Was I a Prince fan before he passed?
Well, I’ve always been an MJJ fan.
Everyone who knows me, knows how special Michael is and was to me. To me, he is on a whole other level that is untouchable.
But... was I a Prince fan?
Was I a lifelong fan? No.
Did I post pictures of him on my social media accounts before he passed? No.
Did I go around saying how much I loved him? No.
But for a week and a half, I’ve experienced an inexplainable void...
It’s frustrating when I see posts where people are talking trash about those ”new Prince fans”.
Being a lover of music, it’s an effortless requirement to love Prince. Prince was music.
I RESPECTED HIM, ADMIRED HIM, FOUND MYSELF STRANGELY ATTRACTED TO THIS MAN WHO WORE HEELS, MAKEUP AND BLOUSES.
He showed us that it was okay to be UNIQUE.
To be WEIRD.
To LOVE yourself the way you are.
To be CONFIDENT and SEXY.
To be SELFLESS.
To love GOD.
So please tell me, what’s so wrong by showing respect and your admiration to a man who was MUSIC AND MORE?
Next time people say “I was a Prince fan long before April 21, 2016”, or “I know songs other than just Purple Rain”, I’m happy for you. I’m glad that the world knew how much you loved him while he still graced this earth.
But why don’t we welcome all the 11-day-old fans and the one’s who are now publicly sharing their love for this iconic man?
