cause when you’re fifteen and your daddy tells you to get a boating license, you gotta listen to him
evermore, Taylor Swift
This album really has me saying “there’s a lot to unpack here” like I’m some kind of English teacher
me at the end of every song:
is there anything more upsetting than getting new insights into 2016-18 every album cycle with each retelling of the story becoming progressively darker
evermore by taylor swift (released december 11, 2020)
To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.
taylor swift evermore pt. II
he built a fire just to keep me warm —> something wrapped all over my past mistakes in barbed wire, chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons —> where’s the man who threw blankets over my barbed wire
Long Story Short:
I tried to pick my battles 'til the battle picked me
Misery
Like the war of words I shouted in my sleep
And you passed right by
I was in the alley, surrounded on all sides
The knife cuts both ways
(Parallels to Delicate!!!
My castle crumbled overnight/I brought a knife to a gunfight/They took the crown but it's alright/All the liars are calling me one/nobody’s heard from me for months)
LSS:
And I fell from the pedestal (rep era!!)
Right down the rabbit hole (wonderland parallels!)
Long story short, it was a bad time
Pushed from the precipice (kimye)
Clung to the nearest lips (Tom Hiddleston!)
Long story short, it was the wrong guy
Actually
I always felt I must look better in the rear view (getaway car!)
Missing me
At the golden gates they once held the keys to (LWYMMD! I don't like your kingdom keys/they once belonged to me/You ask me for a place to sleep/Locked me out and threw a feast)
When I dropped my sword (referencing long live/ when her reputation tanked)
I threw it in the bushes and knocked on your door (stopped caring about everyone’s opinion and let her guard down)
And we live in peace
But if someone comes at us, this time, I'm ready (bc I could never give you peace)
No more keepin' score ( So it goes: You did a number on me/ but honestly baby, who's counting?/I did a number on you/But, honestly, baby, who's counting)
Now I just keep you warm
And my waves meet your shore
Ever and evermore
(Calls back to peace! But I'm a fire and I'll keep your brittle heart warm/If your cascade ocean wave blues come) (*also calls back to CIWYW He built a fire just to keep me warm*)
“I hope she’ll be a beautiful fool” - Taylor Swift, Happiness.
“I hope she’ll be a fool—that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” - Daisy, the Great Gatsby.
this new bio is so powerful
oh to be a witch performing some ritual around a fire in a forest in the middle of the night and be joined by taylor swift
Taylor finally contributing to the “murdering my husband” side of country music
never in a million years did i expect the plot twist of taylor writing not one but five songs with joe this year and on top of that he came up with these choruses and melodies randomly because he is just as weird as she is and on top of that he played the piano for one of them on the studio version …… i -
