I decided to write this little fanfic after reading this. [x] I haven’t written in awhile, so tell me what you guys think. :)
Hazel sat there in the booth, watching her glass of water sweat and the ice cubes clink together. She sighed as looked at her phone to check the time. 7:24 PM, an hour and a half late.
"Excuse me, miss.” Hazel jumped as she looked up at the waitress standing next to her, smiling a bit. “Are you ready to order?"
Hazel slightly bit the edge of her lip. “I’m pretty sure he will be here, any minute now actually.” She saw apologetic expressions, not only on the waitress, but the other diners around her too. Hazel called out before the waitress turned away. “BUT!” Her voice a little high, she cleared her throat, “I will have a caesar salad please- while I wait for him.” The waitress wrote down her order, smiling, and turned away.
Hazel sighed again as she silently chastised herself, thinking that she should have just left but ordered her food in the heat of the moment when the other customers watched. Taking a sip of her already luke warm water, she thought about him.
Her date was a random guy in her Ancient Civilization Class that she meet on the first day of the new semester. He was kind and funny; easily the popular guy, but with her he always went out of his way to ask her how she was and what she was up to. After a while, Hazel took the bold chance and asked him out.
When she set up the date the first time, she made excuses when he didn’t show. But for the second time in a row? “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” She deserves better than this and with a determined look in her eyes, she made a decision. After she ate and paid for her salad, she was going to leave, whether he shows up or not.
“Alrighty guys, we gotta pay this up front. You ready to go?”
Frank nodded with agreement at his cousin, Percy, followed by their friends, Leo and Jason.
“Man the food here is always good.” said Jason as he ran his fingers through his short blonde hair., his blue eyes gleaming with satisfaction through his glasses.
Leo then smiled as he put on his brown leather jacket over a grease stained shirt and tan skin. “Yeah but nothing can beat my cooking.” He said with confidence, his eyes brown twinkled with mischief. Then he laughed, his curly brown hair bouncing everywhere.
“True,” said his cousin Percy. With tan skin, sea green eyes, and black short hair sticking up everywhere, his cousin is popular with the girls at the campus, but he remains a loyal boyfriend to a girl named Annabeth. “Maybe we can invite Nico next time, when he doesn’t have a date with Will.”
Everyone agrees to that. Nico, who is their other friend of the group, is two years younger than they are. A lanky kid with deep sunken eyes and black hair that seemed to cover his face, he was kinda hard to approach. But he was an great study partner in our group and an awesome friend watching their backs
As Frank went to grabbed his stuff, his eyes can’t help but look back to the corner of the restaurant again. His eyes again were instantly drawn to the prettiest- heck more like beautiful girl he has ever seen: deep mocha colored skin, golden eyes that seemed to twinkle like gems, and cinnamon brown curly hair- she was perfect to him.
As they got up, Frank frowned as the waitress dropped off the girl’s salad at her table. “She was starting to eat now?” He thought, “But...she has been here longer then we have.” From the way she was dressed with the yellow sundress, the golden gladiator sandals, her hair done up in nice high pony tail, it dawned on him that she could possibility be waiting for her date to show up.
“Did she get stood up? What kind of guy makes a beautiful girl like her wait?!” His anger mounted when he came to that conclusion.
As they reached the cashier to pay for their meal, he turned to Percy. “Pay for me.”
“What?” Percy was taken aback saw the sudden anger in his cousin’s face.
“Pay for me and I will pay you back later,” he said through grated teeth.
“But...” Percy looked around, wondering what could have possibly ticked off his peaceful cousin. His eyes settled on a dark skinned girl sitting at the other end of the restaurant, who had a look irritation mixed with disappointment. Turning back to him, Percy saw the seriousness and determination in his dark eyes and he smiled. He brought out his keys and placed it in his hand, surprising him. “Jason will give me a ride home. Make sure you tell us how it goes okay?”
Frank took them with gratitude. Guess that’s what happens when you practically grow up with someone who was almost like a brother. He grinned, “Thanks Jackson, I owe you.”
Percy laughed. “Damn right, Zhang!”
With one final nod, Frank broke away from them and began to think of a battle strategy as he walked toward the opposite end of the restaurant.
As he walked over and kept his eyes on her, he started to get nervous and...oh man, what was he going to say? What was he going to do once he got there?
“Just calm down. You can do this. YOU. CAN. DO. THIS.” By the time Frank got a handle of his nerves, he neared the table.
Hazel just had her 5th bite of salad when somebody slid into the seat across from her.
She stopped mid chew, looked up, and...oh my god. At first she thought it was her late date and was about to give him a piece of her mind, but it was someone else entirely. He was a big burly guy, looks to be asian and about a year or two older than her if not the same age. As he looked at her though, he had such a handsome smile as he made eye contact with her but he had a nervous look in his eye though. What does he have to be nervous about?
Finishing her bite and straightening up she asked wearily, “Um...may I help you?”
The guy looked even more nervous at her question and, taking deep breath he said, “I-I’m sorry for disturbing you but I couldn’t help but see that you were alone and I had to come up and talk to you. Is it okay? I’m not disturbing you am I?”
Hazel just stared at him and couldn’t believe what she heard. A random guy just coming out from nowhere wanting to talk to her? She looked away, hiding the mix of emotions on her face before asking, “Why? Why me?”
She couldn’t see his reaction but she could hear the seriousness and frown in his voice before saying, “Because a pretty girl like you shouldn’t be alone.” She peeked at him from the side, still trying to hide from him before he added. “And...” he rubbed the back of his neck. “I-I would like to get to know you as well.”
Hazel turned around to face him in disbelief. She thought he came over here out of pity or something, but...he wanted to get to know her. And she has to admit, he is a handsome guy but he is also sweet and a gentleman with him coming up to talk to her.
She dig into her salad, blushing and smiling. “That is...sweet of you...?”
“Oh! Frank. My name is Frank Zhang.” He grinned brightly. She chuckled and introduced herself. “Well, my name is Hazel Levesque.”
“Hazel...,” he said, the name rolling off his tongue. “I like it. It’s nice to meet you,” he smiled. Hazel felt giddy when hearing him say her name but continued to look down at her food and tried to polish it off. “Thank you. It’s nice to meet you too.”
Trying to contain his emotions, Frank leaned forward a bit and placed his crossed arms on the table, his leg jiggling though. “So Hazel, what are you doing after dinner?”
Hazel looked Frank first before glancing at the time and sighing, she gathered the rest of the salad. “Unfortunately, I have to head home my brother doesn’t want me out too late.” Just when she thought her night was turning around, she has to make if home before it got late or her brother would worry. She loves her brother and she knows he worries but sometimes...
She looked back up to see that Frank was disappointed as she was. “Oh.”
As she finished her meal and got up, he shot up straight to his feet too. “Lemme!” He grabbed his backpack and took Percy’s keys out. “I’ll drive you home.”
Hazel flushing, she stuttered at his offer. “Oh no! You don’t have to!”
Frank then walked up to her, close enough to feel the warmth radiate from his body and she saw just how tall he was too. He smiled kindly, “No. I would like to, if you don’t mind.”
Hazel gave him the most sweetest smile, thinking that she really like Frank and wouldn’t mind getting to know him more as she nodded yes, accepting his offer.
She paid for her meal at the front, Frank escorted her to the car, and they were well on their way to her house. And as she watched the house go by on the window, she thought about the probability of seeing Frank again.
They pulled up to her house and she got out of the car, Frank already there holding it open. “I’ll walk you up,” he said.
Walking up to her house, Hazel didn’t want to think of probabilities. She wanted to see Frank again. Reaching her door she turned towards him, courage in her eyes. Yeah, she may have been disappointed by her first date but Frank....Frank didn’t seem to be the type to hurt anybody so maybe...
They both talked at the same time and was stunned as they looked at each other. They bother started laughing, Frank’s a big laugh and Hazel trying to contain her’s. “You go first.” Hazel wanted to give Frank the chance to talk, to hear his voice.
Frank, realizing that he was given the spotlight, turned sheepish. “I-I still would like to get to know you more Hazel. I was wondering if...if you would like to go out this Saturday.”
Hazel smiled sweetly. “Are you asking me out on a date?”
Frank smiled wide as he blushed. “Yea-yes. Yes. Would you like to go out on a date with me Hazel?”
She ducked her head down, delight spreading over. “Yes. I would love to go out on a date with you.”
Frank puffed out his chest, happiness filling him up. “Then let’s exchanged numbers.”
As they exchanged numbers and bid each other goodnight, promising to contact the other before Saturday, after the door closed, Frank turned around and skipped down towards the car. Getting in, he did a happy dance, his happiness shining through as he started the car and drove away.
He couldn’t wait until Saturday.
