‘ — and then he was all, “jun-kun, jun-kun! what does this button do?”, like, what kinda person doesn’t know how to use a microwave? almost caused a fire ‘cuz he didn’t take the foil off once. no wonder y’all kicked ‘im out of your school. ’ // @ilimagine
the knowledge that jun and hiyori had been hiding a puppy in their living area is news to him, though not entirely surprising news considering hiyori’s personality. in any case, meeting a puppy named bloody mary is far better than meeting a person named mary who is covered in blood, a distinction that jun had to make nearly immediately after bringing up the puppy. he keeps his other questions to himself for the time being, knowing enough about reimei’s rules on pets to have the sense not to ask until he’s ushered into jun’s dorm room.
he’s about to open his mouth to say something when a bark cuts him off, and his gaze fixes on mary running to meet them, excitedly running around him and jumping up in hopes of being pet. it’s not like this is his first time seeing a puppy, but he’s still caught at a loss as to what he should be doing here. he ends up standing hopelessly in place as the puppy runs circles around his legs. he looks over at jun, confusion evident in his face,
“ is this normal..? should i be doing something? ”
Even as he stands at almost six feet tall and holds within him immeasurable talent Jun could never hope to reach despite his daily efforts and the nightly torments of his dreams, there’s moments where Nagisa feels very much like a child in a body too old for his mind. His is a naivety born out of inexperience and lack of contact with the world he had been kept away from, so that curiosity of his that would be common knowledge for anyone else was hardly an annoyance for Jun in moments like these.
‘ Yeah, Mary can’t stay still when she’s excited. I think she might be smelling Ohii-san on ya, too. ’
He bends down to pick up the whining pup scratching at Nagisa’s uniform pants for the attention she’s being denied, and turns her head to try and lick her owner’s face instead once she’s held near his chest. Jun chuckles but gently pushes her towards his teammate with silent encouragement.
‘ You can pet her, Nagi-senpai. She doesn’t bite — probably. She's barely ‘round other people, so I can’t really say for sure, but I don’t think ya gotta worry. ’
‘ You’ve never met Bloody Mary before? Thought Ohii-san might’ve shown you her already. ’
As it is routine, Jun takes a moment to look at both ends of the hallway before opening the door to his dorm room, movements casual enough to hide the apprehension in the thin line of his mouth. Unceremoniously but not unkindly, he ushers Nagisa inside and closes it behind them quickly, sighing. Reimei’s strict no-pets-allowed rule forces him and Hiyori to exercise continuous caution, but a puppy is a variable neither of them can hope to control, and the time to train her is limited with their schedules filled to the brim with studio recordings and television interviews.
A bark greets their entrance, and he looks up to see the entirety of Mary’s small body shaking with the strength of her waving tail. She clumsily jumps off his bed, momentarily getting herself tangled in the sheets, and runs in circles around the newcomer. Jun huffs a quiet laugh. It’s only natural she’d ignore him to focus on a stranger when she spends most of her days locked in his room.
‘ It’d be real bad if people found out she’s here, so don’t go tellin’ anyone, alright? It’s a secret. ’
talks abt jun to myself bc i love him and i have a lot to say
winter live and certain eden sub stories haven’t been fully translated so there’s info we’re missing, so i’m going off from what we do have.
jun’s father had every right to feel angry and betrayed at how the industry played him to raise jin’s popularity. he was humiliated over and over and used as a tool to destroy his own career, but his fault was passing his grudge on to his own son to continue those crushed dreams. we saw in guilty of perjury that, as a super idol, jin used to get tons of threats and blackmails mailed to him very regularly, and jun’s father was the one who sent him the tape and the letter that called him a liar. that takes place during anzu’s time at yumenosaki, so this is very recent. after all these years, jun’s dad is still bitter, going as far as to send hatemail. there’s really not much that said that jun wanted to be an idol, only that he was forcefully enrolled in reimei academy against his consent, one of the Top Idol schools known to be extremely elitist and strict. he speaks about his dad rather disdainfully, actually. i don’t blame him at all. e/nstars is full of shitty parents and jun’s are right in that list.
he’s in it, initially, only because he was forced to. you can see how jun isn’t in the idol business out of love, be it by his attitude, by his words, or how he simply follows orders too perfectly to be doing it out of his own passion. this changes by the after winter live -- he sees the same sight his father got to see before, the teary-eyed faces of fans cheering his name, people who wanted to see him sing and dance on stage. it’s not enough to make him fall in love with being an idol, but it gives him a bit of a sense of closure. it makes him understand why his father took his fall so badly.
he may have been forced into it, but he still did his best. he still took it seriously and desperately worked his ass off to be where he is now, in the top idol group their age with people like nagisa and hiyori who seem to be in a completely different league. he’s a second year now, but if his dad enrolled him in reimei academy since middle school, he would’ve been at it alone for 4 years, being treated like dirt by the hierarchy of the school system.
will jun ever truly, fully love being an idol? i doubt it. he’d hate being compared to his father, but they both have these self-destroying long-living grudges that take years to wane, if they ever do at all. i think the bitter taste that comes from those 4 years at reimei and his father’s influence before meeting hiyori will stay with him for a long time, but he didn’t come this far to give up at the last moment. he wants to stay in the industry, but not simply as one of its stars -- he wants to fix the entertainment world and its foul play so that the thing that happened to his father and jin won’t happen again. honestly i’m so proud of him?? it’s a really big goal, but he always takes his job very seriously and i know he’s committing to it.
about eve and eden...
jun is the moon to hiyori’s sun: he can shine thanks to hiyori’s light. he’s often described as a shadow who makes hiyori shine brighter, a shadow who exists in order to enhance hiyori’s light. jun isn’t bothered by this; he knows his role and he plays it well. he doesn’t particularly want to be an idol, but that doesn’t erase the fact that he’s worked his blood sweat and tears into becoming one. by himself, though, he hadn’t been enough. all those years at reimei until hiyori’s transferring from yumenosaki he had been treated like dirt, like he was a dirty rat at a darkened alley the special students either overlooked or sneered at.
jun said so himself: he was happy and honoured when hiyori invited him to be a unit together. hiyori had been like “a brilliant ray of hope.” for all he acts like hiyori annoys him to no end ( and he really does, don’t get him wrong ), he never once denies that he owes hiyori everything and that it’s thanks to him he got the chance to stand on stage. these two compliment each other perfectly in and out of stage, and that’s what makes eve so formidable. hiyori may get on his nerves constantly, but he doesn’t hate him. he’s very grateful to him and wouldn’t change what they have.
i don’t get the vibe that jun feels inferior to the other members of eden -- it’s more like, he’s very well aware that he’s not as talented as nagisa and hiyori ( ibara’s a bit of a grayer topic as he stands in more equal grounds with jun, as opposed to the other two who are a genius and a descendant of royalty -- at one point jun even calls ibara and himself garbage, but not self-deprecatingly, just as a fact in comparison to those two ), and he’s okay with that. being the best had never been his goal; all he wanted was to make the name sazanami famous again, and even that is a dream forced upon him by his father. he doesn’t feel out of place in eden, because he doesn’t fully embrace being an idol, so being overshadowed by his teammates isn’t something that bothers him. he acknowledges that he’s still unexperienced, and he’ll do as they say without too much complaint because he wants to be better.
overall i’m really happy about his development from summer live to winter live. though i know that’s the point of eve’s dynamic ( being “two souls in one” and all those “light and shadow” comparisons in their relationship ), i do wish he came to shine on his own rather than rely on hiyori, but since he’s a 2nd year and hiyori’s a 3rd year, it might very well happen once hiyori graduates. really wish h/apiele brings eden back i want them to grow to love each other as friends and not just unitmates......
“ you don’t Know? ” he’s aware he shouldn’t have expected someone who wasn’t there to know, and yet he’s still caught just a bit off guard. there’s never a good time to ask about what he views as fine’s crimes against him and the other oddballs, and bitterness seeps into every word he has to say about it, “ he helped that emperor start a war that tore down countless People, including my own Brothers. i guess he neglected to tell you about that, Hm? ”
‘ It’s not like we’re all mushy enough to tell each other everythin’. ’ Hiyori’s secrecy comes from sins once committed, but he hadn’t believed him a heartless tyrant, not truly. Arrogant and selfish like a ruler with no regard for his subjects’ tear-soaked pleas, perhaps, but not malign. Natsume’s voice mirrors blades with its sharpness, and through the spark of irritation he feels, Jun frowns and contemplates. ‘ But I did hear lotsa trashy rumours about Yumenosaki back in the day. Rigged matches and stuff. This about that? ’
jun’s speech is odd to translate correctly into english bc he mostly speaks in keigo mixed in with the occasional rough speech, which makes him sound really inconsistent. add in his problems with expressing himself correctly and coming off as more aggressive than he really is ( which isn’t very, he’s mostly just blunt and socially awkward; unless you’re hiyori/ibara/jin he really doesn’t mean to offend ), and he comes across as a strange type of delinquent who speaks very formally and addresses people with respect while saying rather crude things.
it’s pretty obvious the respectful way of talking was beaten into him by reimei academy’s strict hierarchy. i’d take a bet the regular course students are treated terribly by the special ones judging by how harshly he speaks of them and how confused and astonished he was when hiyori chose him as his partner. he also doesn’t deny that hiyori pulled him out of a miserable life, and that he’d go right back into it if hiyori died -- but that’s a story for another day. it’s a dog eat dog world, and teaching himself to be respectful in order not to get beaten down by others shows through with his mixed speech. it’s like, he’s very consciously trying to sound polite to the point it sounds awkward, but he tends to slip a lot and lets his regular rough talk show through. i believe the only people his age he doesn’t refer to as (name)-san are his teammates ( ohii-san/nagi-senpai/idk what he calls ibara but i’ll go with his name w/o honorifics )
this is all in work environment, though. as he needs to watch his public image, especially as a member of Eden, he’s got to watch what he says. outside of idol duties he’s very much a regular teenager.
❛ then we’ll face them all head on~! ☆ this is only our start, after all. even if there are plenty of painful times ahead, where we’re battered until we’re bloodied and bruised, i know we’ll be able to continue to shine — because we have each other. that’s trickstar’s strong point, isn’t it~? ♪ ahahaha, but jun-jun’s so nice, worrying about us~ ❜
‘ Don’t say disgusting things — I’m not worried. It’ll look bad on Eden if the guys who beat us get their ass handed to them by being overly lax, y’see, so you better turn that enthusiasm of yours into your weapon, Akehoshi-san. We won’t forgive you otherwise. ’
“ i doubt tomoe has changed much in the course of a Year. ” that and natsume’s not exactly eager to think about the past iteration of fine. “ he was a sorry excuse of a person back Then, and i’m under the assumption he’s just the same Today. ” // @penumbraed
‘ Hmm, you’d be right, yeah. Ain’t exactly the prince charming he looks like on stage, huh? ’ Once a menace, always a menace, he supposes. There’s more vitriol in Natsume’s semblance than his contempt suggests, though, and Hiyori’s time in Yumenosaki is clouded in his leader’s own scorn. There’s a story there, and Jun isn’t known to be tactful. ‘ It’s not hard to see why you hate ‘im, but what did he do? ’
❛ eh, i don’t think we’ll taste too good though? hokke~’ll be kinda stale, he’s been reeeeeaaally stingy lately! he won’t even give me any money, how mean! ☆ oh, but ukki~’s been looking pretty cheerful lately! did he finally finish all those bananas? maybe he’ll taste better~ well, everyone here at yumenosaki is strong in their own ways, so i have faith that won’t happen so easily. ♪ ❜
‘ Hah? You’re taking this way too lightly, don’t you think? The world is going to have its eyes on you from now on, so you better be wary. After Eden, many more will come looking for a fight with you. ’
