Part 1 of a big photo post Eoin Macken made to his blog. I've included a screenshot of the entry as well. He says it's just from series 3 but in part 2 you'll see that there's also a few from series 4 and at least one from series 5. But I also appreciate that it was just meant to be a quick blog post. I've had to split this in two parts as you can post up to 30 pictures per post on Tumblr and there were just over 40 on the blog.

bbc merlin really is just a five-season long thesis of “love is not enough.” because it isn’t. love made uther slaughter thousands of magic users. love made merlin blind to anyone but arthur. love made arthur prone to betrayal after betrayal. love is not enough to save them. love dooms them. there was no happy ending for them, there is no believing love can fix everything, if merlin loved arthur hard enough that it will save him from his fate. love is the driving force of this series and it is detrimental and it hurts

Merlin fanart inspired by the 15th century devotional prayer book Les Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry with references to some of my favourite episodes in Season 1

Aside from the mortaeus flower and the intertwined red and blue leaves the background also features four symbolic floral illustrations:

Oak leaves for Arthur ~ symbolising royalty, strength, longevity, and stability

Forget-me-nots for Merlin ~ symbolising enduring love, loyalty, and remembrance

Rowan leaves for Morgana ~ symbolising magic, protection, and warding off evil

Violets for Guinevere ~ symbolising modesty, humility, and devotion

Currently investigating the process for having high quality prints made, let me know if you’d be interested and/or if I should do more medieval manuscripts inspired by Merlin :)
