Anyway while I was forgetting I had a tumblr, I ended up making a marvel oc. The new girl in the Peri-verse is Nadia Torrance, aka Sigil
I'll talk about her more under the cut (if it works. Im using mobile tumblr right now and i don't want to go turn on my laptop)
Full name: Nadia Torrance
Power: Hemokinesis, Psychometry
An eccentric woman studying to be an archaeologist, though her studies eventually led to her getting powers.
Born in a medium-sized Colorado town, Nadia was born to a local theater actress and an author. Though, it was very quickly found out that she was the result of an extramarital affair her mother had. While her father chose to stay and raise Nadia with her, the fracture in the family had already formed. She was living proof of her mother's infidelity and unfortunately bore much resemblance to the man her mother had cheated with.
Nadia's father ended up being extremely distant with her while much of her family looked upon her with disdain. She often says she only ever felt comfort with her mother. Though, that comfort disappeared at 14 after her mother was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently ended life on her own terms to "spare the family more debt" in her words. Nadia was now left alone, raised solely by her grieving father.
Much of Nadia's teenage years she recalls being full of neglect and her first tastes of loneliness. Her father was a mess. Come 18, she left home after an argument with her father, with him blurting out that she shouldn't exist. Unfortunately, she internalized these words, yet she went out into the world on her own.
Much of her time drifting is unknown. It's only known that she did start studying for an archaeology degree in her mid 20s. This studying ended up with her living in a tiny apartment in New York City and working at a local museum.
In her late 20s, she was invited to a trip to Iceland with other archaeology students to observe and have hands-on experience with the excavation of mysterious new islands that all popped up in the sea around the country. On one of them, Nadia came into contact with an artifact resembling an eye, whose bright flash blinded her peers but made her faint entirely. When Nadia awoke, she felt fine and went to go look at the artifact again, but it had disappeared. Nonetheless, she went home, only to discover her new powers shortly after. Living in NYC with the Baxter Building and Avengers Tower in sight, the fact that she gained powers didn't freak her out. In fact, she saw it as a chance to prove her worth to her father once she has them mastered.
Though, a year later, one of the seemingly routine cosmic attacks on the city occurred. Nadia's father had been in town for a book signing and they happened to cross paths in the chaos. Nadia immediately wanted to prove herself and assert how important she truly is. Though, in her rant, she didn't notice a large piece of building debris falling towards her. Her father shoved her out of the way, ending in the chunk falling on him, ending his life. With both parents gone and now no one to prove her worth to, Nadia felt lost and alone in the world. More than she ever did before.
Nowadays, outside of her job, she dons the alias Sigil and travels along, searching for relics that could grant her wish of having the life she wants. A yearning wish to be loved by many, including her family. And by this point, she's almost willing to do anything to get that.
In terms of personality, as stated, Nadia is eccentric. A weird fascination with bones. A geeky love of history. And well, she's quite nosy, with her psychometry not helping. She loves cracking jokes, blatantly flirting with anyone who catches her eye, and finds humor in annoying some people.
Beneath that veneer however, Nadia is a deeply lonely woman grappling between whether or not she thinks she deserves to exist. She's still grieving her mother all these years later, and has forgotten what love of any kind really feels like. She's used to being invisible to others, and despite being a natural skeptic, will sometimes play along when someone is manipulating her so she can pretend it's a genuine bond. There's a lot of rage over her life inside of her.
All in all, an oddball hiding a deep hurt.
As stated, the powers Nadia gained were hemokinesis and psychometry.
The hemokinesis, aka blood manipulation, is straightforward. So long as the blood is outside of the body or if there's an opening in an object containing it, she can bend it to her will. She often carries small packets of animal blood from butcher shops to ensure she always has "ammo". The most common use of this power for her is hardening manipulated blood into thin, glassy swords or dozens of needles, both for combat. Though, she does also harden blood seeping from wounds as a temporary way of closing wounds.
Her psychometry is more complicated. In order to receive the memories of the target, her bare fingertips must make contact with the target itself. So, if she were to use it on a person, she must touch their skin or hair to make it work the way she desires. Additionally, she cannot unconsciously use her power. She has to actively will it forth.
Taking memories from objects is easy for her. It's how she learns what an object has witnessed, but people are much more complicated due to emotions being attached to memories. Thus, attempting to read the memory of a being older than 105 years old can be dangerous for her. It can overwhelm her fast, and make it much harder for her to process the information. Additionally, it can cause very painful migraines and nosebleeds in manners she calls "psychic backlash". In extreme cases, it is even possible for this backlash to concuss her.
Often, when she uses her psychometry on a person, they can actually feel her reaching through their mind. A feeling akin to someone's hand carefully searching the inside of a backpack on your back. Thus, when wanting to extract memories more covertly, she tries to have the subject distracted.
With both powers, it is easy to tell when she's using them, as her eyes change from their natural hazel to yellow, with ring-shapes around her pupil, akin to a camera shutter.
While not a power, an important piece of her kit is a golden belt she took possession of. All it does is let her change into her "Sigil" persona in a flash (aka "Armored Form"). As such, it kinda just works like a rider belt in Kamen Rider. Just a transformation device.
That's really all I have for now. Speaking about any canon character connections is shaky. I like imagining her and Star-Lord being friends. She really could use that found family dynamic. Though... I also tend to pair her with Loki 👉👈. Not her...greatest idea but, I like imagining it as initially them both using each other for gain, before it turns to "oh no i care".
