i love how whenever something gets popular the underground tormented avant garde bloggers start becoming self conscious of liking it/finding it funny, and it eventually evolves into aggression towards it. doesnt matter what it is. unrelated but i saw someone call isopods cringe today

James Baldwin: The Last Interview And Other Conversations
Police fuckery update: An SPD officer threatened a local livestreamer who has been covering the Seattle protests for weeks by saying “we have your address” while he was filming them. The streamer, being reasonably upset at this, tried to film the cop who threatened him while saying “that’s the officer that said ‘we have your address, we’re gonna ticket you!’ Yeah, ‘we have you address.’”
The cop, identified as one Officer Richardson, got out of his car, approached the streamer, and ARRESTED HIM FOR THREATENING AN OFFICER BY REPEATING THE COP’S OWN WORDS.
Of course, the streamer, Brad Fox, got it all on camera and the video is now on Twitter. You can hear the cop saying “you said ‘we have your address’” and “I’m gonna take that as a threat” because he arrests Fox.
He was released two hours later without being charged because this was clearly bullshit and another case of retaliation against a journalist/streamer. Fox had filmed the SPD arresting another journalist, a Black woman, YESTERDAY, after she had been literally standing on the sidewalk and doing nothing. They claimed she was a suspect in a homicide investigation but later released her without charges.
The SPD is angry that they’re about to be defunded by 50% and retaliating against the very people showing the world that they deserve it and more. They’ve been attacking protesters on a nearly daily basis. I’ve been spending most of my internet time on Twitter lately to keep up but I reach a lot more people on here. Spread this shit to all ends of the Earth.
10 July 2020
Let’s be specific. They are attacking the MEDIA and MEDICS which is a nasty war tactic. They aren’t just mad. They are trying systematically destroy the protest by scaring and hurting them AND prevent the media from showing it.
We are protesting but they are acting like it’s war.
^^^ This is correct, they have also been targeting the volunteer medics. Both considered war crimes and are attempts to intimidate and silence protesters.
“We are protesting but they’re acting like it’s war”
ok scratch that actually my favorite headcanon is that its an open secret in westeros that everyone thinks jaime is gay. i mean think about it…… he matches his outfits with his sister, he joined a celibate organization right around the time he’d start coming into his sexuality, he doesn’t even go whoring like basically every other member of so called celibate organizations……
when the word gets out that he was having an affair with cersei everyone in westeros is like “lmao sure ok 🙄 and i bet renly was too lol”
HELLO???

Hey I may be getting more than I bargained for but can I ask why people dislike Shatner? I never payed much attention to stuff outside the actual shows but now I’m curious. I could probably google this but I wouldn’t know where to start and I think it’s more fun to hear these things from fans if you’re up for it!
I don’t like him because he’s extraneously and extremely rude to fans, and he’s always been homophobic (less as time passes but the Kirk being bi thing really relit it). Most people have their own opinions but that’s my beef with him in particular. I think there’s also a story of him betraying Leonard Nimoy basically for the money he could get from interviewing him, which I don’t like either.
@spicyranchtribbles yeah and doesn’t he routinely attack people when they tell him why it’s a bad organization
if people talked about anything else in the arts/humanities the way they talk about classic lit: “tchaikovsky isn’t relatable to ME and i think we should replace all the famous selections from swan lake and the nutcracker with semi-ironic circus music and/or watermelon sugar by queer icon harry styles”
I can't get over the fact that in Waltz Dukat tenderly nursed Sisko back to health and cooked for him while Sisko critiqued it with the funniest fucking odd couple dynamic and I know in Dukats mind it was a 50,000+ word stranded on a deserted planet, enemies to friends to lovers fic and in Sisko's mind it was pure unadulterated hell

seen a lot of these with your favorites, but reblog with the CURRENT book you are reading, show you are streaming, the last movie you watched, and any game/puzzle/crafts you’re working on
I've loved Star Trek for the longest time but as a non-white/poc trekkie...some of y'all make it so hard to stay involved in the franchise
It appears that tonight/this morning/the liminal space my brain currently finds itself operating within is No Sleep For Em Time, so buckle in lads! special mention (and apologies) to @punkspockispunkrock, who's tolerated my ranting with the patience of a saint and commiserated with me this evening
"If you're complaining about all of the problems then you're not a 'rEaL tRekKiE' are you???" first off: chinga tu madre. second off: I Don't Know How To Tell You That Media Won't Improve Unless We're Active In Pointing Out It's Biases
"" "" ""you're just being too PC" "" "" again, go suck your mother til she's dry. I have enough of racism in my day to day life, Lord knows I want make it so it's not in the media I consume too.
"Star Trek: the least problematic fandom." and the tendency to shout down any poc trekkies who want to open up a discussion about some of the problems in Star Trek.
Following on from above: see the brownface/antisemitism reflected in how Gene Roddenbery characterised the Vulcans/several instances of inherently Yikes™ portrayals of natives on other planets as either a) naive and innocently childish or b) bloodthirsty savages.
Gee, sure is strange that the one (1) character of colour in this Trek is only an ensign with maybe 15 minutes of screen time in the whole show! Qwhite Interesting™ how that turned out, huh?
See above: Harry Kim, Travis Mayweather, Hoshi Sato.
We had Deep Space Nine, a series about a Starfleet command post that had a black man in a position of seniority who absolutely destroyed the stereotype of the absent black father. Instead of talking about that bam! Colourism strikes again, because the only person of colour you're willing to talk about from the cast of DS9 is the lighter skinned Julian Bashir. THAT AIN'T IT CHIEF!
Michael Burnham was right there. Right there! Involved storyline, top-tier character development, literally the main character in Star Trek: Discovery... and yet the moment — the very nanosecond — you saw Pike and Ethan Peck's hot!Spock, you completely sidelined her in her own show. Smells like misogynoir to me, babes!
Strange New Worlds. I'm going to say it: We Know How It Ends. There are so many perspectives from other charaowe could have: Joann Owosekun's time growing up in a Luddite cult. The brilliant family comedy potential of "Travis Mayweather Just Wants One (1) Normal Day On His Dad's Goddamned Cargo Cruiser." The absolute hilarity that would be The Suite Life Of Jake Sisko And Nog. There are so many shows that could be written centering the stories and experiences of characters of colour! We don't need another WonderBread Trek!
"we need to recognise that antisemitism, racism & homophobia is present in Trek."
OK, coolio, here's a wild idea: actually listen to poc trekkies instead of shouting us down and naysaying over our voices all the time!
White trekkies feel free to reblog and share but do not clown on this post
