Not Another Love Poem

The pain pushed his heart out of his chest. He caught it in his palm. He held it there with a solemn stare, dreading it might beat again. His stare chilled, his heart shrank. The girl's presence was worse than the scorch of fluorescent bulbs, a cinnamon tinged cloud came from the mouth that held a smile. He closed his palm, put up a glacially guarded visage. Her smile did not waiver. She moved closer. He swung his free fist and hit her as fast and hard as a winter's squall. She lay on the ground, her eye now frost bitten. A slight quiver began in his palm. An Indian summer swept across his face. He extended an open palm towards her presenting a shivering heart. She accepted them. "I'll be your warmth until you feel like summer again."
