Grillby Bunsen Jr was the son of a farmer couple in what would today be known as central New York state. Together his parents owned a company that would clear new farmland of forest and brush using their fire magics. For the first 100 years of his life, this was all Grillby knew. He did not go to school, nor did he learn anything but basic reading and writing. It wasn’t needed; what was needed was excellence in temperature control and fire magics since that was the family business.
When the war finally reached them, Grillby was 130 and madly in love with a Fire Elemental named Mara. Mara was a atomic bombshell, smart, stubborn, sassy. Grillby was completely blind sided and in love. He would do anything for her, anything to keep her safe. But the war would not leave them alone. Grillby’s village was forced to migrate to one of the secret camps went sentries spotted human scouts only about 15 miles away from the village. Grillby’s father stayed in the village to raze it to the ground with fire so the humans would gain nothing once they crossed through. Grillby’s father returned injured, but alive. It was then that Mara showed him that fire could not only destroy, but could heal.
Originally Grillby thought he would wait out the war in the camp, but as he and Mara stabilized more and more monsters coming in wounded from battles or raids. He knew he couldn’t just sit on his hands. He knew both the destructive and healing properties of fire. He would use them. His parents refused to let him leave, Mara threatened to leave him if he stepped through the threshold, but he needed to protect them. He couldn’t sit idley by with the knowledge he now had.
Grillby enlisted into the Monster Army ranks and began training as a combat medic. Something they were in desperate need of. He wasn’t in basic training for long. He knew how to work a machete so he was given a sword. They were close enough in use of slam the sharp end into the enemy… except the enemy was now made out of flesh instead of wood, but he made friends during it. A lot of friends that were more ready for this than he was. They introduced him to fuel which was invigorating and other drinks that he never really thought of. He was happy to still have a few of his friends from basic training when he joined the 23rd Battalion as one of there 5 field medics. He was the only non-healing magic user; however. All of his fellow medics could regenerate flesh and bone.. He could only burn them shut so a real medic could get to them. He became known as a stabilizer. If someone could still fight but what bleeding, he would stop that bleeding so they could continue fighting. It was a hard slap of a branding hand that kept the hardened warriors going.. and kept him in the fray.
Grillby watched the majority of the 23rd battalion die and then become flush with new recruits and then he watched them die. Yet somehow the farm boy turned harden soldier. He started training others with fire magic to become stabilizers. It wasn’t there job to heal them. It was their job to stabilize those who needed evac and get those who could still fight up again. He served for 10 years in the 23rd battalion, which became known as Deathless, for when he became the captain he only allowed those with fire magic in it’s ranks. All of them were stabilizers and could burn their own wounds shut or other’s shut while roasting the enemy. For a full year, not a single monster died in the 23rd battalion.
Until he left for the King’s Guard… He he word that after 3 months of service in the king’s guard the 23rd battalion had been sent on a suicide mission. Everyone died.
Grillby briefly took a leave of absence during the war, he needed to check up on his family. During this trip he found out his father had fizzled out from the stress of the war shortly after he had left and Mara has set out to another camp by herself in the middle of the night. Only Grillby’s mother remained. He stayed only a few days, being a bit hailed a hero by the people of his village, at least the few that remained, and just looking for a break from the blood-shed. He had felt his LV increase over the years as he still had to desire to kill, but knew certain death were necessary and able to issue his men to care for those who could be saved and abandon those who couldn’t. After three days, Mara returned with a map of every monster camp and thrust it into Grillby hands, “You left because you wanted to protect everybody now do it!” … She was followed back my human scouts looking for the map she had created. Using gasoline gas and his aging mother’s unstable condition, the camp was ravaged by magical fire. Grillby and Mara, immune to these properties, tried to save as many as they could… but failed. Wounds were too great and needed proper healers, they were stabilizers. Grillby and Mara parted ways, mourning their losses very very differently.

He had been devastated at the feeling of betrayal that Asgore had given him. He had looked up to the man for centuries.. served under him.. tried to be more like him as a father and a man.. if Asgore could maintain who he was after the war, so could he… but now..“Asgore… lemme in..”Grillby through his drunken body against the door. His 5 liter gas canister with matching straw also banged against the door.“Lemme…”The fire elemental fell asleep in front of the King’s entrance.
