The agreement only left him more stunned. It was really……He slowly shook his head. “……There are some things that time can’t change,” he answered in awe at the sight of the other. He didn’t know if it felt like ages…or like no time at all had passed since he’d last seen the boy…or rather, young man. Reality was crashing over him like a wave. The only reason he’d stuck around in one place for so long…was because of Pax. He had never been able to bring himself to leave the boy……and even after the other had stopped coming around…something had still kept him rooted here. Up until this moment.

Slowly, Abel reached out and gingerly caught the other’s chin between his fingers, easing the young man’s face upward to look at him so he could meet those eyes. They were what had truly given Pax away. Some of the other’s more youthful features had grown in more, becoming more defined. The boy had always been absolutely adorable…but now, he’d become such a handsome young man. 

The immortal couldn’t seem to control it…suddenly wrapping his arms around Pax and pulling him close, hugging the young man to his chest and stroking his hair, swallowing as he felt his eyes welling with tears. He’d never forgotten the other…nor had he ever truly given up hope that his precious friend would return to him one day.

   HE SHOULD’VE BEEN surprised, honestly.. perhaps a gasp, or freezing from touch, but there was neither. looking up at him with wide, curious eyes as he grabbed his chin, he quickly wrapped arms around the other in return, who he was still shorter than, burying his face into his chest, ❝ hi.. ❞ he said quietly and muffled. he squeezed him a bit, ❝ i missed you, abel.. ❞ he said, as a few quiet moments passed. ❝ um.. i hate to ruin the moment but... ❞ he leaned back and looked up at him again.

❝ can i stay with you, just for a little while ? ❞

“Were you held captive?” There was some concern in their tone. Basileus never made anyone in their unit stay if they hadn’t wanted to stay. The fact that this man was an experiment made things different. Hell, they didn’t even know what this man could shift into. “I was exiled for a time from my unit. Newfound freedom can be as frightening as it is exhilarating, so I suppose I can relate a little…Are you doing all right? With your freedom? Or do you feel a little lost?” 

   ❝ NOW THAT YOU put it that way.. maybe i guess a little, but.. i was young so.. i didn’t have a choice. biologically he was.. ❞ he took a deep breath, ❝ it um.. he was my father so. ❞ he shrugged, ❝ he had legal rights to me. ❞ he said, gesturing a little. ❝ but i uh.. i guess i’m doing alright. i have a good job, i guess. pays well, but i don’t work all the time.. kind of a seasonal gig. ❞ he said, ❝ but sometimes i guess i feel lost. i don’t really have a home. ❞ he sold his house. why was he being so honest and open with them ...?

Why would I want to hurt you with that end goal in mind? I’m a recorder, not a murderer.” Well, they were a murderer, but that was in the past. 

   PAX JUST SHOOK his head, ❝ there probably isn’t anything y-you can do, honestly. ❞ he said, hands shoving into his pockets. ❝ i’ve always been overly cautious my whole life. i was trained not to trust anyone but-.. ❞ he cleared his throat, ❝ but my creator.. ❞ he said quietly, eyes down ❝ for a long time.. so this-.. this freedom is new. ❞ especially now that he’d gotten his adulthood back.
