theres something about the bete noire episode that like i think people are really missing the point of.
like tbh i think maria is a bitch, BUT the episode was also about gaslighting AND white woman tears and how white woman tears effect black women.
BUT maria still seemed kinda bitchy bc she immediately started being a bitch about verity and the only thing she really knew about verity was "shes the weird girl who always hung out in the computer lab and i started a rumor about her". they were in like early highschool it looks like.
but the fact that ten years later, maria is still a bitch about her and thinks so much of her is fake all because shes "weird" like kinda annoyed me
BUT she also was correct in feeling like the resume was fake. BUT she also just kept saying how weird she was and that was the whole thing is "shes weird, i dont like her".
BUT we also dont even know how much of what maria said is even what maria SAID. because verity is able to make anything the way she wants it if she speaks into her pendant. SO that also means maria may have just been like "oh hey i remember verity" and that be the end of it. but verity couldve spoken into her pendent to be like "maria is going to act just like how she did in highschool about me so i can still be the perfect victim"
bullying still fucking sucks and is tragic but verity had no right to do what she did. she couldve gone to therapy. she couldve told her pendant "im at peace with how i was treated because we were all dumb kids and im okay now" and that be her reality, but she didnt.
Haymitch and his ducklings
i think something that elevates the hunger games franchise is not just the quality of writing but the integrity of it. tbosas isn’t just a cash-grab by suzanne collins in the age of sequels and reboots (though i won’t pretend that didn’t play a part), it’s a character study of the main antagonist with a different structure than the main trilogy. and importantly, it doesn’t just re-hash the same old themes and beats the main trilogy had, it expands on not just the world of the hunger games but the themes as well, it actually has something new to say about the trilogy’s themes about class, capitalism, power, and control, in a way that couldn’t be explored with the main story because the protagonist of that story simply did not have access to the world that’s being explored in tbosas.
i understand the people who call for books/movies to be made about haymitch, finnick, johanna, different years of the games — we love those characters and want to see more of them! i’d kill for a novella on finnick’s days mentoring tributes, or katniss’s parents falling in love. but at the end of the day we probably wouldn’t be very satisfied with those stories being fleshed out if they had absolutely nothing new to say about the world, they’d be enjoyable, but not as interesting and engaging as tbosas has been.
where there is trouble, there is a white man with an afro
They Cloned Tyrone is a masterpiece. Pulling from 5 different decades of black culture, the movie is a mix of Undercover Brother, the Boondocks, Black Dynamite and Get Out. 10/10.
watch this movie yall!
Miles Morales really represented every fanfic writer by saying “Nah Fuck Canon”
THIS POST CONTAINS GOTG3 SPOILERS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
so it was only through this movie that I realised how incredible nebula and rocket’s relationship really is, or rather could be if they had more screen time.
they have the exact same backstory. horrific and violent experiments were performed on them both by galactic assholes with god complexes, and obviously they have both been recovering and running from that their entire lives.
but also, their personalities are just super similar - closed off, rude, no-nonsense, angry, etc. and that means that they can relate to each other in the same way as each other. what I mean is, they have spent their lives suffering in silence, and are not the type of characters to have long heart to hearts and open up to those around them. but that’s okay, because they can suffer in silence together. they can wallow in their pain together. no words required, just pure understanding.
and the fact that they were the only main guardians left during the blip?? are we just going to overlook how close they would have gotten?? a close knit family unit reduced to two people?? literally the only people each other had left?? LIKE???
UGH and the fact that she gets him bucky’s arm for christmas. it was on a different planet. she had never celebrated or even heard of christmas before. but it was THAT important to her to give it to him?? and the looks on their faces!!?!? YES
and just that scene where nebula hears his voice again and just sobs. and mantis (a literal empath) looks at her and says to rocket, “we love you and we appreciate you and we are so happy you’re okay because you are our best friend.” because nebula, just like rocket, isn’t the kind of person who would feel able to say that herself. but actions and reactions speak more than words, and those tears spoke VOLUMES of the value nebula places in her friendship with rocket and it just makes me so feral
The hardest thing to believe about The Hunger Games is that an authoritarian government in North America would invest in high speed rail.
I just saw Black Panther : Wakanda Forever and as a huge fan of Namor in the comics, I am so glad they didn't waste his potential on the screen. He actually feels like a deadly threat and his power is not undervalued by his loss at the end. I think it has a lot to do with Tenoch Huerta as well (his performance is incredible and he has such a charismatic and powerful presence on screen) but I love how Ryan Coogler writes his villains by incorporating racial, political and historical issues in their development. Killmonger and Namor are both understandable because it is impossible to deny what they and their people have been through. Namor's ancestral land was litteraly destroyed by colonizers, his people massacrated and forced to leave their home and Killmonger grew up as a Black man in America, that says it all. You root for them because the origin of their anger doesn't come from a magic stone or whatever. Everything is painfully real.
anthony bridgerton said “i am not a man of poetry” and then turned around and delivered “you are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires. night and day i dream of you” all men do is lie
no matter how heartbreaking it can be the moment you realize your mother is just a girl who happens to be your mother and knowing that doesn't take away from the complexities your relationship may hold but that moment is possibly the first of many where you can understand each other... it's so important and I loved how Turning Red was able to visualize that
Some of my moves… are also hers.
In every wood in every spring there is a different green.
So knowing what we know about the celestials in eternals and how they're born is it possible that:
A. Thanos knew how they were born and was also trying to push back the births of tiamut and many others as they need a high population to be born
And B. When Dr strange saw the future and their many fights against thanos its possible that he saw more than he was letting on, that he had to let half the population vanish both to bide time for earth and so that the avengers heroic deeds would inspire ajak to align herself with earth and betraying the celestials. Let's face it if they had beaten thanos in infinity war they wouldn't have had much time until tiamut was born and ajak wouldn't have swapped sides
Dr strange not only let thanos win in infinity war so they could beat him later but so that the eternals could also save the planet
Peter really said I can fix them
God, this is so cool. I always wanted brothers
