Kara did in fact bite her tongue. She hadn’t really calculated her words before they tumbled out and maybe she should have. “I didn’t mean for it to come out as ill-mannered as it did, I apologize.” She explained quietly. “I think you’re fascinating, to say the least, and I would love to get to know you.” She breathed out. Wow, she really was not good at this. “We don’t have to be friends. It’s just.. a kind of stranger doing something nice, that’s all. It doesn’t need to amount to anything. It doesn’t need to.. be anything at all.”

When Kara apologized, Morgana was surprised with how quickly she found herself growing less defensive. In the past, the apology wouldn’t fly. If someone had made comments such as those they’d be either harmed or dead, depending on the severity of what they said and how she reacted to it. “Of course you find me fascinating, Kara.” Who wouldn’t? “I will humor you and do this, just once.”

“You’re right, but shouldn’t that also come with an added respect towards you?” She asked, mostly curious to hear what she had to say about that. Kara felt her smile widen and she adjusted her glasses by the corner of the frame, her shoulders shrugging the tiniest bit. “I mean, it’s just a friendly gesture.” She confessed. But now she was curious to know more about Morgana. “I would offer to buy you a drink but I’m uh, not much of a drinker so..”

“If you’re implying that people should respect their elders because I’m a few centuries old, I suggest biting your tongue now,” she stated, the warning tone in her voice very clear. Morgana knew she was old, but she looked young and could tell most people she was young. She didn’t need Kara pointing out that she wasn’t. “A friendly gesture,” she repeated. “I don’t need friends,” she said.

“That’s no valid justification, for me or for anyone else.” She explained. But she wasn’t as inwardly alarmed as the outside showed. She wasn’t even of this planet, so why should someone being from centuries ago really surprise her? Kara felt a small smile return when Morgana finally shook her hand. It was brief but it was a step in the direction she wanted, and hopefully what the other woman wanted too. “My offer for coffee still stands. It doesn’t have to be right now, but.. I uh, thought you’d like to know.” She noted gently.

“Someone being from a time so long ago isn’t normal. It’s certainly not what people expect to hear, so I can hardly blame them or be upset,” Morgana said. When Kara mentioned coffee, much like she had in their first encounter, she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do. “Tell me, why are you so intent on taking me to get coffee?” she asked. “If this is still about you being clumsy, you should just leave it alone.”

Dropping the hand from her face, she kind of nervously wrung her fingers together. “I didn’t mean to.. seem to alarmed,” She explained honestly. She definitely recognized her name but she couldn’t quite place it. “Well, it’s nice to finally formally meet you, Morgana.” Her smile grew again and she scooted the tiniest bit closer, extending a hand to her. Though she didn’t entirely expect her to accept the gesture, she was willing to at least attempt, fixing her glasses gently with her other hand.

Morgana looked at Kara curiously. “You are far from the first to react in such a way,” she told her. Her eyes widened a little as the other woman scooted closer to her, she wasn’t expecting that. She cast her gaze downward to the hand being held out to her and she sighed. She had already snubbed her handshake offer once in their first encounter. So, despite some hesitation, she reached out and shook Kara’s hand firmly, but quickly.

Her eyes stayed fixated on this woman for what felt like ages, but it was barely a minute. She pressed her tongue against the inside of her cheek at the rejection of coffee. No one had ever refused a free cup of coffee, especially from her. She was almost offended. Kara took a deep breath and nodded slowly. “You’re welcome, I suppose.” She shrugged the tiniest bit. “Hopefully, our paths will cross again. I’m Kara, by the way, Kara Danvers.” She had extended a hand, in hopes she would at least get the tiniest bit more acknowledgement, or learn this woman’s name so she could try to repay her somehow, beyond just an apology.

Morgana couldn’t figure out why Kara kept looking at her like that. All she had said was no, surely that wasn’t her first time being rejected for that kind of offer. She pressed her red lips together for a moment, looking up at the other woman briefly. “We’ll see, Kara Danvers.” she said. Morgana glanced at the extended hand, but shook her head, before turning and walking away.

The corners of her lips curled a little wider. “.. Oh,” She caught herself, careful to keep her reaction in check. “Twelfth century, that’s..” Kara cupped a hand over her mouth in disbelief and quickly shook her head. No, not possible. She tore her eyes away from the woman’s and watched the small flame in her palm, looking back to the warm amber glow of her eyes. “You’re willing to tell me, and show me, this, but you still haven’t told me your name.”

The look of disbelief on Kara’s face was one she had seen many times before. It wasn’t new, most people looked at her the same way. She was hundreds of years old, but she presented as young and beautiful. She wondered for a moment if Kara had immediately figured her out. “Morgana. Morgana Pendragon.”

Lashes fluttered furiously, mulling over each word that was spoken to her. It wasn’t that she chose to ignore almost everything spoken to her, but she was mildly confused about the words she was hearing. “I’m sorry, but did you say a few hundred years ago?” Kara tilted her head a bit. “Are you.. not human?” She asked quietly. That was incredibly forward of her to ask such a thing, but now she really just needed to know.

Morgana had to pause. Did she say that? She did. She never kept it too secret that she was who she was, especially since most people didn’t believe her anyway. “I did,” she stated. “I was born in the twelfth century, Kara,” she told her with a small sigh when she was met with another question, a bold one at that. “Forbearnan,” she said softly as her eyes glowed amber. She then opened her hand to reveal her palm, a small flame coming from it.

Her head shook in response and she sat down on the opposite end of the bench, making sure to put a safe distance between them. She turned towards her gently, her legs crossing easily. “No, I’m not stalking you. I just.. happened to be out for a night time stroll.” She chose not to answer the bit about being different from everyone else. She was, but this woman was still essentially a stranger to her. There was no need to bring out her life story. Kara glanced up at the sky, her lips curving into a light smile. “I bet the stars would look magnificent if there wasn’t so much cloud cover tonight,” She gave a tiny sigh, eyes refocusing on the other woman again.

A real smile found it’s way onto Morgana’s features. Not something forced, or because she had done something bad. But because she actually felt like smiling for once. “I prefer the night,” she admitted. “The darkness is peaceful.” As the woman next to her began to look up and talk about the stars, she nodded, taking a quick glance up at them herself. “I remember a few hundred years ago the stars would shine far more brightly than they do now,” she told her, locking her light eyes on Kara.

Her nose scrunched the tiniest bit and she licked her lips, taking an uneasy breath. The corners of her lips curved into a smile, a slightly wider than intended one too. “I.. might,” Kara offered gently. “Can I buy you a coffee, or something, to make up for bumping into you?”

“You’d be a fool to believe that,” Morgana told her. If there was one thing she was bad at, it was being overly friendly like this stranger seemed to be. She didn’t trust anyone, she knew that kindness really only went so far and lasted so long. She didn’t have time for it. “No, you may not. I have elsewhere I need to be,” she said. “Thank you for your apology. But I must be on my way.”

She wasn’t typically out this late at night, but she had been flying among the clouds. She had been listening intently for anyone she could help, even something as trivial as a petty theft could have been a detrimental save in someone else’s life, and that truly meant so much to her. It was a shame there was so much cloud cover tonight because the stars looked so remarkably beautiful on this Earth. She had been walking for a couple minutes when she saw someone sitting on the nearest bench. That voice was familiar to her, too. “Thankfully, I’m not like most people.” Kara replied. “Do you mind if I sit here?”

Seeing the same woman from the other day, Morgana wasn’t sure if she was surprised or not that she was there. They ran into each other in the park the first time. “You again,” she mumbled. “Are you stalking me?” she asked. “And I am quite certain you’re no different than everyone else,” she stated. She didn’t know that she believed her words though. Shrugging her shoulders at the question, Morgana looked at the open space on the bench. “Fine.”

She adjusted her glasses gently and bit the inside of her cheek a little harder than she intended. Kara let out a tiny chuckle. “Would you really believe me if I said no?” She asked, hoping it would at least earn her a small chuckle or something.

What Morgana really wanted to do was roll her eyes at the woman and say no, she wouldn’t believe her. But instead, something else came out of her mouth. “Would you believe me if I said yes?” she retorted, a small, almost playful smirk beginning to tug at the corners of her mouth.

The day has been nothing but Morgana dealing with irritating people. Hundreds of years being alive and it still baffled her how people could act. The amount of cranky, rude customers in the tattoo shop that afternoon was appalling. She had made herself feel a little better by mumbling enchantments to ensure infections would form on the tattoo site. Thankfully, nobody could see the amber glow of her eyes in the process. Once she had cleaned and locked up for the night, she was relieved. It was late, but she liked the dark. She decided to take a late night stroll through the park, stopping to sit on a bench. She looked up to the sky, taking in the sight of the few stars she could see. Hearing footsteps, she turned around, surprised to see someone else there. “Most people don’t venture out at this hour,” she stated.

The immediate anger that rose in the woman she bumped into startled her a little bit she didn’t let it show. She took a deep breath and gave a smile. “Apparently,” Kara offered back, her tongue pressing against her cheek. “I really am sorry, for bumping into you.”

Morgana took a few breaths to try and keep a level head. From head to toe she looked the stranger up and down slowly. “It’s fine,” she muttered. “I would suggest being more aware in the future,” she told her. “Do you often crash into people?”

There were a lot of things on this Earth that, even after living here for a number of years, still surprised her even after all these years. The warmth of the yellow sun, the sparkle in the stars, the swirl of sounds mixing together to bring everything to life. Kara was enjoying a midday walk through the park, her eyes focused on everything but what was immediately around her. She bumped shoulders with someone, knocking herself off kilter a little bit. She stumbled some, certain that whoever she bumped into was also knocked off their course. “Oh, my gosh, I’m so sorry. Are you alright?”

A day off of work meant there wasn’t a lot for her to do. She wasn’t sure why she decided to hang out in the park. But it was a decent enough day out for mid-January, and it wasn’t too busy there yet. Morgana didn’t appreciate being knocked into. Sure, it wasn’t that big of a deal in theory, but it drove her crazy when people were off in their own little world instead of paying attention to what was right in front of them. Turning to face the woman, she glared slightly. “Is it really that hard to watch where you’re going?” she snapped.

It seemed like they had finally slowed down which was fine considering it was close to closing time, so naturally Killian didn’t mind it at all. He collected some of the empty glasses on the bar top, before grabbing the towel to wipe the bar top down. Heading over to the newest customer. “What can I get for you, mate? It’s almost closin’ time.”

Morgana had never set foot in this place before, but there was a first time for everything. She heard his words, and shrugged slightly. She didn’t have all that much concern for when closing time was. “I’ll have a pint of ale, if you don’t mind,” she said softly but firmly.

“You know, I don’t usually do this,” she said as she sipped her wine glasses. “One of my friends suggested that I get out more and set me up on this, you see. So if we have like, no connection at all, I don’t blame you.” Selina finished her sentence and sipped from the glass in her hand as she stared at the person sitting in front of her. “So, uh, what’s something that I wouldn’t guess about you?”

“I highly doubt there will be a connection of any kind. It’s two people having a meal together,” Morgana stated, eyeing the other woman with a curious, yet serious look on her face. Morgana didn’t date. She never dated. Throughout her centuries of living, she preferred to be alone, not tied to someone. The date setup from someone in the tattoo shop wasn’t something she welcomed with open arms, but agreeing had been enough to shut them up without her having to magically intervene to get them to keep quiet. “That’s none of your concern. If you can’t guess it, it isn’t something you need to know.”
