My name is Julian. I'm a Hellenic Polytheist and have been worshipping the gods in some form for 7 years at this point. I'm also an art student who loves to paint and write poetry, which I use for a variety of purposes including religious expression.

Due to a series of personal circumstances and experiences I am very dedicated to my worship of Aphrodite. I also worship a host of other gods, of course.

I am fascinated with religion and history and love to learn as much as I can.

I’m 100% not an expert on anything. Do not take any information I share as authoritative.

Fuck off with any bigotry.

I have multiple disabilities which impact my whole life including my religious practice.

I love to hear other people talk about their religious beliefs and experiences.

hey, I still might revisit this blog sometimes but obviously it's not my main focus at this point in time. I may post something fairly soon though, maybe about an upcoming tattoo????

also, I privated some of my old drawings and poems that aren't my favorite anymore. My art has just improved a lot since i first started this blog. I'll try to make up for it by posting some of my more recent art eventually, lol

In the Hellenic polytheist tradition: Kharis as a foundation.

Athena helping me graduate. Hestia making living in the dorms bearable. Asklepios, Epione, Asklepiads helping me through surgery and recovery.

From "Devotionalism, Material Culture, and the Personal in Greek Religion," paragraph 29 by K.A. Rask 2016

"The mutual relationship between mortals and the powerful beings with whom they interacted is frequently characterized by the concept of kharis. Kharis translates roughly as 'delight, a pleasing thing' and has the sense of 'favor' or, more precisely, 'good turn. It lies at the heart of what scholars view as Greek religious reciprocity. The term frequently appears in the formulaic language of dedicatory inscriptions and in prayers of direct address to the gods. The idea of recompense and good turns suggests a world in which people and invisible figures entered into a relationship which included the assumption of ongoing future interactions. Robert Parker is adamant: "almost the whole of Greek cultic practice is in fact founded ... on the belief or hope that reciprocity of this kind is a reality.'" Page 29

"While the debate about the needs and desires of the gods raged in philosophical discussions, there seems to have been a real belief that the reciprocal relationship between devotees and spirits was beneficial and desired by both. Holy figures entreated worshippers to establish shrines, reflecting the gods' desire for recognition and honor. Individuals sought help from the gods in response to the personal realities of life; they asked for help or advice on specific topics connected to their own experience and family, frequently with respect to emotionally charged issues. Often requests were of a financial nature or related to economic well-being and business prospects. The intimate relationship between Aphrodite, sailors, their safety at sea, and their ultimate financial success appears in abundant evidence from the Archaic period and after. At Dodona, one man asked, 'should I take up sheep-farming?' The answers to these questions had very real consequences for the people involved; the uncertainty and fear behind the questions is at times palpable, as financial and economic well-being was often directly tied to a family's safety and survival." When a tree dies, where does it go?

Does its soul join those in Asphodel or Elysium?

Does Charon bear it, freely and without charge, across the Styx?

Does it dig its roots deeply into the abundant grounds of the Field,

Or lay its roots beside the restful souls of ancient heroes from times past?

Does its final breath intermingle with the breeze?

The same breeze that brushes back your hair,

That carries the melodic sound of your laughter?

Is its soul carried on that breeze,

Far away into distant lands,

That it couldn't explore before?

Does it appear in the forests that Wild Artemis roams,

Housing the squirrels and the birds that she hunts?

Is its soul held in the hands of Lifebearing Demeter,

Cradled sweetly as a mother cradles her child?

Or would its soul bury itself deep within Gaia's soil,

Finding peace and refuge surrounded by her all-loving presence?

Aphrodite is one of the most essential goddesses whether humanity likes to acknowledge her or not. Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty, the keeper of being enamored with any one or any thing. Without her would we find our partner’s arms paradise? Without her would we still share laughter with our closest companions? Without her would we find enjoyment in our smallest pleasures? Aphrodite holds our desires in her hand; from our greatest passions to our smallest sparks she has our love in her grasp.

Praise Aphrodite for all of the love she gives us whether it be new, lasting, or fleeting for she will always hear our desires and guide us with love.
