People in less so-called “developed” countries exhibit much less mental illness symptoms. And even when they do, they don’t present as vehemently as people in first world countries.

In just the last decade, hospitalizations for self-harm have been ballooning.

That alone tells us that something is changing. People aren’t “just this way.”

Acknowledging that capitalism can make mental illness more pronounced, cause mental illness in some stressed people who might otherwise be ok, and maligns traits in some that would otherwise be fine, is part and parcel of being aware. A lot of people unfortunately find this invalidating.

It all depends on what said advocate is actually doing with these attitudes. If their first aim is to dismantle capitalism, then good.
