“Ghibli Park” Concept Art For New Studio Ghibli Theme Park Opening 2022
Nearly a year after it was announced, Studio Ghibli has released the first concept art for its planned theme park called “Ghibli Park”, which will transport visitors to a wonderland based on the beloved films of the Japanese animation studio.
NHK have reported visitors will enter through a recreation of the Antique shop from Whisper of the Heart, once inside the park fans will be greeted by the kind of architecture they’ve see in Howl’s Moving Castle, be able to visit Kiki’s home and bakery and visit the village from Princess Mononoke. Theses areas will include rides and attractions inspired by Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service.
Although we already knew there will be a section dedicated to My Neighbor Totoro, not many more details were public knowledge until now. In addition to the home of Totoro’s friends, Satsuki and Mei, fans will be able to enter the settings of some of their other favorite Studio Ghibli films. There will also be a warehouse in which attendees can explore play areas, exhibitions and cinemas.
The theme park isn’t going to be filled with crazy rides or anything. The main focus will be to allow visitors to enjoy and relax in the Studio Ghibli worlds. People will be able to enjoy the nature and the atmosphere of it all.
Originally targeted to open in 2020, the park will now debut in 2022 in Nagoya in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, on the site of the World’s Fair.
