Neal leaned back, running a hand through his hair, his heart racing at Herbie's words. “I’ll get there.”

Steve, Gregg and the night of the Hall of Fame ceremony.

One of the quotes I find most interesting about this band and their dynamics is from this interview with Gregg, where he talks about seeing Steve the night of the Hall of Fame ceremony. He sounds really angry, very bitter, and I’m not entirely sure why. It wasn’t the first time he said bad or harsh things about Steve, but that day he was especially... blunt.

He said some heavy stuff, like how Steve pretends to be open, but that he’s not really that person at all. Gregg claims to know this because he’s known Steve (intimately) for years.

Anyway, I suspect Gregg was angry because he wanted to talk to Steve that night and couldn’t, probably because Steve didn’t give him the chance. Gregg kept saying that Steve does everything behind closed doors, sneaking in and out, etc.

That night, when the band gets up onstage, you can see Gregg noticing Steve and start moving to see him…

Then you see Steve move too, he steps back enough to look at Gregg, and Gregg points at him, kind of like asking him to come over and hug him lol

Then they hug, and Steve goes to shake Ainsley’s hand (but that perv goes in for a hug instead), and finally, Steve goes back to Gregg. That touch doesn’t last long, it feels a little awkward.

After that, Steve touches Gregg’s shoulder briefly as Neal mentions Gregg’s name.

Gregg still looks tense. He smiles here and there, but only when Neal is around. By the time Steve gives his speech, Gregg’s looking pretty serious. We should also keep in mind Jon didn't want Gregg onstage with them that night so that adds to him feeling uncomfortable I guess.

In that interview I linked, Gregg is asked if he talked to Steve that night, and he says:

“No. Nobody talked to him! He does everything behind closed doors and I don’t get it.”

But that’s not true:

Steve did talk to Neal and his wife (Neal said they were “wrapping him in love”), he talked to Arnel, and even took pics with Ross, Jon, and their wives. So really, the only person he didn’t talk to… was Gregg.

And I think that’s what bothered Gregg. That’s why he was mad.

He said:

“Here I am talking to you. And aren’t I pretty simple to talk to? It’s me. All that nonsense that he goes through...”

So Gregg is basically saying, “Why couldn’t he talk to me?! It's just me!!” Lol.

Anyway, that’s my take on Bitter Gregg, Hall of Fame edition 😅
