Xavier enters their apartment door from class and walks to the couch, pressing a kiss to Andromeda’s temple while she reads a book.
Xavier (his tone is soft and loving) “There’s my beautiful girl”
Andromeda (leans back and smiles) “Stressful day I assume, preparing for tomorrow hm?”
Xavier (sits on the arm of the chair and leans to see what book she’s reading, running his fingers through her hair) “a little performance anxiety is all, everyone’s been talking about it all week”
Andromeda (hums and sets her book down, looking up at him with a grin) “well I know you’ll be amazing, I cant wait to see everyone gawking at you”
Xavier (chuckles and shakes his head, teasing her) “you just love showing off”
Andromeda (shrugs innocently and brushes his curls from his face) “I have no idea what you’re talking about, I am incredibly humble”
Xavier (snorts and tilts her chin up) “you my dear, are anything but humble”
Andromeda (pokes her tongue out and laughs to herself) “only when it comes to you, my dove.”
Xavier (smiles and looks at her with a softened gaze, his thumb brushing over her cheek, admiring how her freckles glow under his touch) “you’re so beautiful firefly…”
Andromeda (her cheeks flush and she leans into his touch) “you always say that”
Xavier (cups her cheeks and admires the way her ears pin back like a kitten preening at his affection) “because it’s true, firefly.” (He leans down and pecks the time of her nose with a cheeky grin)
Andromeda (huffs softly and glances off before pulling him down onto the couch so she can smother him in affection) “enough of that, come here”
Xavier (chuckled and allows himself to be pulled into her embrace, holding her head against his chest) “you know you don’t have to hide your horns and tail with me sweetheart”
Andromeda (grumbles and reluctantly reveals them, she knew she couldn’t hid anything from him) “you just like teasing when my tail sways”
Xavier (smirks and runs his hand over her back) “of course not, I like your horns too”
Andromeda (rolls her eyes and gives him a knowing look) “ah yes, I remember how much you love having something to hold onto when-”
Xavier (covers her mouth and blushes) “okay okay I get it, just…I don’t want you to feel like you need to hide anything with me, those other things are just added bonuses, now let’s just enjoy a moments peace…okay?”
Andromeda (her expression softens and she nods, laying her head on his chest and letting out a breath) “okay”
Xavier (strokes her back and watches as she listens to the sound of his heart beat, thoughts bubbling in his mind)
Andromeda (picks up in the shift in his emotions and tilts her head to face him, her chin resting on his chest) “somethings on your mind”
Xavier (let out a sigh and gives a wry smile, knowing he can’t hide anything from her) “I can’t promise forever…”
Andromeda (his words make her pause for a moment, this was something that they had avoided taking about, time, she pursed her lips and sits up in his lap, her hair falling over her face) “I know…I…I know but I’d rather have had you for a day than gone my eternity without having cherished you”
Xavier (looks up at her and brushes her hair behind her ear, a soft frown pulling at his lips, his voice a gentle whisper) “you’d really settle for that firefly? You’d accept the pain that’s bound to arrive…?”
Andromeda (puts her hand over his and speaks with raw honesty, putting her love for him into the open) “I’ll spend my lifetime loving you Xavier…before I met you I didn’t understand why humans could love so recklessly, knowing what finite time they had…then I met you and it made sense…that pain is proof of existence, it’s a pain I’m willing to endure, one I want to endure to be able to love you.”
Xavier (his eyes water as he looks up at her, his core aches at the thought of her carrying such a burden alone for such a long time, he tries to lighten the mood with a chuckle) “you really know how to get me emotional huh?”
Andromeda (her heart tightens at the sight of his tearful eyes, the sight is near unbearable to her, she brushed her thumbs over his eyelids, wiping his tears away) “please don’t cry…I don’t think my heart could take it”
Xavier (leans into her touch and lets out a shaky breath) “I’m sorry firefly…it’s just not fair, this differences between us, it’s not fair that one day I’ll-“
Andromeda (silenced him with a finger and shakes her head, unable to hear him finish the sentence) “I know…I know I’ll wake up one day without you beside me and have to spend an eternity remembering you with what memories we have together, if…if I could change it I would, but even if I could impart immortality to you Xavier I…I couldn’t do that, you’re human, your heart could only take so much loss”
Xavier (his heart breaks at her words, he pulls her back into his chest and takes a shaky breath, holding her tight against him) “it’s not right, you shouldn’t have to endure that pain alone” (his voice grows hoarse, small like a child scared of abandonment) “I don’t want to leave you…I want forever with you”
Andromeda (her core burns horribly at his words, making her eyes sting) “you will be Xavier” (she whispers dryly, taking his hand and placing it against her chest) “right here. I don’t know how much it’s going to hurt, I know that the thought of losing you makes my core burn so fiercely, but I wouldn’t have it another way. I’d rather it hurt so badly, it’s proof that this…this love we have is real, it’s proof you were real”
Xavier (her words make his stomach turn, the thought of her suffering so much physical and emotional pain made him sick with guilt. He could feel her steady heartbeat under his hand) “it’s burning because of me”
Andromeda (squeezes his hand tightly, grounding herself) “that’s how much I love you Xavier. I don’t care how little time we have in the grand scheme of things, I want to cherish every little moment because those memories will be the only thing keeping me from breaking, the knowledge of their reassurance is what keeps me going”
Xavier (his heart aches at her deceleration, he grips her hand like an anchor)”I don’t deserve you firefly…but I’m a selfish man and I just can’t let you go”
Andromeda (shakes her head and pressed a chaste kiss to his knuckles) “I’m not going anywhere. I’d rather suffer this than be mortal and let fate decide which of us suffers the burden of loss first…I’d rather this than leaving you alone. (She paused and takes a breath, looking into his eyes) “just…promise me a lifetime…even if it’s a human one”
Xavier (he nods, his lips curling into a bittersweet smile) “I promise…just…don’t forget me when I’m gone” (his voice is shaky as he presses his forehead to hers, his eyes squeezed shut to prevent a tear from falling)
Andromeda (shakes her head quickly and presses her lips to his in a messy tearful kiss, holding his face in her hands) “never, I couldn’t if I wanted to. You’re burned into every fibre of my being Xavier.”
Xavier (his eyes open to meet hers, his thumb gingerly brushing her tears away) “i should’ve known you’d be too stubborn to forget anything…let alone me” (he let out a breath and holds her cheeks) “just…promise me one thing”
Andromeda (leans into his touch and puts her hand over his) “anything for you”
Xavier (looks at her face closely, commuting every feature to memory, his fingers trembling as they brush over her cheeks) “promise me you’ll keep on living…I don’t want…I don’t want my passing to stop you from being happy or finding love again, promise me you’ll find it in you to move on”
Andromeda (pauses and really thinks about his words, her eyes welling at the prospect, she swallows a lump in her throat and nods) “I can’t promise success…but I promise I’ll try, for you I’ll try, even if it makes me ache to think about it”
Xavier (gently kisses her forehead and looks into her eyes, he knows it’s selfish to ask but he just wants her to be happy) “I know it’s not gonna be easy sweet girl, I know”
Andromeda (sniffles and leans into his touch, her breath shaky) “let’s stop talking about this huh? We still have have years to make memories, no need to go writing any obituaries yet”
Xavier (chuckles at her attempt to lighten the mood and nods) “good idea, no more sad thoughts, let’s just focus on relaxing before the games tomorrow huh?”
Andromeda (the tension in her body relaxes and she lays back on his chest, her tail curling around his leg to keep him securely close to her) “no more sad thoughts”
Xavier (stroked her back and feels himself relax at last, the thoughts plaguing his mind finally put to rest for now, he hums a soft tune as he watches her nuzzling into his chest, it was such a funny thing, a daemon curled up in his chest like a little kitten)
Andromeda (let’s out a deep sigh, glancing up at him) “I’ll be there for your display tomorrow, I’ll have to leave during the break between the ceremony to check in with one of my charges before I come right back, we can go out and celebrate, just us”
Xavier (nods and smiles, running his fingers through her hair) “that sounds perfect love”
Andromeda (preens under his attention and smiled warmly) “good, I think some Chinese will be in order, and maybe something extra special if you’re lucky”
Xavier (smirks, raising an eyebrow at her) “oh yeah? I guess I’ll have to give it my best then huh sweet girl?”
Andromeda (hums innocently and bats her lashes) “guess so”
Xavier (let’s out a light hearted laugh and tilts his head back) “cheeky minx, you know I’d do anything for the love of you firefly”
Andromeda (watches as he laughs with a love struck expression, her gaze melting at the sight) “I love you Xavier” (her words are sudden and soft)
Xavier (his expression softens as he glanced back at her, a smitten smile spreading over his lips) “I love you too firefly, always will”
Andromeda (hums and leans up to his face) “for the long haul?”
Xavier (his fingers brushing against the silver ring in his pocket, a content expression on his face) “for the long haul”

2001: We we’re teaching the kids how to ice skate for the first time. Xavier picked it up faster than his sister, but she was always his little cheerleader when he decided to learn ice-hockey.
2004: Xavier used to practise every afternoon with me during the winter, he was adamant about hockey trials in the coming school year. I always thought my little boy would grow to be a star one day, his determination and beautiful smile held no doubt.
2018: Xavier’s sister was going away for university later that year, so they were very determined to spend as much time together as they could. They tried out skiing this year as well - safe to say neither of them were going pro any time soon - it tired them out in very few hours. Their father found it quite amusing.
