Improvisation IX, 55″x40″, watercolor, crayon, and colored pencil on paper, 2015
These paintings become seeing machines, considering time, entropy, mutation, and construction. The series Improvisations pursues chance, risk, and reaction as the primary tools of abstract architecture. The hope is that the relics of this process reveal the beautiful and tragic as integral. That the unmanageable, illogical, and meaningless actions of painting become significant and transcendent. Connecting a few of the dots between all of those things that we don’t know that we know. Because hunting is not so much the heads we place on the wall.
