thank you, Anne! I'm emotional now, so shhh. It's been a mad few years, but it feels really good knowing you're cheering me on from somewhere. See, I'm sorry if work occasionally steals me away. I promise I'll do my best not to let it win too often! I'm glad your dignity was the only casualty, although I have a feeling you somehow managed to make falling down a flight of stairs look more graceful than the rest of us manage walking. That's the only way you do things anyway, even when falling. Hearing you talk about Meryl is exactly why everyone adores her. The fact that someone you've admired for so long turned out to be even kinder and more generous than you imagined is really lovely. They say never meet your heroes, but I think we were lucky in that respect, you with Meryl and I with McCartney... they're every bit as wonderful as you'd hoped. Don't worry, I'm holding onto that 'yet'! I'd like to believe the universe has a Meryl and me project tucked away somewhere. I'd pay good money to watch you and Florence together, she's a good friend of mine and I can say she'll bring her best A-game to any set she works on. Olivia and Andrew, two gems! I've worked with Olivia before, and she's absolutely amazing, I think yours and her talent would rub off on each other and that'd be a joy to watch. Wait, who's this person? Is it Emily Blunt? Because I just love you two together.

I forgot about the Beatles film! I very excited for that. Paul seems like such a genuinely nice person, so I am very jealous that you got to meet him and work so closely with him. Well, I'm not too sure. I have some auditions that are coming up so we will see what happens with those.

I think people forget about it because it's not being talked about nearly enough, but we're hoping to leave everyone absolutely speechless once they finally get to see it. It's been such an incredible honour, getting to know him, hearing his stories firsthand, seeing how warm, funny and generous he is... kinda nuts to say it out loud. It's the sort of thing you never quite get used to. Good luck on that front, mate, fingers crossed for you! I'm still behind because I have to watch Happy Hours, that one's out, right? I'm really looking forward to seeing you and Katie share the screen again. I have a feeling the two of you are going to break a few hearts all over again.

It is like they are hanging on your every word, just waiting for your accent to slightly change in order to tease you about it. My brother is the worst for it. You say one thing, and it's all 'who even are you?' I feel it is a rite of passage for us. You better be the one to do it. Just one cold, lonely pint, waiting for you. It would be a shame for it to go to waste. Thank you. He treats well beyond anything I deserve and I just could not be happier. I will make it happen. His name is Jason, as in Sudiekis, so you can't bring any embarrassing stories. And you have to give me updates on your love life. Anything fun happening there?

He's so real for that. Donnacha is like that with me as well, he's a wind-up merchant, but he is no better at accents, so. I'll happily take one for the team and save that lonely pint from such a tragic fate. It'd be a public service, really. Jason… Sudeikis… it rings a bell. No embarrassing stories, and that's a promise… at least not on the first meeting. I'll let him settle in before I start revealing anything that might send him running for the hills. Ohhh, I'm afraid there's nothing nearly as exciting as your news. She'd to be the love of my life for me to say anything, or be who I think is the love of my life, anyway.

Tell me more, tell me more. I like to live inside the mind and dissect whenever an actor decides to go back to stage, it fascinates me. You've also just set yourself up with that one, pal. I mean, what's worse. Running out without pants on, or running out with the wrong prop. It's the beauty of the thrill. You don't fully know the capability of your skills until it happens. And the tiny bead of sweat falling from your forehead, hoping the audiences don't catch it. But it's so true. I always find there's such an evolution with each performance, and by the end of the run it's almost like that character still had a journey, even though the writing was the same every night. Is theatre where you started ? oh man, thankfully bruises and bloody shins is where it stopped at, but very, very close to several stage casualties. I tripped during a costume change once, and all you could hear from the wings was a bump and me saying ouch - limping back on as if nothing happened. Truly doing one's own stunts.

I think people assume going back to theatre is somehow taking a step backwards because it's "smaller", but to me it almost feels like going back to the purest version of acting. Ugh…I just love it. I don't think I'll ever make up my mind about which one's worse, both are scary as hell. There's definitely an evolution and it's one of my favourite things about theatre. It feels different somehow, even if you've lived this life for months, it almost feels like they've carried on growing alongside you. And yes! Theatre's where I started. As Jay Gatsby on The Great Gatsby, might I add, too! I don't think I'll ever lose that feeling of stepping out in front of a live audience for the first time each night. Oh my, I'm sorry, but I laughed at the image of you going "ouch" from the wings and then limping back on like nothing had happened. I swear actors deserve medals for the amount of times we've convinced people everything's perfectly under control when it's anything but.

exactly, and granted i'm getting used to it, still a lot. they really do only see the end result. i think that you are right? most people don't appreciate it unless they have to live through it. that is what they say! i am doing what i can to enjoy every moment i can and take it all in. i know the day will come when he doesn't want mama's cuddles and my heart will be smashed into pieces. my bad! so how about we talk about you? since i feel like you're just letting me ramble about motherhood and myself.

Yeah, but fair too 'cause parenthood is one of those things you don't really know how it is until you're doing it. Oh, no, the cuddles might get fewer and further between, but I reckon he'll always need one. School's one hell of a stage, you'll have time to worry about that one when he gets there! Life's been good, really. Work's keeping me busy, and as much as I keep saying I can't complain about it, I'm definitely looking forward to slowing down a little when I get the chance. I don't think I'm naturally very good at sitting still, but I'm working on it.
