Jester concepts and developmental sheets.
“Carmen, a lady of the night who works the streets of Caye Listra. She’s the supposed daughter of the Witch of Wicker. While it’s impossible for Witches to reproduce, it is assumed that Carmen is either adopted, or she was born before her mother became a witch. This would make Carmen thousands of years old.
She is one of the Cursed Ones, but she was inflicted with Pestis out of love, not of malice. She doesn’t want her mother to suffer the wrath of Might so she took on the responsibility of bearing Pestis’ weight.
Her curse allows her to weave life into dead living matter, whether it be plant or animal.
Carmen is a hunter, she wears a pelt of the yagé toad that she can reanimate at will during combat, or to scare off unwanted customers.”
“The Devils, the first known hosts of the Devil Masks and rumoured to be the ones who created them. They have long since died out due to the properties of the masks but thanks to the Yestermorrow, they roam our world once again curious as to why their masks have new masters.
They resemble witches in many ways, save for the horns that decorate their faces or the wood-like antlers that adorn their heads. They’re considerably stronger than the Witches as they can tap into the true power of the Devil masks.
Everyone will need to be prepared for their return to Solitur, because when they do, nothing in Caye Listra will be left standing, that includes the Witches.”
“The Yestermorrow, birthname Esther, referred to by the Jester as the Timetravelling Kleptomaniac with the Kaleidoscope Sunglasses, is an elusive Witch with no mask that wanders through time.
Thousands of years ago she was one of the few scientists who discovered and researched the Devil Masks found in the Valley of Dolls. She herself found one of these Dolls scattered miles away from the site, a tiny matryoshka-like doll with a pair of sunglasses inside. She stole these mystical glasses for herself and has been pulled to different times and dimensions ever since.
The only way to use the glasses is to steal an object from the time she’s sent to. The only way for her to return to her own time is to destroy the Devil Masks. To do this she needs to find new hosts for the masks so one of them can eventually curse an unsuspecting Jester with the power to ruin everything he touches... including the Devil Masks.”
“Fe’Oath, a lesser known witch in Caye Listra who rarely makes an appearance. She can form iron from nothing.
The blacksmiths in Caye listra revere her as the iron she supplies them with is used to smith swords for wars and rivets, nails and supports for construction. While this is all well and good, she later infects them with the Might created from forming this iron, cursing them so anytime they build, or fight, the iron shatters soon after, causing much distress to the townsfolk of Caye Listra.
While both Fe’Oath and Au’Oath are both witches, they are far from comrades. Locals say they battle anytime they see eachother. It is unknown as to why they do this. Many casualties have been caused from these sparrings, ruining their reputation as the “Godesses” they portray themselves to be.
Currently people rarely worship them anymore, yet they’re still able to roam the city, as everyone is too frightened to banish them.”
“Au’Oath, an enigmatic being that serves the Queendom of Caye Listra. Her Devil mask allows her to conjure gold from thin air. The downside to this ability is that it creates a corruptive energy called Might.
For Au’Oath to survive this destructive substance she must transfer this energy to a human host, in the form of a curse. Humans cursed by this energy are sufferers of Pestis.
It is unknown whether Au’Oath can understand human speech as she never talks. Locals say she just stands as a silent watchman protecting the Queen. Rumors even say the Queen herself may be part of Au’Oath’s coven, though it’s doubtful that this is true.
The only truth we know about Au’Oath is she’s not to be trusted.”
“A map of Caye Listra, the capital of Solitur. Unfortunately because of the Witches’ arrival, most of the archives depicting Caye Listra or the surrounding areas have been destroyed. I was able to salvage a fragment of the old map however. It only shows a small portion of the city, though part of the Queen’s prison palace can be seen in the top right-hand corner.
The key-like building near the center is where the Witches used to congregate, before the Yestermorrow interfered.
Before the Witches arrived, Caye Listra was a bustling city filled with ambitious, happy citizens... but poor ones. People were over joyed when the Witches arrived. Au’Oath brought wealth into the city, bestowing people with a life of luxury... for awhile. Fe’Oath provided iron, strengthening our walls, and soldiers... again, for awhile.
When the Wtiches’ Might started growing within people, infecting them with Pestis, everything was lost. It was a terrible plague that decimated half the population. It only stopped when the Witches stopped providing resources to the people.
Slowly, things began to flourish again. With a decreased population, food and water were aplenty, though nowadays the people know of the Witches’ wrath and what they’re capable of. Every few months someone still succumbs to Pestis, as the Witches still use their powers, but only rarely. Those who are infected with Pestis nowadays are cursed.”
“The Jester, entertainer the Queen and loved by many citizens of Caye Listra. He makes a living from being a fool, gaining much fortune due to Au’Oath’s gold manifestation abilities.
During one of his performances for the Queen and the townsfolk at the annual Endless Carnivale he’s secretly cursed by the Witch of War, Fe’Oath.
The curse states that anything the Jester touches shall turn to ruin.
After his performance, unknowing of the curse that has just been bestowed upon him he goes to kiss the Queen’s hand. When his lips touch the back of her hand it shatters, rendering the Queen in extreme agony.
This act sends everyone into a frenzy. The Queen orders for the Jester’s immediate execution, much to the dismay of the Jester obviously, who flees the scene.
This event sets in motion the story of Pestis.”
