Do you know any good sources/books on the subject of shape language?

it's still a bit embarrassing to admit, but i've never really gotten my hands on any academic resourses. Everything learned from observing and hitting things with a rock ooga booga (that's why i'm very cautious in giving art advises)

i remember discovering BaM Animation channel first, with pro animators sharing tips and tricks. Love this video in particular, it's just a great cheat sheet

Harry Gold Show is my absolute fav too, i watched him mostly for improving artstyles imitation. Not exactly a tutorial material, but covers the basics.

My main research subject are still the shows which use shapes in their artstyle heavily, like Cartoon Saloon movies or classic CN shows. Character sheets and concepts used in production are full of cool referense material. One good man tossed me a whole site to explore.

Shape language is basically a feel of a character applied on a bunch of simple figures in its base. It's a fun game really, hope you'll enjoy the journey as much as i do

what app do u use to draw on ur phone? what brushes ?

i have a galaxy note 8 and i use the default S Note drawing app that came on it ! the brushes dont have names bc its a very simple program but i mostly use the first one and the square one. sometimes i use the pencil tool to color bc its on the softer side

What keeps you going? What sort of habits do you keep so you don't fall off the art wagon?

scribbling with paint/markers without sketching, like, just patterns and shapes that are pleasing. I'll fill out a whole sketchbook page, or several. write words and whatever comes to mind... maybe put stickers on it or glue stuff onto it...! it keeps the art-muscle engaged without tiring me out/forcing anything. Once it's dried, I sometimes draw stuff on top of it as well. i took some pics for you:

and of course, remind myself to draw indulgent/comforting stuff. sometimes i'll feel embarrassed, or like I've drawn something too many times. But I havta tell that voice that it's not helpful, it's just anxiety !!

sometimes i take a break as well. it's okay not to draw for a while, but of course if you feel like it's becoming non-helpful / fear-based, then giving yourself a nudge is nice !!
