Back to School Stationery Haul

With the fall ‘16 semester starting next week for me, I decided to gather all the stationery that I’ve bought recently for a haul! ✨

Notebooks

Five Star Spiral Notebook: As I mentioned in a previous ask, FiveStar notebooks are one of my favorites to use because they’re so sturdy and well made. Plus, the pocket dividers are perfect to slip in handouts/homework into!

Yoobi College Ruled Notebook: If you want a cheaper alternative to Five Star, check out Yoobi notebooks! They’re also well made and support a great cause. Every time a Yoobi product is purchased, they donate an item to a US classroom in need!

Mead Student Planner: I’ve always been a fan of Mead planners, and the inspirational saying + gold & pink were too cute to resist!

Writing Supplies

Staedtler Triplus Fineliner Pens: After I bought my first 10-pack of fineliners last fall, I upgraded to a 20-pack :))

Muji Dual-Tip Pens: Excited to try out these pens (which are more marker-like) because you get 20 colors for the price of 10 pens!

Muji Eraser: Finally picked up the Muji eraser that everyone always raves about!

Sticky Notes

TARGET DOLLAR SPOT IS MY WEAKNESS.

I couldn’t resist the temptation of buying more sticky notes, look at how cute they are!!

The dollar spot changes pretty frequently, so it’s definitely worth looking around every time you visit Target :)

Drove up to Santa Barbara to go on a self-guided campus visit of UCSB. 

Such a beautiful campus with nice, relaxed vibes. I felt like I was visiting a resort!

I just started thinking about majoring in philosophy ... And I was just wondering if you can describe what it's like being a philosophy major and want interested you in being a philosophy major ? -💞

Hi anon! 💞 First of all, I’m so happy that you’re interested in majoring in philosophy! We’re an underrepresented major, so I love hearing about people being interested in philosophy :) It’s hard to tell you what it’s like being a philosophy major because that’s so subjective, but I can tell you this:

The most important thing is: Major. In. What. You. LOVE. (cliche I know, but stay with me for a moment) No matter what you end up majoring in, do it because it genuinely interests, motivates you to learn, etc. In short, major in what makes you h a p p y!

Because I’m not going to sugarcoat it, some/certain people will look down on you for majoring in philosophy. Every single day, I work hard for my grades. Nothing is “given” to me. Yet, one time this guy told me that he should have “majored in philosophy for all the easy A’s”. You will have to deal with this bs sometimes (other humanities majors back me up).

However, at the end of the day, all that does not matter. As I mentioned, if you choose your major because it makes you happy, who cares about what other people have to say? Those people have no right to tell you how to be happy. As long as you love your major, the pride that you have for it outweighs what any condescending jerk has to say about it.

Anyways, for me being a philosophy major is great because I go to class everyday, interested and passionate what I will learn about. Personally, what interested me was ethics. To really, and I mean really, simplify philosophy, it’s critical thinking, usually the “why?”. For example, in ethics, you study the different ethical theories to try and make sense of people’s actions, means vs. ends.

Also, I plan on going to law school after I graduate, so to me majoring in philosophy is a win-win because I love it and it’s a complementary major with law school.

hello friends!! so, i’ve been asked many, many times if i have tips for people wanting to start a studyblr or studyblr newbies. i had made a post similar to this one before but in this i aim to add more resources including help so you can add your own contributions to the community 💕

first things first, what is a studyblr?

okay basically a studyblr is a blog on tumblr focused mainly on studying + helping other people study. it is a community aimed at helping each other better ourselves in our academic lives! (this is an article about studyblrs)

types of studyblr

studyblr: quite generic, which encompasses most of the blogs that i’m going to mention all in one, including many tips and study photos and all of that!

langblr: a blog focusing on languages and learning them. it’s really amazing if you want to further your knowledge of a language, as well as talk to native speakers!

appblr: a blog mainly focused on university/college applications which gives a lot of help on the latter

there are also studyblrs focused on certain subjects, for example a medblr which medical students have as well as many others (and if you don’t think there’s a ‘blr’ for your subject, start your own thing!)

ok so a url will attract people to your blog

a lot of studyblrs have ‘their name’ + studies

however if your name is taken opt for something you like

maybe one of your favourite people in history

or some character that inspires you to study

or maybe something you wish to be

tbh anything goes here as long as people can understand it!!

anything you want and are good at!!

study music (+ on spotify too if you’d like)

masterposts

personal posts about your life and academia

printables

motivational quotes

+ whatever you like tbh the choice is yours, go crazy

JUST DON’T REPOST OTHER PEOPLE’S POSTS!! ask to use their photo and if they let you, credit them! do not copy masterposts and stuff to make them your own, it’s rude and will probably not help you with making friends.

other than that feel free to do whatever ayyy

what about bullet journals?

definition: The Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system. It can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, and diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above. It will teach you to do more with less.

you could also try another type of journal if bullet journals don’t work for you

if you want to get it, do it + by all means, enjoy it!

but is it a necessity? absolutely not

do not feel inferior if you do not have it

THE POINT OF STUDYBLR IS LEARNING, NOT BUYING EXPENSIVE STUFF OR SHOWING OFF!!

how do i get followers/make friends?

BE YOURSELF, you are going to be liked if you are authentic. trust me on this!

make your own contributions (as mentioned before)

create your own blog games such as blog rates, favourites pages, networks, etc!!!

use tags: many studyblrs have their own tag (for example mine is #areistotle) where people tag them and the mentioned studyblr will check the tag and reblog their post, which helps with spreading the post around, thus helping you gain more recognition!

don’t be afraid to message your favourite studyblrs or surprise them with a post about them (i get so happy when i see stuff like this in my tag, you have no idea how much you can brighten someone’s day up!)

if someone doesn’t respond, don’t hold grudges and let them be. there are so so many great people here!

also don’t get mad or take offense if someone doesn’t reply instantly (remember that many of us have exams and school and just life in general to deal with!)

be nice at all times and spread kindness. everyone deserves happiness and spreading positivity helps make the overall experience a better one!!
