BANGLADESH. Dhaka. 1999. Sadarghat is the central section of old Dhaka. Many workers commute from across the Buriganga River, landing here and then going on to their offices. A scene is thus created each morning and evening where hundreds of small boats vie for space on the river. Because ferry boats coming from longer distances also berth along this same area, often blocking my view, I was continually nervous looking through the camera lens for good shots. The people were obviously used to their commute, thought, and many stood calmly in the rocking boats. © Hiroji Kubota/Magnum Photos
