What is the point of social media like Facebook anymore?
One of the best things I ever could have done with facebook was to keep on testing myself on how long I could go without it - this was back when Facebook was actually still a thing young people cared about and not just a machine to feed you ads and gather your information to be sold off. Each time I did it I found myself able to put it off more and more and until my usage went down to damn near nothing. I can come here and still feel ok about posting and no one reading this shit, but for some reason I just feel the ick posting to facebook. How I can come here sit down and type and just let it go - with facebook I used to just sit down think about it and often times that led to me posting some trash I went back and deleted almost immediately. Like many I keep a facebook to keep up appearances of normalcy (not that I'm some serial killer or some other wild shit, but that just sounds weird) but is that even relevant anymore? Does anyone even still care? I remember even in like 2012 vividly that asking if someone was on facebook was already played out at the time, and we were already on this trajectory socially back then. It just feels cold now, I don't feel any motivation to interact, its just a constant feed of slop (a lot of it ripped off from the original creator without their knowing).
I will never shit on grandmas, grandpas, moms and dads for wanting to keep up with their family, and that's not really the problem. Nothing wrong with someone who just gets on there and post sweet things in the comments and stuff of their loved ones. But god is that site a cesspit now. I keep facebook for the people I know irl and drop in to see what's up when a call really isn't warranted. Facebook is nothing to have expectations of, who cares, so let it just be that now. I'm tired of screaming into the void.
