Yo Yo Ma on practicing:
I actually enjoy practicing more and more. […] As a child, I practiced because I had to practice and you didn’t want to mess up. But that’s not a good thing. You want to please your teacher, you want to please your parents, you want to please your peers.
And now I practice because I’ve experienced so much love that you practice out of loving a phrase, loving motivic change, loving a structure or harmony change or the way a sound can get to something.

When you screw up the best part in a performance and can't let it go
Note to self
Stop thinking: “I’m not talented enough to execute this concept.” Start thinking: “I’m going to be a stronger artist when I’ve finished this piece.”
if you still hesitate, remember that you can always redraw the piece in the future!
The term “Audition” comes from the Greek deity Auditios, the god of embarrassing yourself publicly.
From a wind orchestra rehearsal in may :)
nice view!
Happy marching season to my fellow band nerds! May you get plenty of sleep and may you stay hydrated :)
GUYS I moved the music stand so it’s like 5 inches from my face and I don’t mix up notes anymore it is magical?? Incredible!
Update: my mom is making me get an eye exam hahahah
During a music lesson
Me: *rushes quavers and semiquavers*
My teacher: Don't rush these notes. Imagine if you were using a washroom cubicle and someone started barging in before you were ready. Don't barge into their cubicles. Give these notes their own space.
Me: *messes up in rehearsal*

Violin update I got the ribs off of the mould and I carved the blocks to their final shape (not in this picture… I’m too lazy to go take another picture). I also cut and glued the top and bottom soundboards which will be in another post soon enough
playing with too much espressivo
accidentally playing a minor 2nd with your section
ignoring 1st time repeat and 2nd time repeats and getting lost af
ignoring time and key signature changes and making the worst sounds ever
sight reading contemporary scores
playing a solo and faltering on one note
missing your sectional cue and hits
wasting your time instead of practising your new part and then getting to rehearsal trying to sight read the whole part
double tounging
excessive articulations
An original piano composition in B Minor with suspenseful undertones and sharp melodies.
you would not believe your eyes
if i actually practiced, guys
