Real Art
What constitutes as real art? Originality? The ability to replicate it? Is it only considered art if it is transformative? Transformative to the artist or the perceiver? Is the process considered art or the end result? If someone remakes a piece of art is that considered real art? Is art you create YOUR art or are you merely a tool that creates based on your environment and experiences? What makes Eminem a better artist than Vanilla Ice? Who is more artistic: The Simpson's or Shakespeare's work? and why? If art addresses an issue in society is it less artistic or more artistic? Are tattoos considered art or the process of tattooing considered art? Is designing, the designs on the shirt, or wearing a specific shirt design considered art? Something to think about.
Nutshell
This will certainly be the most boring post you will ever read on my blog. Unfortunately, I need to start somewhere and I figured this was the best way to do it. My name is Alexander Leonard Peck. I’m 20 years old, born and raised in Edina, Minnesota, a first ring suburb to Minneapolis. I currently attend St. John’s University in Minnesota, about an hour and a half out of the cities, majoring in Business Management and Communications. I am fortunate enough to be the son of an adventurous airline pilot, therefor I spent a majority of my childhood traveling the world and experiencing an inordinate amount of cultures.
I have been competing in sports my whole life, but wrestling is the sport that stuck with me. After finding childhood and high school success, I decided to continue my career into my college years. After cracking the starting lineup last season, I plan on being the starting 133-pounder this upcoming season. My Dad also introduced me to mountain climbing midway through my high school years and we have been climbing together ever since. These climbs include Byron Peak in Alaska as well as the most prominent peak in the continental US, Mt. Rainier. With each climb, I develop my skill set and confidence. Next summer we plan on climbing the high elevation volcano Cotopaxi located in Quito, Ecuador. Two summers from now we plan on tackling Mt. McKinley, which is not only the highest peak in the entire United States, but also one of the world’s most sought after climbs. I’m equally excited and terrified.
I have always been fascinated with uniqueness and customization, which is probably why I’ve dreamed of starting my own clothing line for years. This summer it became a reality when I co-founded a clothing company called Build Bridges Apparel. After a short period of time, my partner and I went our separate ways. Last month I started my own company, which I currently own and operate, called Peace Action Apparel (http://www.peaceactionapparel.bigcartel.com). If you haven’t already, check out my mission statement on my website! This is a little bit about me in a nutshell.
