Shelter Rescue Stories - Bubs
By Paige, Dog lover, Puppeteer and Children's Entertainer
Meet Bubs (short for Bubbles). This amazing, little fur baby came into our lives about a year and a half ago. But, don’t be deceived by his “eternal puppy face” (as one woman in the park described it), he is a full-grown, 13 lb., 4 year old Corgi-Spaniel mix (sometimes called a ‘Corki’.) He was surrendered to the Los Angeles Pound by his previous owners who were moving and sadly, could not bring him along. He was then miraculously rescued just in the nick of time from the Kill List by the wonderful people at ‘Perfect Pet Rescue.’ I found him that same night on Petfinder.com and the next day he was happily nestled in bed right between myself and my boyfriend.
Ever since then, we have thanked our lucky stars for this fluffy love muffin! Bubs is so sweet, docile, affectionate, and best of all quiet (like a ninja). He is incredibly polite, and came to us already trained! He even knows some tricks like shake hands. We were blown away by how well behaved he was from day one.
Some of Bubs’ favorite pastimes include: chasing squirrels (and hilariously attempting to climb trees in hot pursuit), napping all day in his “den” (shh, don’t tell him it’s actually just his travel crate), donning his plaid bow tie and greeting his local fans (otherwise known as taking a walk around the block), and finally scarfing down breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and second and third dinner, if we would be so kind.)
Some of Bubs’ least favorite pastimes include: having a Santa hat strapped to his head (which he clearly resents, but I can’t help myself, it’s too cute), being in the vicinity of motorcycles (the sound always makes him jump, I guess he’ll never be in the Hells Angels), and visiting our old pal Leslie (a.k.a. the Vet!)
Bubs also has a number of nicknames including: Bubula (pronounced like Dracula), Bubala (like the Yiddish term of endearment), Mr. President (only when he’s wearing his bow tie of course), and the Hamburgler (watch out, he’ll steal your heart!).
