Stepping through charred wood, dampened by rain that flowed freely without the barrier of a ceiling to stop it.
A cross, calmly looking over the destruction. Saved by its marble complexion.
Tall it stands, grand amongst the broken pews and the mumbling of bitter prayers.
The cross was cold, colder than the flames that devoured the ancient walls that were weakened with the wailing of sinners who begged for forgiveness.
For is this gods will? As his symbol is unscathed, our beliefs are unstable once more.
“The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.”
- Georgina W, ‘Notre Dame’
