controversial opinion alert:
i’m rewatching 1x19 and i can’t help but feel a certain way about how gideon treats hotch.
gideon first calls during his birthday and says, “hey, i know you’re taking the weekend, but-“ and then asks him to come in for a briefing. he knows it’s his birthday and he knows he asked for that weekend off to spend with his family, yet still calls and convinces him to come in. they could have easily done this case without him?
and then when hotch realizes that it won’t actually just be a couple of hours, he’s seen hesitating to call haley. gideon then goes “call from the car” fully expecting him to still come on this case.
now i know hotch is partly to blame, he’s a grown man and he should have been more forthcoming about wanting to spend time with his wife and son. but i just can’t shake the feeling of disrespect from gideon about his marriage.
the job is important yes, but just because gideon’s relationship with his son went to shit because of this job doesn’t mean he should let hotch fall down the same path.
idk, i just feel like the early enabling of hotch dropping everything for this job was the catalyst for the failure of his marriage. you see it in many different scenarios, down to the simple “im going out with the boys” type of thing, where the opinions and actions of the bros hold more weight than the woman in their life.
like i said, aaron is a grown ass man and he didn’t go about it the right way and that’s on him. i’m also not saying he didn’t care about haley and jack, that’s clearly not the case. it just helps the theory that hotch tried to be everywhere at once to help everyone he could and he got way in over his head.
