My mother (Liliane Barbosa) was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized in her liver and bones primarily but as of today (05/31) was said to be so advanced and has spread out so much that chemotherapy or any kind of treatment would do more harm than good. She’s been in hospice care for a couple days now and me and my brother has been switching to sleep by her side every night and take care of her.
Her medical insurance pays for most of the expenses but we have to pay over $6.650 out of pocket, since I can’t work and need to take care of her, we can’t afford it and her disability insurance hasn’t kicked in yet.
It was her desire to go back to Brazil to pass away while with her family but a private medical flight would cost $85,000 which is way too much for us to afford.
She can’t sit up anymore so she couldn’t go on a commercial flight. She’s starting to get delirious and haven’t been able to eat due to a side effect of the high dosage of the pain medicines she has to take in order to not feel excruciating pain all the time.
She wants her body to be sent back to Brazil which is where we’re from and all her children and family live at. These funds will help ease things on me, my brother our family in general while taking care of her and allow us to give her a proper quality of life at this very end and also fund our trip back to our family in Brazil with her ashes or body (if we can save enough money for that).
