Appearing at The Pavilion and in Ireland for the first time is Swedish house wunderkind HNNY. Probably the hottest producer of dance music to come out of Sweden since ABBA. His big from last year “For the Very First Time” will be stuck in your head from the moment you hear it! On the night you’ll hear an expertly mixed set of underground club music new and old, with fond memories of the old school and a steady gaze set on the future of dance music.
After celebrating a bit too hard for their birthday in December, the Floating Joints crew are back for the eighth instalment of what's become Cork's barely tolerated/dearly loved night of music and mischief on Thursday 13th February. The FJ residents, DJs Toby Kaar, Walking Fishbones, Cack Jollins and VJs Feel Good Lost will be joined by three special guests across two floors. One of the most exciting Irish electronic acts of recent years David Kitt’s electronic project, New Jackson, will headline upstairs, with Dublin's genre-defying/ignoring Meltybrains? on first. Downstairs we welcome Frankie Grimes, resident DJ at the highly successful Not Saying Boo clubnights in Dublin's Twisted Pepper to play alongside the usual suspects.
AIM is Andy Turner, a firm favourite in Cork over the years from his original releases on Manchester’s Grand Central Records through his remix work with Ian Brown, Lil Kim, Saint Etienne as well as working with guest vocalists Babybird, Souls of Mischief, QNC and Kate Rodgers on his own original productions. Primarily his roots were as a DJ from Barrow in Cumbria. Friday night will be a vinyl only night with Stevie G and guest vocals from Niko from AIM’s label Atik Records.
Cork’s reggae sound system Revelation Sound in conjunction with World Bass Culture brings another night of bass heavy music for your enjoyment. This time they are joined by Big Toe’s Hi-Fi
Big Toe’s Hifi was born out of Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland, back in 2003. Created by artist/ sculptor John Farrugia. Big Toe’s specialises in playing all styles of reggae. Centred around dancehall, they are pushers and purveyors of the good stuff - bass driven music. Joining them on the night is General Dotsi of Worries Outernational, and VJ Present on visuals. Pavilion favourites Feel Good Lost present an all day free event in the bar on Sunday of the Dirty Weekender. Sacred Animals  plays a rare intimate acoustic set, Sert One travels from Liverpool to DJ and play live, Barry Redsetta makes his Pav debut with visuals from Feel Good Lost. On Sunday afternoon Feel Good Lost are delighted to welcome iconic graphic designer Malcolm Garrett for a one to one chat with state.ie’s Simon Roche. Malcolm designed album and conceptual artwork for the likes of Kraftwerk, Magazine, Buzzcocks, Duran Duran, Simple Minds to name but a few. He will discuss his work in design and typography and his experiences in the music industry.
A revelation at this years Jazz Weekend Dublin Afrobeat Ensemble bring a mix of everything from original afro rhythms and tunes to covers of Fela Kuti and beyond!
do-nothing:
Swedish House producer offers something a little different here with a chilled out mix.
HNNY is a part of Dirty Weekender #4 Saturday 15th February. Tickets 8 euro.
Malcolm Garrett designed record sleeves and posters for The Buzzcocks, Duran Duran, Simple Minds, Culture Club. He was an early convert to exploring the opportunities and challenges of design with digital technology in London through the early 80s. He will be in The Pavilion on February 16th with Feel Good Lost.
