fun fact: This is because of Chroma key! Because the background was simply a solid color, they could key out the background and replace it with whatever they wanted. By using fancy video editing software, we can recreate this effect:
(obviously it's harder because this was a taped recording, so you have to deal with artifacts, but the idea is still there)
“Residents living in Erie County, tune to 640 kilocycles on your AM radio receiver. Those living in Niagara County, tune to 1240 kilocycles.”
The Ceefax/Sensible Soccer Project
I’m not sure if Tumblr is the main market to enjoy the mishmash of a 90′s British information system and a video game classic, but if anyone else is old enough to remember either Ceefax (Teletext) or Sensible Soccer i’m impressed.Â
The BBC’s Ceefax was basically the internet, before the internet existed. A text based information system for news, sport, weather and a plethora of other things that was accessed via analogue TV.Â
Sensible Soccer (1992) is one of the greatest football games ever created and I spent hours editing teams and playing matches against my friends. (You can read all about that saga here)
So for no particular reason whatsoever, I’ve incorporated the random Sensible Soccer custom team names from the classic Amiga/Mega Drive game with the Football scores page from Ceefax.
For me, this is the pinnacle of nostalgia.
