The days between Christmas and New Year are always a pain in the ass but I managed to squeeze in some time to draw this, happy belated birthday to this precious boy 💜

I've been really enjoying using sketches as lineart and I think I'm getting quite good at it, I think I finally hit that middle spot between messy sketch and clean line that's so pleasing to look at (also it saves a lot of time lol). His outfit is one he wears in an official illustration (though he's an adult there), special thanks to @yoi-scans because I found it there. Go give this blog a follow if you want good quality scans of all YOI official art! (Can you tell I didn't feel like drawing hands today? 🤪).

i haven’t watched heated rivalry yet but i did just pull it up on my watchlist to reread the blurb and it clicked that there’s a YOI fic i read forever ago with essentially the same premise except (obviously) figure skating instead of hockey. i’m blanking on the name of it rn (will probably dig through my bookmarks later to find it) but it completely owned my ass and was an incredibly impactful piece of writing to me, especially when it came to the emotions i wanted to capture in my own fics. i don’t think it was completed but yeah, wow… the drama of it all…..

feeling unwell about how the show starts and ends with stammi vicino. the little prologue scene in episode 1, the sequence of victor at different ages performing part of it in an unlit rink, reaching out towards yuuri watching him, followed by the duo scene of them performing the routine simultaneously during the world championships, victor's performance asking someone to stay close to him and yuuri unknowingly answering him, perfectly bookended by the final exhibition performance in episode 12 where they perform it together as a duet.

there's a place you just can't reach unless you have a dream too large to bear alone....

Summary: When Yuuri looked down at the phone he’d rescued from the bedside table—the model practically prehistoric and enclosed in a scratched poodle covered case he hadn’t seen since the expletive-filled aftermath of Yuri Plisetsky phone-throwing incident #6—and added the bright “...2015” blaring at him from the screen to the cramped lonely single bed he woke up in and the mosaic of Victor—oh god, Victor—posters on the dirty walls, he barrelled headfirst straight through confusion, careened through every possible stage of panic like a champion sprinter in the anxiety Olympics, and landed in that uncanny state of calm that can only prelude a record shattering skate or life shattering recklessness. Considering that his life had apparently already been shattered—because somehow it was 2015 again and he’s in his old apartment in Detroit and Victor isn’t here why isn’t he here oh my god what if he doesn’t remember me—he was hoping for the former. Yuuri wakes up five years in the past, before the Grand Prix series that led him to Sochi--and to Victor. Fortunately, he's not the only one. Hold on to your plushies, skate fans, because this season's about to get interesting.
