Merry and Pippin Growing Up Together(My Headcannons!)
- Before Pip was born, Merry didn’t really have anyone his age to hang out with
- Sure Frodo was fun to hang out with at times but he was more than 20 years older than him.
- And then Pippin was born
- Nevermind that Merry thought he looked like a prune
- Within hours of meeting this guy he basically adopted Pippin as a younger brother
- When Pippin was able to walk and stuff, Merry basically took him everywhere
- Literally like a Pippin shaped backpack/travel bag
- Finally Merry could play with someone around his age(even though he was a little younger he still was closer in age)
- Dude role played Bilbo’s journey and Pip would be random characters
- “We must hide in the barrels, Thorin!”
- “SmAuG the GreAt and TeRrible! *Pippin making baby noises*
- Yes Merry appointed Pippin as Smaug
- When Pippin grew up and learned to talk, he started wanting to be Bilbo
- “I’m related to Bilbo!” “We’re all related to him, Pip!”
- Yea Frodo joined too…especially as a fauntling
- Merry was a water hobbit(common of hobbits who lived in Buckland)
- Introduced Pippin to the water when he was real young and now Pip’s family thinks they’re both kinda crazy
- And yea they actually get IN the water…they’ve pulled Frodo in multiple times
- Y’know how in the books Frodo steals mushrooms too? I’ve decided the stealing of mushrooms is a generational hobbit trait that is passed down from one sibling/family member to the other
- So of COURSE Merry starts bringing Pip along.
- Dude used him as decoy until he learned even fauntling pippin was surprisingly dexterous and sneaky
- “Pip? Where’d you get that?”
- *Pippin with a handful of mushrooms*
- And let’s be honest, Pippin didn’t share his secrets in the beginning
- Actually he hasn’t even shared all his secrets to this day…but he trusts Merry(and sometimes Frodo) to know a few
- When they “grew up”, they just got closer
- Pip was the youngest of three sisters so Merry was like an older brother which he really liked
- But also he got annoyed cause Y’know how older brothers are
- I swear it makes me laugh every time when I hear it in the movies cause it’s such a big brother thing
- Also it’s cannon(movies) that basically every time something crazy happens, Pippin will glance at Merry to get reassurance and check up on him
