FACES
(more specifically, my face, in many different angles :o )
I was recently trying to draw some characters kissing and could not for the life of me figure out how to draw head tilts from a side angle, the jaw does some weird shit that screw with my mind’s drawing abilities. Sooooooo, to improve with this I took just a whole bunch of selfies and drew myself! And wow it was really really helpful! I also experimented with a few emotions and expressions because faces crinkle up in real strange ways and I wanted to figure out how to draw it.
So here are my sketches from this exercise, ahahahaha, my face. And I would 100% recommend doing this if you’re having trouble drawing specific facial angles or expressions, its so handy in trying to figure out the short cuts and drawing muscle memories.
If you want to know, this drawing exercise was to help me drawing da:o art, and whole lotta kissing. (ignore the page numbers, there is no missing page 5, I accidentally skipped writing it)
How do you draw noses?
I’m not sure what specific part you’re wondering about, so here’s a run-through of my process from sketching to painting!
1) The first thing I do is simplify the nose into a few basic shapes to get a prism-like block, like so:
2) I can now easily draw the prism shape in three-dimensional space depending on the angle and rotation of the head.
3) Using the guidelines/planes I can draw a proper nose in any angle! There aren’t many tricks or shortcuts for this step, unfortunately (other than practicing lots). I recommend using references, they’re always helpful :)
4) Really important to note: all noses vary greatly, especially from different ethnicities! A high-bridge “aristocratic” sort of nose or a ski-slope button nose might be accurate for some people, but definitely not everyone. Compare differences in size, width, a hooked or button nose tip, high or low nose bridge, and so on:
5) Then I paint! I have a skin tone tutorial here, if it helps. Take note of the lighting, skin tone, etc. Here are some things I keep in mind:
For pale skin tones, the nose sometimes has a redder colouration than the rest of the face because of increased blood flow.
The nose also usually has highlights (due to oil). These are located on the tip of the nose, the nostril groove, and where the base of the nose meets the flat area of skin around it!
Hope this helps! In the end, all stylistic choices are completely up to you. Art’s subjective, so feel free to draw any noses you want :)
Hi y'all! Folks wanted me to explain how I draw mouths, so here it is! Nothing super complicated, just a really quick and simple demonstration. Another quick note I’d like to add- I’ve always been taught that you should never learn to draw features outside of the face. For example - A lot of young artists will recognize that they need to practice drawing eyes, but then after hours/days/weeks of practicing they find themselves unable to work all this new drawing ability into an actual face. Same thing goes for mouths/noses/brows etc. Get the bulk of the work out of the way on the first attempt! Draw the whole lower half of the face!
Figured I should include examples of this in action. If you change the shapes you get different faces, but the method doesn’t change. Its all just shapes!

Hi! Is there any chance that you'd be willing to do a tutorial on how to draw or colour noses? I adore the way you paint, and thought I'd ask since I can never do noses right. 😅
Hey there!
Noses can be as hard to draw as hands, I can see why one would struggle with them. So here’s a tutorial that will hopefully teach you a thing or two!
When I draw a nose from the front (which is 99% of the time) I like to start with the nostrils, because they are the most important and most visible part of the nose. Then I just make an outline of the shape by drawing the columella (bottom part of the nose between the nostrils), and the ala (side parts). I put some base color at the bottom of the nose and some lighter color at the bridge of the nose. Then I clean everything up and add some highlights at the tip of the nose and the sides of the ala, like shown.
For drawing a nose sideways you should think of the nose as 2 bubbles and a tube, it helps a lot. Then draw the nostrils and erase the lines of the circles that are not needed. In this drawing I assumed the light comes from above, so a shadow would form under the nose.
Here are some examples of the best noses that I’ve drawn:
Tip: when drawing a face it’s important to remember that the skin on the nose is a bit more pink/red than the rest of the skin!
Also, if you’re struggling a lot draw with a reference! Look up some pictures of noses and try to replicate the photo, that’s how I learned to draw noses.

I’ve received a few of these messages over the past couple of months and they’ve motivated me to sit my ass down and make some sort of tutorial on how to draw lips. I’m not an expert, but I hope it’s helpful, and if it’s not, then at least you’ll know how I personally do it:

Wet Edges Look in Krita 2.9
A little effect figured out. I'ms ure someone can figure out a use for it!
I started off with some different brushes to show how this affect looks on different kinds of images.
First, we want to duplicate the layer our painted objects are on, since the filter we are going to use will turn the layer itself into an outline.
Now, we want to go to Filter > Edge Detection > Sobel.
It looks really gross right now but its very easy to fix.
Uncheck the “Make Image Opaque” box.
Cool! The lines are on their own separate layer. You can use alpha lock on the layer to paint the lines different colors.
