Baby I'm Mad, Chapter 8 (yes it's happening!)
As always, feel free to tell me what you think!!!!
Jokerâs anguished expression slowly crept into a smile. This was different than the other times he smiled; usually it was borderline demonic, and in response to her being in some sort of pain. This smile was relieved and excited and effortless. She couldnât help but stare at him, face blank and mouth slightly agape. âYou know just what to say,â he lulled in that dream-like smile, taking her hand in his. Even this small action was different- it was as if he was holding a flower in his hands, so careful not to crush it. He placed her hand on his chest, and began to lean forward. Penny tried to hide her anxiety over this simple gesture. He was going to kiss her- she had been in this situation numerous times. But this was the Joker⊠this was too strange. A few hours ago he had been torturing her, and now he was.. kissing her? Before she could finish her thought, his lips were on hers, taking control over the moment. She hesitated, her own lips stiff and her heart racing, before giving in. Although the hesitation was slight, Joker sensed it immediately. âPenny,â he muttered, his lips hovering centimeters over hers. âAre you afraid of me?â
âIâd be lying if I said I wasnât,â she whispered in defeat. He huffed and slumped back in his seat, watching the fire intently. For just a moment, it was as if Harley was back. But of fucking course that would be too easy. âMister J, I.. I just need some time,â she pitched, scooting closer to his end of the sofa. âI mean, you were just electrocuting me a few hours ago,â she said, a small giggle escaping as she realized just how insane this all was. The giggles erupted into a full on laugh. When had a guy ever tried to kiss her after electrocuting and force-tattooing her? Better yet, when had a guy ever done that in general? Joker began to laugh as well, pretending to be in on the joke. The two were left in some momentary limbo; Penny was not afraid, and Joker, well, wasnât torturing her. However, their moment began to fade and their roars died down, leaving the two in the same atmosphere they were in just a few minutes ago. âHey uh, Mister J?â She broke the silence. âDo you think I uh, do you think I might be able to get some different clothes? Iâve been wearing this for a long timeâŠâ she trailed off, playing with the hem of her nightgown.
âJust wear this tonight,â he sighed, unbuttoning his own shirt. Penny blinked, as she took this shirt in her hands, watching each muscle in his arms move as he slid the sleeves down them. His skin readily accepted the firelight, turning each highlight on his body golden and every crevice a mysterious shadow. âWell?â He barked, yanking Penny from her trance.
âThank you, Mister J,â she stumbled, quickly pulling the nightgown off over her head. It was Jokerâs turn to observe, this time, but she scurried behind the couch to be as out of view as she could be. He didnât care; he turned his head to watch every moment. He had seen her almost-naked many times by now, but the sight of her in his shirt was much more exciting to him. She fumbled with the buttons, giving him extra time to revel in the sight before him. The wine colored silk did wonders for her, livening her whole body- from her ashy hair, to her cool toned skin. There was just something about that fireplace. Something that made moments like this otherworldly. Something that made her otherworldly. The combination of his tattoo on her neck and her body in his shirt was enough to pull him out of his fit. He turned to sit on his knees and face her, and reached out to help with the buttons long before he knew what his hands were doing. She stood frozen, letting him do what he wanted. The kiss was her first mistake, and she didnât need another one. She needed to be willing to do whatever he wanted her to do if she wanted to get out of this alive. If she wanted to get out of here⊠she wanted to get out, right? Of course- this was the Clown Prince of Crime! But there was just⊠something, about him- even if she was afraid. Her head and heart battled as she watched his fingers slip over the buttons. His hands made quick work, and he was done before she wanted him to be. For a second, she wanted to take his hand, stop him from leaving. She could feel his disappointment, she knew he would leave in a huff of frustration, but part of her wanted him to stay. However, the sanity left in her brain left her frozen in place, watching him as he walked down the hallway.
âSleep in here, if you want. Iâll wake you up for another therapy session tomorrow,â Joker called.
Penny paced the living room, unsure what to do with this newfound freedom. Well, not true freedom, but she wasnât chained to a post. She poured herself another glass of wine and sat on the couch, looking at Gotham City through the fishbowl window. âMaybe this wouldnât be so bad,â she mused. She snorted, shaking her head. She was Jokerâs captive, his new obsession. He force-tattooed her, shot her multiple times, and was putting her through electroshock therapy. Wouldnât be so bad? She sighed, placing her wine glass on an end table. She knew there was a goon hiding in one of these shadows, he wouldnât just leave her alone.
âDoes Joker keep spirits here? Could I get a glass of whatever is the strongest?â She called into the darkness. At this point, her fucks were gone and she needed a drink. She was still half convinced she was going to die, so she would push her boundaries where she could. Surprisingly, she heard the pour, and a drink was in front of her in seconds.
Penny took a sip and then stretched out on the sofa. as she moved, her eye caught the bearskin rug, warm and enticing. He only said to sleep, âin here,â not specifically where⊠She slid off the couch, crawling over to the rug. It was just as soft as she imagined. She inhaled her new drink, in an attempt to numb herself to the situation. After this, she turned onto her stomach, her hands a pillow under her head. âThis was a really good decision,â she thought.
Joker tossed in his bed, trying to come up with a plan. He felt was so close to having her back. Sure, knew it took awhile to get Harley to fall for him, but she still fell relatively fast- without being tortured into it. He huffed, playing the moment over and over in his memory. As much as he wanted to let it go and sleep, he couldnât. One moment, he was kissing her and everything was perfect. The next, she was afraid of him. This girl was playing with his mind, and he wouldnât have it. Angry, now, he sat with a start. He knew he wouldnât be sleeping anytime soon. He began to brainstorm a plan of action; he had been letting this nonsense with Penny go on much too long. Immersion therapy was his next step. The combination of the electroshock and immersion therapy should be enough to shake her out of her funk. The electroshock therapy would alter her mind and make her more submissive, while the immersion therapy would start her back, wake her up. He knew how ridiculous and out of date his plan sounded, and if he hadnât seen it work on the woman from the asylum, he wouldnât even consider it. But the plan was now concrete. After every girl he had been through, he may have finally found his Harley. With the thought of this, his lips formed a smile before he could stop them. He swung his legs over the edge of the mattress, fully aware that he would not be getting much sleep that night. He paced his way through the hallway, startled slightly to find Penny at his feet, sleeping on the rug when he entered the living room. He had to laugh, as Harley loved that dumb thing.
âMista J!â Harley gasped. The pair were shopping for the new penthouse apartment.ïżŒ They had driven off to a little town in the middle of nowhere. Harley wanted to feel like a real housewife and pick out all of the furnishings herself. They could never get away with that in Gotham, however. Joker and Quinn? Out running errands, and not sending a goon to do so? They stood out in this small town, but thankfully Jokerâs name had enough reach that no one said a word for fear of being killed.
âWhat is it, Doll?â Joker asked, amused at her child-like excitement.
âLook at this!â She squealed, darting away. She sat down on a bearskin rug, running the fur through her fingers. âThisâll tie the whole room together! Don'tcha think?â She laid back, her arms waving across the rug as she felt the fur on her skin. She was in love. Joker didnât have the heart to tell her how God-awful and tacky he thought it was.
âAnything for you, my Queen,â he grinned. He dropped to his knees, crawling over to Harley in the middle of the rug.
âAnd you wanna know what else this rug will be perfect for?â Harley grinned, hooking Jokerâs collar on her index finger, pulling him into her.
âOh I think I have a few guesses,â he chuckled, biting at her lip. It was one of the easiest purchases he had ever made.
âGoodnight Harls,â he whispered, running a hand through Pennyâs hair.
Penny woke, taking a deep inhale through her nose. The penthouse smelled like⊠breakfast. Even monsters had to eat, she supposed. It always caught her off guard when she remembered that Joker was a human. Her eyes burned from the days of tears, and she ran a hand through her hair, sleepily making sense of her circumstances.
âGood morning, Penny,â Joker called from the kitchen, where he was looking at some note in front of him. A new henchman seemed to be on breakfast duty, which made sense. Why have henchmen if they arenât willing to do all the bitch work? Penny quickly came to her senses, stood, and sauntered her way over to Joker. No more rookie mistakes. She would listen to every word he said and carry out his every command, if she wanted to stay alive anyway. It didnât hurt that, as afraid as she was, there was a small part of her that was attracted to him; his flaws were beginning to portray themselves as assets. His obsession with Harley showed just how loyal and devoted he was. His constant mood swings? Well, he was spontaneous. Most wanted supervillain in Gotham City? That was his bad-boy charm. However, once she began to see the best in him, he always had to do something to snap her back to reality. Not to mention, he was a literal murderer and psychopath. The torture seemed to be truly affecting her memory.
âGood morning Mister J,â she replied, trying her best to sound a groggy kind of sexy. âWhatâre you reading?â She asked, resting her hands on his biceps and chin on his shoulder. As she did this, she tried to swipe a peek at the note.
âNone of your business, Penny,â he huffed, crumbling up the note. He had just received notice from the mob; someone had given a major tip about his next heist, and it was over before it began. Why couldnât he just have a little fun?
âOh well, sorry Mister J, âbout whatever it was,âshe sighed, cautiously taking a seat across from the clown. Their meals were served and they ate in an uncomfortable silence. Joker stared at her as she ate, and though she could feel it, she didnât dare look back. He noticed pieces of blood still matted in her hair and flecked over her face and neck. She probably could use a shower. She popped a strawberry in her mouth and finally locked eyes with the man across from her. âIs there something on my face?â She asked, swiping a hand over her chin. Joker laughed softly, walked over to her, and took a napkin to her cheek.
âI think you could stand for a shower today,â he chuckled as he attempted to wipe off the blood. Her face turned bright red from embarrassment. That hadnât even crossed her mind. She hadnât showered in days. And between her own blood, Alâs, and the sweat from the torture, she probably looked and smelled horrid. âIâll find you some clothes,â he offered, a goon stacking their now empty plates. She stood and he lead her to the bathroom.
Even for a bathroom, it was grand, and was big enough to house a bath and shower. The shower was covered in marble that trailed onto the floor, and every accent was done in gold. The motif of the room was a little different from the rest of the penthouse, while what she had seen was sleek and elegant, this was classic and regal. She stood in the doorway, jaw gaping and her eyes scanning every detail. She was startled as she heard the door shut behind her and the lock click from the outside. Just to test it out, she played with the handle in case. And by some miracle, it didnât lock. She didnât know where Joker was in his apartment, but she knew she was alone, and had a glimpse of escape.
âI wouldnât mess with that if I were you,â a voice barked from the other side of the door. Of course J put a man out there. She accepted defeat, slipped out of the shirt, and turned on the water. She didnât have the time to think about the cuts and bullet clips littering her body. Those were all infections waiting to happen. Although the tattoo and all of her burned in the water, she took this time to relax for the first time in what felt like forever. Just as she was stepping out, though, she heard the handle click. She shrieked and hid in the corner of the shower, slamming the glass door shut. Even if it made no difference, the barrier provided some comfort.
"Ever heard of knocking?â She exclaimed, huddled in the corner, her arms gripped around her knees as she formed a ball in the corner.
"Vaguely,â he bantered, setting the clothes out on the counter. She glanced at them before looking back at Joker, curious as to what he might have chosen for her. "As soon as youâre ready, weâll leave,â he stated before stepping out once again. She hit her head back against the wall, closing her eyes and only imaging what torture he had in store for today.

Baby, I'm Mad: Chapter 7
As always, please feel free to leave reviews!!! (constructive criticism, likes, dislikes, etc.) â€ïž
âFrost, get the door,â Joker growled, the form cradled in his arms. The henchman had been standing guard for the past few days at the building which contained Jokerâs torture chamber. Frost complied, opening the door to Jâs magnificent purple sports car. Joker laid the girl, half conscious, across the back seat, slumped against the window.
âWhatâd you do to her?â he asked, watching the girl struggle to stay upright.
âNone of your fucking business is what I did,â he growled. Frost recoiled, wondering where the frustration came from. âGet in,â Joker commanded.
Penny struggled to keep her eyes open, the hum of the car lulling her to sleep. She jerked back as the vehicle took off, sinking further into her seat. With each turn and bump she swayed with the car. The only thing on her mind was survival; do what he said, nothing more, and most certainly nothing less. âIâm not gonna kill ya, not if you behave,â Jokerâs voice echoed in her brain. âI should explain the rules, shouldnât I⊠Youâre gonna do everythinâ I tell ya toâŠâ She watched her captor through strained eyes, the light of the city- his city- making him glow, angelic. He looked deep in thought, his teeth clenched behind his pursed lips. âNo doubt coming up with more âgamesâ to play,â she thought, wincing. Even thinking made her head hurt now. She rested her head on the cool glass of the window, the sensation⊠heightened somehow. Some sort of temporary side effect, she figured. Everything seemed more intense- including the cold she felt as she realized she was still wearing Harleyâs short, barely-there nightgown. Her eyelids flickered, but she fought the urge to close them. She had a feeling Mister J wouldnât like that very much. To stay awake, she began to strategize. He wanted his Harley back, and if thatâs what would keep her alive, thatâs who she would be.
Joker slammed his head on the back of his seat. âThink, think!â his mind echoed. What was different between this girl and Harley? Why wouldnât⊠couldnâtâŠÂ she give her obedience to him the way Harley did? Did she need time? More therapy? He turned his head slowly, examining the half-naked form curled up in the back seat. She wasnât Harley. She obeyed, but while Harley was exuberant, spirited, Penny seemed broken, apathetic, dare he say lifeless. His eyes caught hers as he studied the girl. Even her eyes: they reminded him of some of the patients at Arkham.
Severe Acute Melancholia. Those who received that diagnosis rarely fought their treatment- which usually ended up being some of the most severe. He was âcell neighborsâ with one of these people- a woman with eyes just like Pennyâs, now that he thought about it. Eyes just as grey as her disposition. The asylum goons would take to her cell just before his, and he watched her every day as she shuffled her way to âtherapyâ, the large men following behind her after cuffing her hands. She was too dead to make a run for it, he guessed. Rumors swirled as to where they took her- it was in the opposite direction of most of the therapy blocks. The most prominent of these tales was that they were putting her through an⊠extreme version of immersion therapy. Under usual circumstances, immersion therapy was- in a sense- a long bath that could last from minutes to hours, potentially even days. But for this patient, at least according to hearsay, the treatment was far worse. Rumor had it that they would force her underwater, almost to the point of drowning, in order to âwake her upâ. An archaic method, but Arkham was no ordinary asylum. They specialized in torture and cruelty. This went on for months; she would shuffle past his cell to wherever she went, disappear for a relatively short stint of time, and the two would pass as he left electroshock therapy, her hair stringy and damp, her eyes sunken far back into her skull. One day, however, a few months before Harleen was assigned to him, she changed. She shuffled along the hall, hands cuffed in front of her, her skin still damp, and her wet hair piled on top of her head into a knot. The nurses were just about to remove Jokerâs straightjacket, his head aching from the events that had just occurred. His eyes met hers with sympathy, both having just left their scheduled torture. She returned his gaze with a smirk, the first real expression he had witnessed from her. In a flash, she whipped around, roundhouse kicking a row of three guards. Joker was shocked at her athleticism, but immediately realized he shouldnât have been. Most of Arkhamâs villains and their lackeys were sent here if they were arrested. She attempted to break the cuffs from her hands on one of the doorknobs- perhaps she was a bit crazier than he had imagined. He should have suspected as much since she was being housed in an asylum. This left her with nothing but bruised, bloody wrists, and she growled in frustration before repeatedly beating the cuffs against the knob. Alarms soon began to screech and echo off of the concrete floors and walls. The situation called for a lockdown. The woman looked up, alert. The cuffs were now the last of her problems. She sprinted from the hall, and turning the corner, was never seen by Joker again. He let out a maniacal laugh, partly from confusion, partly because the situation was truly amusing. He laughed even as he was thrown over a shoulder and tossed back into his cell. His cackle could still be heard by the guards, echoing through the wall. Maybe Penny could use the same âwaking upâ.
The car screeched to a halt at a magnificent tower, the outside almost gleaming in the lights on Gotham City. Penny could only blink in shock as Joker opened the car door for her, holding out a hand. She merely looked down at her apparel, then back up at him, her gaze doe-eyed and hesitant.
âTrust me, baby, no one cares except you.â She swallowed and allowed him to take her small hand in his, his pale grip cold and calloused. âGood girl,â he whispered in her ear as she stood, his face treacherously close to hers. She gave a shiver and took a shaky step onto the concrete. Not two steps in, she stumbled forward, landing in Jokerâs arms. âNot so fast, princess,â he chuckled. He slipped an arm around her waist, taking most of her weight onto him. They walked past the main entrance, which confused Penny. Was he taking her behind this building to kill her? Surely with all of his hideouts and chambers he wouldnât just kill her out in the street like any common thug. Once they made their way around to the back, a door was suddenly swung open by a doorman, who, by the looks of it, recognized just who was entering the building.
âOf course he has his own entrance,â she thought, relief taking her over. The door opened almost immediately to an elevator. The ride up was torturous for Penny. the lurching of the elevator rocking her brain and making her nauseous- noticeably uncomfortable.
âWeâre almost there,â he reassured her. His kindness made her even more afraid. What did he have planned for her? She gripped onto the handrails bolted to the elevator walls, shifting to create distance between them. She jumped as a bell âdingâ-ed, signaling the end of their ride to the top of the tower. The elevator opened up right to Jokerâs penthouse- a convenient set up, she had to admit. The apartment was nicer than she expected it to be; the walls were painted a pleasant, pale color, a leather couch placed in front of a fireplace and a large television, and a warm, bearskin rug draped along the floor just in front of the fireplace. She wasnât sure what she was expecting. She knew he was rich, but coming from the dingy basement she was just in, seeing the Joker in such an elegantly decorated home just seemed out of place.
âAre you coming? Or are we taking another elevator ride?â he teased, snapping her back into the moment. She watched as he made his way down a few stairs and into his home, slinging his jacket off carelessly and revealing a deep purple silk shirt. Not to be caught in her thoughts again, she quickly stepped out of the elevator, now able to take in more of the penthouse. There were two halls- one on each side of the living room- which peaked her curiosity. However, she knew better by now than to stick her nose into somewhere the Joker may not want her. The next thing that caught her attention were the beautiful windows that stretched floor to ceiling, making the apartment feel like a fishbowl perched on top of Gotham City. She found it slightly amusing that the biggest crime lord in Gotham had opened his home to anyone who would peer in. Apparently he knew just how powerful he was. âLike what you see, Doll?â Jokerâs voice called from behind her. She spun, knocking her off her balance slightly. His voice came from the kitchen, stylishly decorated in a brushed chrome motif.Â
âY-yes, Mister J,â she answered, her voice shaking still.Â
âWould you like a drink?â he asked while turning, grabbing two glasses from a dark oak cupboard. Where did this⊠human Joker come from all of the sudden? Offering drinks, being hospitable, for a moment she felt more like a guest than a captive. âIâll get you some wine, then,â he guessed, cracking a smile at her shock induced silence. âHave a seat, Iâll bring it to you.â Penny could hardly move, let alone answer him.
This was becoming rather fun for Joker, this playing house. It was especially amusing seeing Pennyâs reaction to it all. He eyed her as she slowly made her way to the couch, uneasy with fear and overall fatigue. The fireplace (which had been lit earlier, thanks to a henchman) cast deep oranges and yellows along her legs in an enticing dance, stretching from her ankles to her thighs. He focused hungrily as he made his way to her, a glass of wine in each hand. She took the stem of the glass delicately, her hands shaking. Joker took a seat next to her and slung his arm over the back of the couch, gazing into the fire. The pair sat in silence for a minute, Penny amusing the thought that the two could pass as a couple relaxing after a hard days work, rather than a psychopath and his prisoner. She stole a quick glance at the man next to her, the lighting making him look like a piece of art. The harsh chemical green of his hair was softened, still green but not blindingly so. His eyes were the perfect pallet for the flames, allowing them to keep their color as they reflected off of the pale blue. His now half-open shirt revealed more of his marble white skin, his tattoos providing contrast rather than ruining the picture. He was strangely beautiful, that was the best way to describe it. For a moment, she understood Harley, and how she fell for this wretched man. But that beautiful shell was home to nothing more than a psychotic monster, she knew. And if she had any chance of getting away from him, she needed to launch a plan.
âCould you tell me about Harley, Mister J?â
âHarley,â Joker breathed, taken aback by the question. He took minutes to respond, and Penny began to brace for more abuse, slowly pulling away. She couldnât tell if he was angry with her, or distressed by the thought. âShe was⊠everything.â He stared into the fire and rested his elbows on his knees, recalling another lifetime. âShe was so smart, not many people realized that⊠Analytical, yes. She liked to play herself off as a ditzy, bubbly blonde, but we both knew. She was passionate, beautiful, funny⊠I could keep listing traits but they canât do her justice. She was my queen, Penny. She was at my side every moment, at every heist. At the end of the day, on nights like this, we could laugh at this disgusting world together, and she understood why we were laughing. She wasnât afraid of me, she was made for me.â Penny could practically see his past life pass before his eyes, and the two were left in silence once again. His demeanor changed, suddenly, subtly. He slowly turned his head to face her, his cold, blue eyes drilling into hers. âCould you really be that for me, Penny?â She knew this wasnât just some proposal, he wanted to know if he was really wasting his time on another lost cause- someone who just couldnât provide what he needed. If she thought her life was over before this moment, boy, was she wrong. Staring into his eyes was like looking at Satan, and he had just asked her for her soul. If she said yes, she was his. Not just his captive, not just his plaything, but his. If she said no, well, she was a corpse, there was no other way of saying it. What option did she really have? Her heart pounded as adrenaline pushed through her body, her fight or flight kicking in. The epinephrine fueled her survival instincts, leading her to her decision. She took a breath and parted her trembling lips.
    âOf course, Mister J.â

Baby, Iâm Mad: Ch. 6
Pennyâs eyes fluttered open as an unnecessarily bright light turned on above her. She squinted, trying to make sense of this new situation. The Joker had been out for a few days, leaving her trapped in his chamber with not much to do except sleep. One of his men brought down a small meal every few hours, so she ate, but would doze off soon after. It wasnât as if she could explore the chamber anyways; Joker had tied her ankle to a support pillar to keep her in bounds. This time, when a hand roughly shook her shoulder to wake her, there was no food, and the man standing hovering at her head was not a henchman. He stood above her, the light casting a halo around his already chalk-white skin. Penny, afraid but mesmerized, couldnât pull her eyes away. He was beautiful in an odd way, terrifying in an obvious one. The Joker was back.
âHappy to have me back, beautiful?â Joker chuckled, catching her stare. She opened her mouth to answer. âDonât bother, I already know the answer.â Penny attempted to sit up, ready to protest, but was cut off by the straps- she just noticed- that bound her to a table. âAh, ah, ah,â he teased, âyou wonât get very far by doinâ that,â      âWhat, are you gonna give me another tattoo? Cause trust me, that wonât scare me anymoreâ She back talked, trying her damnedest to sound unafraid.
âMaybe later,â he answered with a shrug, completely ignoring her snide remark. âNow we get to play doctor,â
âW-what?!â Penny protested before slamming her mouth shut. This sounded like a particularly dangerous game.
âCome on Penny, youâre smart, don'tcha remember you rules?â She took in a sharp breath, closing her eyes and nodding. âGood girl,â he smirked, giving her cheek a light slap with each word.
âCan I at least know how the⊠the game goes?â She asked in a small voice. Calling such a dangerous activity a âgameâ was foreign to her.
âThey used to play it with me too,â he answered, his back to her as he prepared his âtoysâ. âYes, back at Arkham we played this all the time,â he mused as he shoved a rag between her teeth.
Electroconvulsive therapy was the medical term for it. Three times a week the big guys would burst into his cell, slip on the straight jacket, and escort him to a bright, white room. The first few times, oh he gave them hell. He fought tooth and nail as they slid on the straight jacket, and bit at the nurses when they tied his arms around him. He refused to stand up. When they attempted to carry him he writhed and squirmed, anything to slip from their arms. He always lost, and they always strapped him to the big chair. Two charged ends were pressed to his head, and he felt what burned like lightening pass through his skull. The pain was⊠indescribable. The only thing he had power to do was scream, and even then the men always gagged him. Always stuck a rag or belt in his mouth. Always tried to shut him up. What their goal was, he still didnât know, but he did know that it sure as fuck didnât work. He tried the same therapy on Harley when they met, before her true transformation in the chemical bath. Partly as a test, partly to give her what she wanted- to be with and like him. But maybe, part of it was also because he wanted revenge on all of those fucking doctors. All of the Arkham staff. In a small way, he got it, and with it he received the love of his life. That day was still so vivid in his memory. He remembered the thrill; her life was in his hands. She submitted herself to him. To him, this was the purest form of love she could give to him. He could almost see her again, her soft skin, cut by her binds, the beautiful fear behind her eyes. âOh no, Iâm not gonna kill ya,â he reassured her. âIâm just gonna hurtcha really, really bad.â And with that, the electricity was pressed to her skull, and Penny let out a terrible scream.
âSo youâre telling me Al got shot, and Joker has Penny?â Boss growled. âI lost my main girl, lost Al⊠Sam, what the fuck am I gonna do?â
âI-I donât know, Boss,â Sam stuttered. He honestly didnât know what to do. He had lost two of his best friends. The more the thought ran through his head, the more infuriated he became.
âIf either one of them told Joker who they were working for, we are fucked. We are so goddamn fucked!â Boss paced back and forth, wringing his hands and breathing heavily. Sam closed his eyes a moment, summoning the courage to say what needed to be said.
âI donât know what the fuck you were thinking though Boss! Penny fucking told you it was a suicide mission! And I canât fucking believe youâre more worried about your own ass than the two people who fucking died last night!â Sam knew mouthing back to the boss had been a treacherous play in the past, but he couldnât contain his anger any longer.
âDonât you dare fucking talk to me like that!â Boss howled back. In any other circumstance, Sam would have known to shut the fuck up. But Boss made a huge mistake, and the both of them knew it. A mistake that cost them two lives already, and potentially many more.
âThis is all your fault, and Iâm not going to let you forget that,â Sam screamed. âYou were selfish, you were stupid, you honestly thought we could outsmart the Joker in his own damn club? The Clown fucking Prince of Crime? Penny. Fucking. Told you that it was a bad idea. She knew she was walking to her death, why didnât you? We could have made the same money anywhere else. You got arrogant and wanted to play with shit that is way bigger than us.â
Boss stopped in his tracks. Unsure of how to respond. Sam was right, Penny was right. But he couldnât admit that. He and Sam locked eyes for a brief moment. Samâs eyes were welling with tears and fury. All Boss could manage was to stare back in defeat.
âFuck you Sam,â he muttered, before turning sharply and leaving the room. Sam could do nothing but just stand there, reliving that fateful moment over and over.
Sam was the first to see Alâs body. He was the one who was sent to pick up Pennyâs car, but what he found was worse than he could imagine. He got the call from Boss early that morning. Penny and Al hadnât come back yet.
âThey probably got a room for the night, you know how those kids are, eh?â Boss chuckled over the receiver. âAnyways, I need you to pick up her car. I donât know whatâs in there but I donât want it sitting around.âÂ
âGot it, Boss,â he answered. His heart was heavy, but he tried to play back the call in his head as he hung up. They probably got a hotel for the night. There was a fuck ton of sexual tension between them anyway, right? This became his mantra as he drove to the club, trying to push the sinking feeling from his chest. As he approached the building, however, he knew Boss was so, so wrong. The whole club was a crime scene, and at the center of it all was Pennyâs black Ferrari. âN-noâŠâ he muttered as he stepped out of the car. He ran towards the yellow tape, heart racing. A figure was sprawled over the hood of the car, brains dried to the windshield. There was barely a face to identify him by, but he didnât need a face to identify his best friend. âNo!â He screamed, practically throwing himself over the tape. Two officers stepped in, catching him before he crossed the yellow barrier.
âSir, sir I need you to back up,â an officer commanded. His voice was barely an echo in Samâs ear. âSir please.â The commands kept going as they set the shaking man on the curb. âDid you know him?â The cop asked, holding the boy by the shoulders. He could only nod; if he opened his mouth to say anything, he knew he would lose it. âCan you tell us anything about him? Did he have any long standing feuds with anyone?â
âAre you fucking kidding me?â Sam cried,
    âExcuse me?â
âThis happened right outside this club and you donât even have a clue who did this?!â
âDo you know how much shit goes down at this club, kid? Every villain and gangster in Gotham hangs out here.â Sam was disturbed by the copâs statement, but knew it was true. He turned away, still shocked and frustrated. But suddenly, in a brief moment of clarity, he forgot his other lost friend.
âWas he the only one at the scene? Was there a girl there too?â At this point, he was in a full panic.
âNo, just the male, uhâŠÂ Albert. Why?â
âShe went missing⊠last night. She was with Al.â
This had happened about a week ago. Alâs funeral was today, closed casket of course. The worst part about all this was he couldnât even go. The whole drug business meant he couldnât be associated with Al now, at least according to Boss. He was in full on paranoia now. They hardly ever went outside for fear of Jokerâs men coming after them. The two had spent the morning sharing a bottle of Jack, the best way to process their grief.
âSo what? You gonna go after Penny then? Cops arenât doing shit about it.â Sam grumbled, taking another shot from the bottle between them.
âPenny is fucking dead as far as weâre concerned. J is probably coming for our asses next. Iâm not gettinâ⊠any more of my people in this shit if I donât have to,â Boss slurred. Sam just closed his eyes and grimaced. He knew Boss was probably right, but if J really was coming after them, they were already dead. Nothing could save them. Maybe he could embark on his own suicide mission to find her and save her, if she wasnât already gone.
After she didnât know how long, the electricity finally turned off. Her back, once arched in pain, was again flat against the chair. Joker yanked the rag from her mouth. She gasped for air, as if the pain was water she had just been drowning in. She barely had a chance to recover before the clown was in her face again. âSo Penny, feel any different?! Feel alive?!â Joker asked, practically dancing around her.
âJust⊠just a lot of pain right now,â she winced through her teeth and tear stained cheeks. Jokerâs face dropped. Why hadnât this worked? It worked on Harley, what went wrong? What had he done to this girl, instead, if he hadnât gotten Harley out?
"Y-ya sure?â He asked, panicked. He grabbed her face in his hands, examining her for any change at all.
âIâm sure, Mister J,â she mumbled. Her brain felt like it had just been left in an oven. âC-can we take a break, though?â She asked, working up the courage to meet her tear-filled gaze with his cold, blue one. âP-Please Mister J.â The begging, the submission, it was back. Maybe it had worked, in a small way. It was fear, but fear could be the key to this⊠situation. The whole time he was expecting someone who was submissive in the way Harley was submissive, loving in the way she was, without any⊠persuasion, so to speak. Maybe, once he scared submission into her, his Harley would find her way out. But what else had he tried on Harley? How else could he pull her out of the girl in front of him?
âFine, doll, but weâre going right back at it in the morning tomorrow,â he sighed. He would need a night to think anyways.
âThank you, Mister J,â she cried. She jumped as she felt him undo the straps, his rings cold against her skin. He began at her ankles, making his way up, his hands lingering on her skin for just a bit too long. Once she was free, he held out a hand for her support as she stood; her legs were less supportive than cooked pasta. He sighed, rolling his eyes and scooping her up into his arms. He was taken aback as she curled against him, whether out of instinct or will, he could not tell. Nevertheless, in a spontaneous act of comfort, he brought his mouth to her ear, and mumbled,
     âLetâs go home,â
Quick apology
Sorry it took me so long to get part 5 out, I had a few major tests this past week and an awful case of writer's block. I hope you enjoy part 5 though! I think I have the direction I want figured out đ
Baby, I'm Mad: Chapter 5
The Clown Prince stepped out of the shadows, wearing just a black pair of pants. âAs beautiful as your blood is, I really donât want to stain my nice clothes,â he teased. Penny whimpered, subconsciously leaning backwards. âOh Penny, donât be scared, Iâm not gonna kill ya,â the villain grinned, pinching her face in his hand. âNot if you behave.â He released her head from his vice grip, pushing her further down. She stayed petrified on the floor, the side of her face smashed against the concrete. She studied him from the corner of her eye, watching as he paced around her and drew a knife from the sheath hanging from his bony hips. âI should explain the rules of the game, shouldnât I, Penny?â He twirled the blade between his fingers, studying it closely. âTheyâre simple, really, Iâm gonna keep ya here as long as I want to, youâre gonna do everythinâ I tell ya to, and Iâm gonna do whatever I want with ya. Yâget that, baby? Yâgot any questions?â
âWhat are you going to do to me?â She asked, her voice hoarse.
âPenny, Penny, Penny,â he chuckled, shaking his head slowly. âYâknow Iâm not gonna answer that one.â She nodded, her eyes closed. âNow, how should we start? Dress up? Yes⊠yes weâll start with that.â he muttered to himself. Penny clumsily pulled herself onto her knees, her brow furrowed in confusion. She sat back on her heels as she watched the mad man pace. âUndress for me Penny.â His captiveâs heart sunk and she stopped, terrified.
    âI-I canât,â she whispered.
âDidnât I tell ya the rules? Wasnât I clear?â Joker hissed, taking a handful of her hair.
âMy wrists,â she squeaked, showing him the raw skin trapped between the ties. The Joker paused, stunned, the potential energy of his mood swings filling the room with tension. Suddenly, he let out a roaring belly-laugh, terrifying his prisoner even more.
âWell then let me help you,â he chuckled still, kneeling so the pair was eye level. The green-haired man took her hand and balanced her as she stood, the action making her feel even more vulnerable. Joker moved himself behind her, his mouth much too close to her ear and his hand cupping her shoulder. The steel of his knife- which seemed to be his favorite âtoyâ- swiped through each strap of her dress easily. It then pricked between her shoulder blades, uncomfortably warm from being pressed against this crazy manâs body. She shook as she felt the knife drag itself along the back of her dress, all the way down and past her spine, finally stopping at the hem on her thighs. The dress turned into scrap material as it fell onto the floor. âNeed help with anything else?â He murmured, his hand trailing down to her waist. She shook her head, her eyes downcast and her heart racing. âPerfect,â he chuckled, pivoting around her in examination. He disappeared, leaving Penny by herself once again.
She stood in the middle of the room, too scared to even take a step- though she couldnât even if she wanted to. She stared at the dress on the floor, shivering from fear and exposure. Though she tried not to think about him, she couldnât help but wonder where he disappeared to. There was something strange about him. Of course he was terrifying- he was a psychopathic murderer, after all- but he was oddly⊠sensual, teasing her at every chance he had. Why, however, she couldnât answer. It was disturbing, and confusing. She thought as soon as she was captured by the Clown Prince, she would be dead. However, when she was thrown into the back of his car, she was relieved that she wasnât. But now, as she stood half-naked in whatever this torture chamber was, after seeing Alâs limp body, she somewhat wished that would have happened in the first place. She wondered if she even cared about survival at this point, or if she wanted to meet the same fate as her best friend.
The fear began to subside, and gave way to a nonchalance. Maybe she was coming to terms with her fate. Maybe she knew she was going to die. And just maybe, after losing one of the few people she loved, she felt ready. But some part of her, deep down, wanted to survive. The self preserving part that dragged mankind through evolution. Panic, compliance, or persistence, she wasnât sure what she was feeling anymore.
She scanned the room, trying to take her mind off of her fear, and the crazy man causing it. The room was rather large, the outer edges cloaked in shadows. The few working lightbulbs cast their beams on God-knows-what types of tools Joker had hidden in the dark. The smell of the room had finally wafted its way to her nose, its wet, moldy smell mixing with her own scent of sweat and dried blood. She jumped as she heard the man burst into the room, eyes filled with a child-like type of crazy.Â
âHoney, Iâm home!â her captor cackled as he reappeared with a small bundle of red silk bunched in his arms. Her eyes fixed on the material, anything she could do to avoid looking the man in the face. He paid no mind to this, and prowled towards her, a lion stalking his knowing prey. âAre ya ready?â he growled, leaning so his face was just inches from hers. Still, she couldnât force herself to look in the ice blue eyes in front of her. âCâmon Penny, I wanna play with you.â He grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. She felt his warm breath float itâs way onto her face, making her squirm. He caressed her face for a moment before ghosting his hand over her neck; how tempted he was to cut off that delicate airway. Her eyes slammed shut, bracing for impact. But when she opened them, he was at her feet, releasing her ankles from the ties with a flick of his knife. Suddenly, her wrists were wrapped in his hand and he was dangerously close once again. âAre you gonna be a good girl?â he inquired, his lips grazing her ear as he spoke. His body was damn near on hers, his flesh warm on her cold skin. She swallowed, taking a shaky breath as she nodded. âGood,â he drew out, his voice burning into her like whiskey. He flicked the knife again, freeing her wrists this time. Joker finally revealed what the red fabric was- a short, red nightgown dangled from his long, bony fingers. âGet dressed, pet.â He commanded. With shaking hands she reached for the gown, finally clutching it for herself. Dressing was a bit of a challenge, as she was shaking from fear and still wearing her shoes from the club. However, she managed to put it on in an amount of time that suited the Joker, as he seemed to revel in every second she took. He tangled his hands in her hair-pulling, yanking, and catching on dried blood every so often. The look in his eyes was different now, they were deranged and focused, but somewhere else completely. When he was finished, her hair was pulled into two sloppy pigtails. âYou make such a beautiful Harley,â he marveled, gripping her shoulders iron-tight. âBut weâre not done yet.â
âWhat?â the girl asked, still stunned from what had just happened
âHarleyâs mine, even if she doesnât want to admit it. I claimed her, Penny. And she canât take that back.â His voice slowly grew into a laugh as he spoke. âAnd Iâm gettinâ my Harley back- one way or another,â he growled. Her hand was trapped in his has he dragged her over to a corner of the room, practically dancing with joy. He pulled a string and another light flickered, revealing just how many tools he could hurt her with. He pushed her into a chair, cranking her neck to the side and strapping her head down along with her hands. The way her head was turned allowed her to see just what his plan was. A dirty tattoo machine sat next to her, and she could only imagine what he would imbed into her skin. âNow hold still, baby, I promise this is only gonna hurt a lot!â He cackled as the machine began to buzz.
âPlease, please donât do this,â She blurted, almost crying.
âShut up,â he spat, slapping a hand over her mouth. She began to cry as the needle touched her upper neck near her jawline. The more she cried into his hand, the harder he pressed.
âPlease stop,â she muffled into his hand, more sobbing than speaking at this point.
âItâs gonna look like SHIT if you donât stop cryin,â he snapped. She could feel his nails digging into her skin, followed by a slow trickle of warmth running down her face. He made no hesitation, despite her pleas, and the needle continued to vibrate against her skin. Her neck burned more as every second passed, and it felt like hours before he pulled the machine away.
âAll done! And I wonât even charge ya!â He teased, turning off the gun. Penny just laid in the chair, exhausted from fear and pain. She couldnât get up even if she wanted to. She had given up; she couldnât handle anything more. Everything was too much- the pain from the tattoo, all of the injuries she acquired, and her last memory of Al burned into her brain. She was truly defeated. She wouldnât even muster the energy to open her eyes and look at him. âAw, Penny,â the clown whined, âDonâtcha wanna see how it turned out?â he asked, eyes bulging and nostrils flaring; the psychopath was beginning to show. The restraints released one by one, and she felt herself being lifted from the seat by her shoulders, and he awkwardly half-carried her to a dusty, cracked mirror near the âtool benchâ. Somehow, he propped her up against him, concentrating on the two in the mirror with unblinking eyes. âBeautiful,â he breathed. And in all honesty, she wasnât sure if he was talking about his delusion of her or his handiwork. His name was scrawled in black ink, following her jawline high on her neck. His hand crept up to her neck, and he pressed a burning finger to the spot; this caused her to wince, but by now she knew better than to make any noise. Joker must have recognized this, as his mouth opened to reveal his distinct, silver grin. âYouâre going to be my Harlequin,â he declared with an unblinking smile. With that statement, he let go of her shoulders, and she collapsed into a pile on the ground.
Joker returned to examine the form on the floor, out cold as she had been for the past day. Fear can have that effect on people, in his many years of crime thatâs one lesson that had been repeated time and time again. He knelt down next to her, his features softening as he approached the unconscious girl. He was so excited about her a day ago, but she seemed to be turning out like all of the rest of his Harleys. She was a good girl, she listened just like his Harley had- his real Harley. But this one, this one was submissive out of fear, just like the others. They were all now corpses. His true harley was submissive out of pure obsession and loyalty. It wasnât the same; she just wasnât the same. In a daze-like manner, he slowly drew a knife, pressing it to her neck. This would be the kindest way he had ever rid himself of someone. After all, everyone wants to die in their sleep, right? The red liquid began to trickle out, and he pressed harder, hypnotized by the blood. However, he was snapped out of his trance as she began to sputter and cough, her eyes snapping wide open with pure terror. He withdrew the knife immediately, from surprise- and, just maybe, because he didnât want her to die awake and terrified. He watched her writhe on the floor; of course she was scared, but he wasnât. He had done this dozens of times, and he knew that cut wasnât deep enough to kill her, just to scare her. Just to scare her, like he had been doing already. Yes, this torture was fun, but when would she become the Harley he had been yearning for to return? His hostage began to calm herself, sitting up and taking deep breaths. Though she was afraid, he could sense a fire behind her eyes. Her anger was taking over now. She had figured he would try to kill her at some point, but slicing her throat in her sleep felt weak, and cowardly. Now, being truly faced with death, she wanted to survive out of spite. And if he was going to kill her, she wanted to make sure he had to look her in the eyes while doing it. Just like Al.
âSick of me already, Mister J?â she muttered, her fingers gingerly grazing the wound to assess the damage. Joker couldnât help but chuckle. Where did this bite come from? Was she no longer scared? He couldnât pick out if that was a good or bad thing, because at least when she was afraid, she listened. But in an odd way, he enjoyed this new attitude, even if it was just a momentary retaliation. He cocked his head to the side, eyes squinting slightly as he studied the girl. He could see his Harley in her, somewhere, and he was going to pull her out. He finally twisted his face into a smirk, his voice cold and calculating.
âNot, yet, Penny, I have so much more planned for you,â
So I saw a post with a nice little flow chart explaining how the Hogwarts and Ilvermorny houses interconnect, but it didnât connect all the houses, so, as the over-achiever that I am, I obviously had to make a full version. With color-coding,
Iâve seen this in a few different posts already so itâs not all that revolutionary, but the Hogwarts houses sort by personality traits - the brave, loyal, cunning, and wise. Ilvermorny houses sort more by your dominant function (what you do with your personality traits) - the adventurer, scholar, warrior, and healer. While some combinations will be more typical than others, every combination is possible.Â
I took all the dominant traits listed under each Hogwarts house and divided them up among the Ilvermorny houses. This is all subjective and some people may believe some of these categories should be switched, but I tried to take as few liberties as possible. Some just didnât want to work out nicely. For example, Ravenclaw split up perfectly. I didnât have to think much about how to match up the houses. Gryffindor, on the other hand, was a bit of a nightmare.Â
Take what you will from this, but I thought it might be helpful to people trying to make sense of a strange house combination or just to illustrate that the Ilvermorny houses are not renames of the Hogwarts houses.
Edit: Emotionally volatile = quick temper. Itâs a phrase I saw on multiple websites so I used it. Itâs not necessarily a bad thing. I think of Draco and probably Ron as emotionally volatile.

Baby, I'm Mad: Chapter 4
A/N: I realize this chapter is shorter, but I needed to give some backstory to Harley and Joker :)
After the pair rounded the corner, Penny dropped onto the concrete, unable to take another step. Alâs spattered remains flashed before her eyes with every blink; her best friendâs blood was spattered on her shoes and her legs. Jokerâs arm jerked back as she fell, stopping him dead in his tracks.
âWhat the fuck do you think you are doing, Penny?â he growled, not even turning around.    Â
âJust kill me,â she sobbed. He rolled his eyes, his nostrils flaring. She yelped as she was jerked onto her stomach with a yank of The Jokerâs arm.
âENOUGH WITH THE PITY PARTY!â he shouted, stomping on her arm. She cried out, her voice dancing with the police sirens in the distance. âGet up,â he growled, his voice laced with panic.
âI wonât. I canât. Shoot me,â
âAs tempting as that sounds, youâre not getting off that easy. Frost, grab her,â Joker ordered, striding towards the car. A large pair of arms lifted the fighting frame from the sidewalk and threw it over his shoulder. She finally went limp, giving up her feeble fight. The sirens came closer, giving Penny her last glimpse of hope. However, that door was literally shut on it as Frost threw her in the back seat of the purple sports car and slammed the door, sliding in next to her. She felt the barrel of a gun press against her side- a feeling becoming all too familiar.
Joker slammed his foot down on the gas, letting the tires squeal and burn into the pavement. He let out a cold, shrieking laugh as the car sped away and glanced to his right- the seat where his queen used to sit. The joy drained from his demeanor as he slammed his head against the back of his seat. âThat slut,â he growled through clenched teeth. His mind flooded with flashbacks of that night.
Harley Quinn stood in their living room, a suitcase sitting at her feet. She had been waiting all night for her Pudd- for Joker to return from his heist. However, she had decided long ago that this would be the last night she would stay up for him, waiting for him to come home. Her head shot up at the sound of the door slamming, signaling an angry Jokerâs return home.
âP-Puddinâ?â She called out, her voice meeker than she had hoped.
âNot tonight, Harley. I canât deal with you right now,â Joker growled, walking right past her.
âIâm leavinâ,â she blurted, nerves beginning to get the best of her.
âWhat?â Joker inquired, his voice laced with a chuckle.
    âT-Tonight. Iâm leavinâ,â
âYou know I like jokes, Harley, but this one is not funny,â
âIâm not jokinâ⊠Ivyâs cominâ by to pick me up any minute.â
âPoison Ivy?!â Joker was caught off guard, his eyes wide. She wasnât leaving him for a ânormalâ life; he figured if she ever did leave him, it would be for a life he couldnât give her. She was leaving him for another villain. She wasnât dissatisfied with his lifestyle, she was dissatisfied with⊠him.
âI love her, J,â she breathed, her eyes downcast.
âOh Harley⊠love her?â He mocked. In a flash, he was standing in front of her. âCome to bed baby,â he purred, his hand cupping her cheek.
âN-No, J! I know what youâre tryinâ to do!â She exploded, ripping Jokerâs hand from her face. âShe loves me too. Sheâs nice to me. She treats me right,â she spat.
âAnd now she bites!â Joker laughed.
âThis isnât a joke! You hurt me all the time, J! Iâm done!â
âAfter all Iâve done for you. After the life Iâve given you. I treated you like a queen. And this, this is how you repay me?â
âYou ruined my life, J!â She cried. âIâve spent so many years just waiting for you to love me as much as I love you⊠And itâs not gonna happen. I see that now. I gave up my entire life for you, and I got nothing in return.â A tear finally rolled down her cheek and onto the carpet, leaving a mascara stain on the fibers.
âIs that how you feel, Harley? Like I donât love you?â He asked, placing a hand on her waist. She nodded, trying to hold back the rest of the tears. âWell then I better remind you that you agreed to this lifestyle, cupcake. You signed up for it.â He stabbed a finger into her chest, the poke hitting like a punch. His ego took over. There was no way he could let Harley see him upset about her leaving.âGet the fuck out of my house,â he spat.
âPuddinâ I donât want to leave you like this-â
âWhat the hell did I just say? How the fuck did you think you should leave me?! Youâre lucky I am even letting you leave!â He bellowed, drawing his gun and shooting at the wall beside her. She shrieked, looking at the bullet hole inches from her head.
âI still love you, J,â she confessed. Their eyes met one last time before she walked out the door. She was surprised Joker even let her out alive. After all of the times he left her for dead, she found it ironic that this was the time he let her walk out.
âMister J!â Penny screamed, practically leaping over the front seat as she gripped the steering wheel. The motion jerked Frost to life, firing a shot into her leg. She screamed in shock and recoiled from the pain, barely steering the car away from the side of the building. Joker slammed on the brakes, now visibly angry. Penny realized she had made a mistake. Whether or not it was his plan to drive into that building, she had overstepped her bounds. âIâm so sorry, Mister J,â she whispered, her breathing heavy and her eyes wide. âI-It was just a reflex. I didnât mean to.â
âYou should know by now what happens when you act up, Penny. And as much as I love your begging, itâs beginning to get on my nerves.ââ he sneered, eyes glued to the windshield. âFrost, I think itâs past her bedtime,â he suggested. Penny began to panic. Was this when he would kill her? Before she could make any connections, Penny felt a pound on her head and the world went black.
When Penny woke, she was in a dimly lit room. She blinked slowly, the small amount of light aggravating her headache. As she sat up, she winced, biting down on the gag in her mouth; the bullet from the last shot was still embedded in her leg. As she shifted onto her hip, she located another pain. Her wrists and ankles were bound with zip ties, the pressure of which slowly cut into her skin. She was still in her dress, her hair and skin matted with chunks of dried blood. a familiar, cold voice sounded from the shadows.
âIâm so glad youâre awake, Penny. Ready to play?â
