JOAQUIN SHOOK HIS head as he went into one of the drawers to take out some cutlery. “ you could never make me uncomfortable, jayne. “, he reassured her, bumping his shoulder against hers in a playful manner before pulling her into the sideways hug. when she said he used to be the only person that didn’t creep her out back when they were both working on the same project, joaquin couldn’t help but smile and take odd pleasure in that. “ those were the good days, right ? the jungle. just you and me. “, the man spoke, fondly thinking back at one of his favorite projects he’s worked on so far. partly thanks to the lovely company of jayne porter.
after walking over to the dinner table to place the plates and cutlery on it, joaquin returned to join jayne in the kitchen, looking over her shoulder as she unwrapped the tiramisu. “ ugh – i absolutely love your tiramisu jayne. you know that is the way to my heart. “, he spoke, smiling before placing a sweet kiss on the back of her head before taking some wine glasses. “ red. “, joaquin answered her question as he placed the glasses on the table. turning around to face her, joaquin crossed his arms in front of his chest and smiled. “ busy. but i cannot complain. how was yours ? aside from baking that delicious looking tiramisu. “.
“Red it is.” She pulled one from his cooler, standing back up to look at him, her smile bright and wide as she felt him kiss the back of her head. The feeling of nostalgia filling her heart. She missed the jungle when the only thing to worry about was the animals and staying cool in the heat of the day. When the life was simple and not filled with the mundane activities of life in the city. Jayne had grown up being spoiled by the escape so easily available. “I miss that place...” She spoke softly, walking to find his bottle opener. After spotting it, she began opening it, “ Glad it’s still in the same spot. Be a damn shame if it moved.” Jayne laughed, nodding along to listen to his day. “Busy is sometimes better than not.” She smiled, popping the cork and setting the bottle down on his table, turning back to grab the food to set it down as well.
“Oh, you know. Living the dream, if the dream was working all the time. ” She started, opening up the containers before sitting down, a gentle sigh before she started with her day, not intending on unloading on him.. “It’s pretty standard. We had a pretty huge and of semester exam, and I cannot tell you how worried about that I was. Veterinary school was no where near this daunting. Though it could be being thirty-three in college. Not to mention one of my other doctors called out so I had to go in to do an emergency procedure and...” She sighed. “I’m honestly just happy to be done with today. I wish I could just go back to waking up next to a water fall and not worry about all of this. When I’m done with school, I’m running away to start a sanctuary. I swear, Jaqui. Sorry for rambling, it’s been a day.” She laughed, shaking her head as she looked up at him. Her next words were ones he’d heard probably a million times over the course of their friendship, but words she would never stop saying as long as he was the most interesting person she knew. “Please tell me one of your stories, I don’t think we’ve had enough time to sit at dinner and have a good night like this in a while. I didn’t think life would be this hectic.” The brunette woman shook her head, a look of happiness and sadness flashing briefly before her signature smile returned.
