What would Pennesura look like?
Dunno! Never played Guild Wars 2 and I don’t know much about the race besides that they fill the small inventors niche.
It’s really hard to pull the hypocrite that I am into feudal/medieval fantasy. And given the whole poverty thing and how I am with MMO’s, (Of all the ones I’ve tried I’ve only ever enjoyed myself for more than a month with Wildstar.) pay-to-play with no free trial is a model I can’t really afford to do just to try a game out. And if too many blocks are put on a free trial’s character creation phase, I probably won’t get past that. (I’m lookin’ at you, Final Fantasy.)
I learned that GW2 does not make you pay to try it out, so here. I left it installing while I slept and tried slapping this together. But I still know... Pretty much nothing of the lore or what have you.

Welp, with the proposed exodus from Tumblr coming up, there’s not going to be anywhere suitable to host posts about these AvP, Wildstar, or Transformers tabletop writeups. Oh boy. This is going to be a fucking pain in the ass to distribute~
Taking a break from working on the 5e Wildstar playable races to work on some base Ikthian monsters. Wheee~ Gonna include the concept Ikthian monsters, Ironclaw, (Designed by Jeff Merghart) the Ikthian Sharkanoth, (Designed by Johnson Truong) and the Cortex Analyzer~ (Designed by David Sladek)
Copying and pasting this from a previous post, but hey yo. Gary Astelford has offered to give approvals to lore suggestions if we give ‘em. And you guys have about an hour and a half (It’s 10:30 AM PST.) to propose alterations before I submit these ideas regarding Marauder race biology and life expectancies for approval/disapproval.
Since Grund evolved from blubbery sea mammals and in the lore keep that blubbery layer, I’ll say that they do have nipples but their women’s breasts are no different from their men’s and overall the species has very little sexual dimorphism. With Oghra, say that like the men the women have no hair and are tall, lanky humanoids. While they have breasts, they’re not particularly large. But they’re why the Marauder races are into chests on other, non-Marauder sentient species.
Then the Eeklu… Maybe I’ll say Eeklu women are less likely to have long beards or mustaches but can, but they’re more likely to have ridiculously bushy eyebrows. They already look like an upright cat with rat hands and tiny, hairless hamster ears. I see no reason to change their shape up that much, mammals aren’t really prone to noteworthy dimorphism like fish, birds, or reptiles are. (Shit, most mammal species have *no* sexual dimorphism what so ever. Ya gotta look at their junk to tell. Whereas for most lizards besides skinks and geckos, you can tell from as little as a head shot.)
For lifespans, I’ll say 150 for Ekose since they’ve gotta live to at least 110 since a captain and first mate who survived being stranded on Grismara for the Long Night are still alive and in touch with one of the Mordesh they bunkered up with. Then the Oghra and Grund can have human-like lifespans, since everybody else in the game lives around 20 years fewer or 30+ years longer.
Ikthian Biology - Wildstar
Hypothesizing about Ikthian lifespans now. According to Gary, he suspects the Ikthians are long lived due to their fishy nature. So, let’s look at some long lived fish!
Oreos, (Oreosomatidae) are fish that live on the continental shelf. And some of their species live for about 170 years. The Greenland shark was once estimated to live for 200 years, but researchers believe one of the healthy specimens that they studied was somewhere between 272 and 512. Some rockfish can also live to be just over 200. And on the fresh water end, many koi have been reported to live over 200 years with the oldest dying at 226.
So overall, “around 200 years” seems like a really good ball park for Ikthians to potentially live. But then comes “when do they reach adulthood?”
Most Ikthians found on Nexus were born on Nexus according to the lore. They are not a native species, but they can rapidly reproduce and adulthood is arrived to swiftly evidently. So they found it more convenient to grow their researchers and army on-site. When they did try to call in the big guns of their native armada, we annihilated it. Meanwhile, large/medium sharks tend to take decades to reach sexual maturity. Great whites take 26 years for males, and 33 for females. The Greenland shark listed earlier? It takes 150 years for them to become sexually mature. So definitely can’t base that part of Ikthian biology on shark examples.
It’s a big jump from the long lived species mentioned earlier, but mollies (A species of tropical, fresh water fish.) reach adulthood in about 3 to 4 months. We also know Ikthians commonly “incubate” other Ikthians who were already born. And wasn’t it once proposed that they use these incubation tanks to speed up the physical maturation progress? With Ikthian numbers, it feels like saying that they naturally take 3 to 4 months to reach adulthood but are incubated to cut that time in half seems pretty reasonable.
We know Ikthians hatch from eggs that need to be incubated submerged in water. And we know that they hatch and grow rapidly. This also cuts out estimations based on sharks, as salt water shark eggs pretty regularly take 7+ months to hatch. According to the Fish Information Service, most fish eggs hatch within 7 to 10 days, so I see no reason to question that number.
Anybody wanna add their own input/discuss this before I propose this to Gary Astleford for approval? As he said people were welcome to now that the game is done. Won’t ask about this one until at least the end of the month.

What’s killing me right now working on this 5e adaptation are these burning questions.
In the lore, the three Marauder races tied together by their ancestors being banished from their home worlds after waging a war with each other have shown interest in women of other sentient species. What, if any, sexual dimorphism do Oghra, Grund, and Eeklu have? (Which of the three even have more than one sex?)
What are the lifespans of Oghra, Grund, Eeklu, and Ekose? And if I may get exceptionally lucky with answers, what of Ikthiansand Grumpels? Or even Falkrin for a real stretch of luck?
I’ve been debating fielding these final lore questions to Gary as the game shuts down this week to help with this homebrewing. But it feels like such a stinging subject and like it might be better to let sleeping dogs lay, ya know? But I’d also like to have as many of the NPC races from the game represented as playable character options as possible.
I’m also debating whether or not to try the really difficult and make homebrews of the game’s classes.
For the record, I haven’t dropped those AvP homebrews that I was working on. They just haven’t been a priority because access to those franchises’ lore isn’t about to become a lot more difficult.
