“Hey Blondie.  You ignoring me?” AJ asked as he leaned back in his chair to look at the pediatric surgeon.  “Because that would not be nice at all, if you were,” he added with a grin.  He moved a arm behind his head.  “How’s your day going?  Anything exciting going on with your tiny humans?”

arizona smirked and raised her brow. ‘ would i ever ignore you, aj? ’ well, she probably would but she wouldn’t admit that to him. ‘ my day is just wonderful, i have surgery in an hour then i get to go home to my wife and baby, what could be better than that? ’

“Good morning Dr. Robbins.  How are you this morning?” Levi asked as he approached the nurses station.  He had just finished his pre-rounds and the interns did okay.  He was always careful to teach them when they didn’t know things, but Levi wondered if they even took him seriously now that he was a resident.  

‘ i am great, dr schmidt, how are you? ’ arizona beamed at the resident before looking back down at her charts. ‘ samuel in room 4032 has been asking for you, i think you must’ve made quite the impression on that little guy. ’

Ryleigh was sitting at the nurses station relaxing but she needed to give Arizona a few things. They weren’t urgent but she still needed the scans. When Ryleigh saw Arizona coming around the corner she perked up. “Robbins.” She called out and got up waving her over. “Here’s the scan from Kelly’s CT. I looked at them. It doesn’t look like anything has changed.” It wasn’t what they wanted to hear but it was the information they had. They would just have to work with it. 

arizona was minding her own business blissfully unaware of anyone around her when she was snapped out of her daze by a voice calling her. “ryleigh, hello.” she smiled wide and took the scans from the younger woman, she frowned a little but no changes meant things hadn’t gotten worse and at least that was better than if things had gotten worse. “we’ll just keep monitoring for now, assess in a few days time and we’ll go from there.”

arizona smiled at levi as he sat. ‘ well you are just the sweetest, aren’t you? thank you. ’ she nodded. ‘ i wouldn’t say it’s fun, but the night could most certainly be worse, are you having fun? ’ she sipped her drink and crossed her legs as she gazed around the room.

“i still don’t get why you couldn’t trust timothée with clarissa.” it wasn’t like he had picked his kids’ nanny, she had the addison seal of approve. she was hardly a teenager who only wanted the money like the first candidate they had interviewed and mark thought she was a legit candidate. “they could have all stayed together tonight, the four or them. bonding you know. like you and me.” mark said with a chuckle as he raised his glass and made it clash with hers before taking a sip.

arizona rolled her eyes, ‘ well, our babysitter is just fine and timothée is a little...clingy at the moment so won’t go to just anyone. they spend plenty of time together as it is, so it’s not like they’re missing out mark. ’ she nudged his arm with hers and smiled, she had grown to love him over the last few years but he was still one of the most annoying people that she had ever met. ‘ we aren’t bonding, mark. ’ she clinked glasses with him and sighed contently as she felt the buzz of the alcohol starting to hit her.

joanna nodded along, she adored sofia and had met their youngest when she and gwen brought the twins up to visit. the three had been very close in age, both sets of mother’s tired and going through almost the same steps. “imagine if you told the two of us ten years ago we’d be married with kids now.” she said joking, remembering the days, before callie and gwen, when she and arizona would bar hop together and pick up women, being the ultimate wingwoman for each other. “you know, i recall you having a love for florida sun, maybe do something with the kids? i think lucy is planning a trip out with jamie soon. we miss you too.” she leaned back in her chair and picked up her drink. “miami is good, a very generous group of donors, made it possible for the hospital to open one of the first innovative medicine departments in the country. i couldn’t be better, i have my babies and my wife. i’m sure you know the feeling.” she smiled wide. 

arizona nodded and shrugged her shoulders a little, when she first arrived in seattle she spent a lot of time with joanna and now here they were. she was right, she would’ve never imagined that she would be here. ‘ florida sun, mmm, yes. we should definitely all go out, maybe when the littles are a bit bigger. ’ arizona raised a brow with a slight smile at the mention of miami, she was glad that it was all going well for her friend and she had it pretty good in seattle too. ‘ we really are lucky ladies aren’t we? we’re honestly living our best lives. ’ arizona raised her glass again and shot a smile at her friend as she looked around the room. ‘ cheers to us. ’

carina leaned in so that her arm was pressed against arizona’s and she could follow her eyeline better. “i wish i was the wife,” she said ruefully, although this conversation was making the event much more entertaining. “good one. okay… she is- waiting for the chance to run away with her salsa instructor. but her husband is rich and gives her many many presents. but they haven’t slept together since the last baby was born. they are heading for divorce.”

‘ if you wanted to have fun, you could you know. ’ arizona dipped her drink with a slight chuckle. she couldn’t help but laughs at the last sentence, having sex when you had a small child wasn’t easy and suddenly it felt all too real for a moment. her and callie hadn’t gone completely sex free but they definitely weren’t having it as much lately. she sighed and pointed to herself. ‘tell me about me...’

It felt like a weird hostage situation, but everyone seemed to be enjoying the alcohol. Jo included. “Here, here.” She took a sip from her own glass that she had grabbed earlier at the bar. “I’d never torture Daisy by dragging her to one of these things. Not until she’s receiving her own award, of course.” The statement was said with confidence, as if there couldn’t possibly be another future outcome. “How’s your evening?”

arizona laughed at jo, ‘ bright and shiny? sure, of course. ’ she sipped her drink and nodded in agreement. she would also never bring her kids to anything like this, it wouldn’t be fair, if she was bored they would be even more bored. ‘ hmm, how’s my evening? well i could be at home watching american bake off with a glass of wine on the couch and then i could be going to bed with my hot, hot wife...in an ideal world, of course... ’ arizona laughed and leant back slightly. ‘ and how’s your evening? ’

“Robbins, you look beautiful.” Cormac handed Arizona a glass of champagne as he approached her and raised his glass to her before taking sips of it and looking up at the projected screens with various pictures from Seattle Grace being shown, shaking his head at one with a couple of his patients on it. “I’m not saying that I’m nervous about leaving the residents in charge of our patients tonight, but.. yes that’s actually exactly what I’m saying. Do you think they can handle themselves? i did catch one of them staring blankly at blood sample vials the other day confused which label went on which vial… to say I’m concerned would be an understatement.”

arizona smiled at her long time friend and colleague, he had a point but she was a little more optimistic than him. ‘ you need to have a little bit of faith in them, i’m sure they have absolutely everything under control and if they don’t well — then we get to leave? ’ there was almost a tone of hopefulness in her voice at the possibility of being able to leave, even if it was to bail out incompetent residents. ‘ i really don’t think there is anything to worry about... ’ so convincing arizona, well done.

arizona raised a brow at the other woman and flagged down a waiter to grab another drink. she needed to be drunk, five minutes ago. a glass of champagne was brought to her and she all but downed it in one go, she had barely drank since having her youngest so it was all going to her head a lot faster than expected. ‘ so he...he’s got a wife, she’s at home, didn’t want to come to this boring event, two kids, no — three kids, two girls and a boy, all in high school. he’s sleeping with a lady that’s ten years younger than him and he hates his job. ’ she turned and pointed to another random person. ‘ that one, go. ’

joanna laughed and turned towards her table neighbor. her nerves about leaving the twins and not having her nose buried on her phone decreased through the night. she knew that they would be perfectly fine when her and gwen got home, even if she still didn’t trust her in law 100%. “i would agree, except mine is my mother in law, and they’re in miami. i have a gut feeling.” she shrugged, when she got a better look at the woman, her smile doubled. “well, if it isn’t the battleship, herself. how are the wife and munchkins?” bumping the other’s shoulder with her own. it had been years since she had seen arizona, and even longer since she saw callie. they had been good friends back in the day, and jo had consulted and joined the blonde in the OR a few times.

arizona laughed as she waited for joanna to realise that it was her speaking and when she finally did, the smile on her face matched the brunette’s. ‘ it’s me, the one and only. wife and kids are fine, callie’s around here somewhere and the kids are with the babysitter, it’s so strange having two of them but we love it. ’ arizona spoke honestly, she adored her babies and she would protect them with her life if she had to. ‘ and how about you? how is everything in miami? i miss you guys and i want to hug those babies and now i’m mad at you for not bringing them with you and sneaking them in to see their auntie arizona. ’ it was partly a joke, arizona just loved babies now, she couldn’t even think about the time when she hadn’t wanted them.

carina had found her rightful table eventually, but for lack of good conversation she was merely fidgeting with a napkin. she had yet to achieve the beautiful oragami of a swan - it looked more like a rejected cgi model from cats. she looked up when someone sat at the table next to her. at last, someone she knew. “i wouldn’t know. tonight i say thank god for free champagne.”

arizona laughed and raised her glass once again, ‘ that’s definitely something that i can say cheers to. i think that it’s honestly the only thing that’s going to get me through the evening, i almost want to go home to my kids and that’s saying something so i think i definitely need to drink more. ’ she loved her kids more than anything in the world but everyone needed a break from time to time, her included.
