Sorry for the silence. I’ve had really spotty internet access these past couple weeks. I’m safe for now, probably til the end of the month. I have a lot to think about. This is a really easy way to further help the #BlackLivesMatter movement! Youtuber Zoe Amira made an hour long video and all you have to do is play it on an ad-blocker free browser. All of the revenue generated from the video will be donated to different blm organizations depending on time of need. So if you’re at home and you’re busy with something else, this is really simple to do!

I’m overwhelmed. 3 days, and I’m already at 3/4 of my goal. I didn’t expect this.

I reached out to my mom for the first time in 2 years last night and didn’t get a response. I got a long text from a random number this morning that boiled down to saying not to contact them again and that this was Jehova’s way of punishing me. I guess it was my dad lol. In the past few days I’ve seen more kindness from strangers than I’ve ever gotten from my family. 

Doesn’t matter. I’ve survived through so much already. I’ll get through this too.

Hi everyone, I’m Asher. I’m 21, nonbinary, homeless and pregnant. This is incredibly embarrassing to post, but I can’t afford to be embarrassed anymore. I really need help.

I’ve been in an abusive relationship for three years. It has always been bad - I was completely dependent on him from the beginning. I had been kicked out of my parent’s house and had no money or support system when I moved in with him. He was so controlling. He never respected my identity. The few times I asked him to use they/them pronouns, he called me “it” in front of his friends instead. He didn’t want me to have a job, friends or any social media. He took my computer when he found my Facebook, smashed my phone on the ground after he got suspicious I was “cheating” because I was texting a friend he didn’t approve of (luckily I had an old backup). 

Two weeks ago, something big happened. I discovered I was pregnant. When he found out he tried to coerce me into taking random meds that he said would cause a miscarriage. When I refused, he got violent. He shoved me and I fell onto a metal dog crate, leaving bloody scratches on my arm and back. He told me he was done with me, that he never wanted to see me again and that I had a day to get my things and go. I was gone the next morning with a suitcase of clothes and the few personal belongings I had.

On one hand, I feel so incredibly relieved. I’m free. I can finally move on. But then the reality of my situation sinks in - I’m going to have a baby. By myself, with no place to call home. No money for rent, let alone diapers, formula, baby food… I’m trying to find work. It’s not easy right now, in the middle of the pandemic and with me being pregnant. I’m dangerously underweight and have asthma and chronic fatigue. There’s a terrifying lack of resources in my area for the homeless. I’m scared.

I’m currently staying with an acquaintance until June 5th; after that I’ll need to find somewhere to go. I’m trying to get enough money together to purchase a trailer so I can have a sustainable, affordable roof over my head, and to pay for things like food, transportation, prenatal vitamins and eventually newborn supplies. I hope with all my heart that I have a steady income and a place to live before my baby comes into the world, but until then, I’m asking for your help to get back on my feet. UPDATE JUNE 2

So, I was denied unemployment, but I was able to get on emergency food stamps. Crying tears of joy right now. It’s not much, but it means I won’t go hungry. 

My friend said I might be able to stay one extra day, but this is her parents’ house so it’s all up to them and they really don’t want an outsider here (which is understandable given the circumstances). It looks like a motel might be my only option but I don’t know of any that are still open nearby. 

Thank you so much to every single person who has shared and donated so far. It would mean the world to me if you kept spreading this post. I have 3-4 days before I am potentially out on the street. Please don’t let this die.
