I didn't enjoy Dishonored 2 as much as the first Dishonored. It makes me feel a bit bad syaing that considering that by technical standards D2 should be the better game and it's not like it's mechanically inferior, but I didn't personally like that your movements have more weight and feels more realistic. I loved the more nimble and and weightless feeling Corvo had in D1 and I miss being able to spam the crouch button lol. Also for some reason, the camera has this awful acceleration effect applied when you use a controller. Had to get rid of it using a mod but it shouldn't have been there in the first place. People complained about Delilah being reused but I kinda don't care lol. The story isn't really my main priority when playing these games; the plot's mostly serviceable. I'd say the levels of D2 are the main reason I didn't like it as much.
We all have our personal preferences when it comes to levels we enjoy and I think the maps are just too big for me in D2, they're overwhelming. I get lost very frequently. I don't want to make it sound like I'm shitting on the level designers, I'm sure they worked hard but it ain't for me. I'm not an expert in level design, so maybe I don't have the right to say anything but I once heard the the best kind of levels are the ones that feel open even when they are actually linear or small. D1's levels are actually kinda small, but they feel open and large due to how dense it is, right? There are multiple pathways, you can explore the different ways to approach a target and there are a couple of side missions all on a smaller scale. I kinda liked the smaller scale cause it made the maps easier to read. It gives a more focused and controlled experience. I just recently went through Coldridge prison in the DLC and thoroughly enjoyed the verticality. I imagined if it was reimagined in D2 it would be on a larger scale and I would probably get overwhelmed. The Clockwork Mansion is visually and technically impressive but something about it doesn't feel fun to go through.
Now I'm not overly familiar with what the community consensus on Death of the Outsider is generally, but the levels feel a lot closer to what the first Dishonored's levels felt like due to the reduced scale and is why I liked it a lot. It feels like it's Dishonored 1 again but with the skin and controls of 2. I think this is just a case of less is more honestly.
