it didnât matter how hard or how many times she scrubbed the back corner booth, the tabletop always remained inexplicably sticky. penina sighed, throwing the rag she had been using onto the table in defeat. the weather was heavy with an unforgiving humidity. condensation ran slowly down the walls despite the fact that the windows were thrown open in a desperate attempt to catch even the slightest breeze. the collar of her faded yellow shirt stuck to the back of her neck, perspiration causing tendrils of her hair to cling to her cheeks, the rest scraped back into a hasty ponytail. god, she hated the summer. the ding of the bell signalling the entrance of a customer caused her to sigh. â take a seat, and iâll get you a menu, â she called, the well-rehearsed line tumbling from her mouth almost as a reflex action.Â
âGosh..I need to smokeâ she thought to herself. Remi was finishing up her shift at buckley placing and organizing the new 15 copies the store just got of the brand new bee gees vinyl âyou should be dancing / love so rightâ. This was her busiest shift in awhile, new music always got the store bumping, which excited her because she loves giving music suggestions but also stressed her out to no end. Excusing herself past customers she got to the bee gees bin and began placing the vinyls, she let out a small sigh feeling another customer standing quite close to her âThis is the second round of these vinyls and they are bound to sell out just as quick as the first round, do you want one too?â she exclaimed without even turning around to look.
penina had pushed open the door into buckleyâs with a vague sense of dread - she knew it was going to be packed, but really, the sheer number of people in the small record store was just excessive. she had specifically waited to pick up the new beegeeâs album until just before her shift in the hopes that she would catch the store at a quiet moment. it wasnât that she particularly disliked crowds as she was attempting to avoid having to deal with people for as long as possible - her eight hour shift would be more than enough social interaction for one day. â itâs a popular release, â she pointed out with a shrug, leaning to pluck one of the freshly-laid out vinylâs from remiâs newly-crafted display. â iâm guessing youâve already listened to it? â
I enjoy controlled loneliness. I like wandering around the city alone. Iâm not afraid of coming back to an empty flat and lying down in an empty bed. Iâm afraid of having no one to miss, of having no one to love.
( zendaya / cisfemale ) did you catch penina fielding the other day? as always, she was being her usual unrelenting & stoic self, despite being twenty years old. i wonder if theyâre still a waitress around here. itâs nothing but faint humming, fresh linen and heavy silences when it comes to them, isnât it ?
hi hello there ! iâm sj and this is my g penina - nina to the regular folk of the world !
nina is a waitress at dorothyâs diner - she worked there part-time the whole way through high school and it just morphed into her full-time job once she had that degree in hand.
higher education literally never even crossed her mind - nina is someone whoâs very caught up in the every day details of trying to get by, and honestly doesnât really feel like she even has time to sit around crafting grand dreams for what her future might be like, because the future is vulnerable, and she doesnât want her heart getting caught up in something thatâs never actually going to happen anyway.Â
so in other words penina is a huuuuge pessimist. prepare for the worst and hope for the mediocre kinda gal.Â
that doesnât mean she canât support other peopleâs dreams, but sheâs not the best person to come to if you want a smile and agree type of answer. she doesnât fluff the truth, even if it might spare someoneâs feelings to embellish a little. she wonât be brutal, but she will be brutally honest.Â
she loves to sing - and itâs not that sheâs some fantastic hidden superstar, she just loves music in general. learned to play piano on her grandmaâs upright and never looked back. if you happen to stroll into the diner when its otherwise empty, you will definitely hear faint humming emanating from some corner.Â
itâs just nina and her dad at home, who raised her on his own after her mom took off when she was two - and she always maintains it wasnât all that traumatic for her given that at two, she barely even knew who the woman was. the person sheâs closest to in the whole entire world is her dad - ride or die, and a complete daddyâs girl.Â
she knows that her mom is somewhere in new orleans, but she has literally no interest in making any contact with her beyond the birthday card she receives every year. she knows her dad wouldnât object to her finding out more about her mom, but she also feels like that would be something of a betrayal - to seek out someone who left him in the lurch like that.Â
honestly sheâs just - very reserved, very guarded, has never actually had someone be interested enough to make her open up so she just... never has??Â
aaaaaand thatâs kind of it! i donât have wanted connections because iâm a bag of trash buT hmu
