Context: when Lii landed last weekend, she told me, "Oh, I don't have the rings with me," because we'd been discussing that we do want to get married for the past 6-ish months, and I was like, "That's fine! Not this trip then lol"
Yesterday, we go to a local walking area that we visit every time she's up here that has some sentimental memories for us, and we have a lock and pair of keys to attach to one of the bridges as like a symbolic gesture. I think it's just a "instead of rings" promise thing, since Lii made it a point to ask to come to this place this week when it wasn't initially in my plans. I originally thought she was gonna propose there, but since she said the rings were back in America, I wasn't expecting anything.
We attach the lock and throw the keys into the river, and just as I'm turning around to face her again, Lii goes, "So, I lied to you. I do have the rings." She's holding the little black box open with both our rings in there. I go, "HOLY FUCK?!" and then look up when I see movement behind her and go, "Oh, shit, there's kids over there." Cue the 2 minute proposal pause as a young family hang around the bridge for a moment, completely oblivious to what's going on, lol. But once they're gone, Lii actually gets down on her knee and puts the ring on. I'm bad with names so I can't remember the metal, but it's a black ring with purple, blue, and pink sparkles all around the center. It also has "Non te ne andare" engraved on the inside. (Her's has "stammi vicino". YOI is how we met for those who do not know.)
We went to my grandparents later in the day for a family dinner, and we played a little game of "wear the rings but don't say anything." Only my family did notice but are too nice to say anything. By the end of the meal we gave in and just showed them off and told everyone lol.
We also facetimed some of Lii's family later on. It's crazy to think I'm going to have in-laws and nephews and nieces, but I'm excited.
Probably the funniest moment was Lii asking me, "So which is the best moment of vacation so far, the FF7 announcement or this?" and I go, "FF7 is close but obviously it's this!" For the record I was screaming in my living room over FF7 the other day sooooo I get it, lol.
She's gone again and I'm sad, but it's only temporary.
