LOGAN RIGBY:
âWell, like my mother used to sayââ He shifted in his seat, leaning forward slightly. â-itâs all about the teasing and not about the pleasing.â He gave him a small, suggestive wink, meant to subvert his own woes towards humor, as he usually did. He was never one to talk about his problemsâespecially with how petty they were, in the larger pictureâso openly, and despite how he mightâve trusted Peter not to judge him, it just wouldnât feel right to expose his turmoil in broad daylight when heâs barely been honest with himself. âWell, itâs a murder of sorts, if you wanna look at it poetically. But⊠no, nothing like that.â A pause. âAlso, youâre starting to creep me out, should I be the one worried about you?â
âWise words. Canât say Iâd live by them though. I just aim to please.â Peter commented with a small smile, catching on how that was his friendâs attempt of steering his predicament to something that can only be taken lightly so as to lessen the weight on his shoulders. It was something that Peter would do every time his friends (or his therapist) would have the gall to take a step over the line of questions that should only be asked. At the sound of Loganâs question though, the blond put up his hands in mock defense. âHey, my hands are clean. Iâm just saying I probably wonât report you right away if itâs murder-- but only if you have a good reason. I figured thatâs how friendships work, right?âÂ
BERTIE HUMBLE:
Bertie looked up from where he had sat patiently waiting for his new friend to finish with his session without much bother. It was nice to take an hour out of his day to do nothing but sit and think, in all honesty. His phone had died after the first twenty minutes as heâd forgotten to charge it the previous evening so he had nothing but his mind to keep him company. Oh, and the occasional person who thought he was waiting for his own session because of the stutter in his words when he greeted them. He jumped to a stand when Peter suggested they leave and he hung his rucksack over his shoulder and followed. âH-how did it g-g-go?â he asked as they walked.Â
âShitty.â Came Peterâs automatic response, already expecting the question to be tossed his way. It was always the first thing his sister would ask him after every session and he meant it every time. âBut my therapist burned some sweet incense so that was nice.â He added with a mildly impressed tone as he naturally took lead of where theyâre heading next, knowing that Bertie will just let him. âHeâs more tolerable than the last one. I just slept with my last therapist since he was apparently better at that than actually doing his job.â Though he only did that to shut the older man up and it unsurprisingly worked. Some people are just weak, Peter believed.
ALEX MATTHEWS:
âI know. I already got the lecture from my fatherâ he replied as he took a sip of the coffee, âI donât like apples, unless they are in desserts. You know you are a life saver rightâ
Peter clamped his mouth shut, realizing that he may have been nagging which wouldnât be new. He did that a lot to his sister. âYeah, well, I donât think Prudence would forgive me if she finds out that I just let her favorite artist wallow in pain.â
LIBBY RIGBY:
It was people such as himself that made Libby feel a little sick inside. She understood his apprehension if heâd come across scammers before, but she certainly wasnât a scammer, and despised the fact that he thought that she might be. âE-Excuse me?â She sighed, shaking her head. âYou know whatâ if you actually think Iâd allow my work to host something that wasnât legitimate then.. you can just walk away and pretend this didnât happen. Weâve held events like these for three years, now.. but if you donât want to see what itâs about then, I-I hope you have a good day.â She smiled, softly.
âDonât blow a gasket now.â Peter looked down at her, unperturbed by how defensive she had suddenly gotten. This canât be the first time someone expressed some form of suspicion of her work, can it? It seemed like it though in spite of having been doing this for three years. People must have been far too soft on her then. âIâm not saying I donât want to see what itâs about. I just want to be reassured that my money isnât just going to someone elseâs pocket. No harm in that, yeah?â
PHILIP VOGEL:
Slowly â as if any movement of the sort of agonizing (a total over dramatic reaction) â Philip raised the hot cup, placing the rim against his dry lips. With a slight rush of air to cool the surface, Lip took his first sip.
Coffee. It was a true blessing. A fuel that Philip loved to no limit.Â
A satisfied sigh slipped out through his lips, eyes shutting at the caffeine running through his veins. âGod, I needed thatââÂ
At the comment made by the friendly face, Philipâs eyes opened once more. His expression was neutral, knowing that Peter was in the right. However, when would Lip never drink himself to utter ruin? ââŠThat sounds like a really sad weekend to me, man. Getting shitfaced is a good time. In the momentâ that is.â
âYou say that, yet not only am I the one who's feeling perfectly fine right now, I had a pretty productive weekend to boot.â His words werenât entirely true. In spite of his advice to his friend, Peter didnât exactly do much during the weekend. He didnât get to write anything for the book that he was supposed to be working on and he didnât drink the medications he was supposed to be taking. If anything, he just spent his weekend nursing his headache away and crying like a pathetic child in his room.
But nobody needed to know that.
He knew hiding his depression will end up being pointless soon enough though. Some of his friends have already pointed out the dark circles under his eyes and the significant weight loss heâs had for the past month. Just thinking about that made the blond backtrack his words.
âOkay, that was a lie. I didnât really do much. My weekend was unbearably boring.â
EZRA BLAKE:
Ezra sighed softly in relief, though in actuality he was more worried about revealing things about himself than pissing off Peter. âYou mean I didnât say nothinâ bout no girls?â he asked with a sheepish laugh, finally taking a few long sips from the cup of coffee. âWhat on my mind that got me drinking, huh? Just girls. I feel funny admitting that, like I know I ainât seem like the type to get this messed up over girls but I guess I am, at least sometimes⊠anyways, I owe you one, mkay?â he said with a smile.
âIâm not surprised. Thatâs usually the reason why some of my friends drink as well.â Peter knew that he wasnât the most ideal person to be talking to about women but maybe Ezra didnât know that. It was never a topic of conversation between them after all. He found it a waste of time to be concerning oneself over relationships-- potential or not. Especially when every relationship will always find its demise sooner or later. âWanna talk about it?â He offered anyway. Whatever problem Ezra was having, maybe it could spark a storyline for the author.
FINN LEWIS:
âBatDaddyâ Holy fuck,â Finn murmured for himself, shaking his head and tightening his eyes as he both tried to simultaneously forget and remember the night before, which only gave him an even worse headache. He couldnât hold too much of a laugh when Peter gave him the description of the guy. âWell, what can I say, Iâve always liked them kind of older anyway,â he joked, though his voice sounded bitter and so did the laugh that came afterwards. He then reached blindly for his coffee and took a sip that burned his tongue, but ignored it. âFuckinâ New York. Not even one month and itâs already messing up my reputation.â
âI donât even know which part I should be fascinated by. The fact that itâs actually possible for you to go for someone who calls himself BatDaddy or how good of a liar I am. Either way, Iâm impressed.â Peter isnât really fascinated by the latter since heâs gotten the hang of lying a lot, but he definitely is surprised that his friend would go for a guy like the one he just described. He raised a brow at the thought of Finn going for older guys though, wondering just how old heâs implying here but then Peter figured it wasnât his business to ask. At least not now when the guy was already having a hard time tolerating a hangover.Â
ADRIANNE THIMOTHY:
Adri noticed the strange behaviour but decided to both keep their interaction short as well as to not mention the inability to look at her. âYeah,â she nodded her head and stood a little straighter, cupping her hand around the hot mug of coffee. Before she replied, the blonde took a small sip and sighed aloud. âIt was for a part in an upcoming movie. I was supposed to be the drunk sister, funnily enough.â
âI could definitely see you as the face of alcohol intoxication.â Peter quipped with a short breath of a laugh. He recently had an offer of using one of his novels for another film adaptation and while he still hasnât signed up for anything yet, maybe it could be of use for his companion. Unfortunately enough, he wouldnât be able to promise her anything. âWell, are you interested in perhaps... taking part in a horror film?â
CASEY MITCHELL:
He leaned forward, slightly, so he could take a better look at the otherâs face, as it seemed that he was occupied with his thoughtsâ whatever they were. âYouâre not listening,â he whined. âYou usually like to listen when I tell you about Pablo, but now youâre not listening, and Iâm thinking maybe something is wrong.â He paused, squinting at his friend. âIs there something wrong?â
Peter had already grown accustomed to the younger manâs whining but with the headache that he was having at that very moment, it was hard for him to stay patient. But still, the last thing he needed was to freak out on someone again. âJust a headache.â The blond finally responded after a pause. âMaybe if you talk any less for once, itâll go away.â Shit. That was just supposed to stay in his mind. âFuck, sorry. That was uncalled for."
JASON GREY:
âExcuse me can you please grab that paper before the wind blows it awayâ Jason asked a random stranger as he ran after one page of his reports that had gotten lose from his binder
Peter bent down to pick up the piece of paper, thinking that he should just might as well instead of pretending he didnât hear the guy like he would usually do. âHere.â He handed the paper over. âItâs a bit wet though. Hopefully it isnât something too important.â
VERONICA SPENCER:
âMy parents bought me this enormous canvas portrait to hang at my new place, but Iâm not sure how I feel about it.â Veronica was staring down at her phone, looking down at the portrait and imagining where would be the best place to put it. âI feel like it would just take up way too much space⊠but they were so happy when they gave it to meâŠâ Veronicaâs voice trailed off as she turned her phone screen towards the person next to her, showing off the portrait. âWhat do you think?â
âIt looks pretty cool to me.â Peter commented as he took a good look of the picture displayed on his friendâs phone. He had something similar back at home, though it was his sister who bought it and he really couldnât say no to her without genuinely feeling bad. âYou can hang it on the wall over your couch. Thatâs where my sister put up ours and sheâs an exceptional self-proclaimed interior designer.â
LOGAN RIGBY:
âI wanna think itâs worth it, but thatâs probably not the best thing to say right now.â He lowered the cup back onto the saucer heâd taken it from, then leaned against the soft cushion of the booth. The sun was unfiltered in its blinding glory through the large glass windows, and he closed his eyes for a moment, allowing himself a couple of seconds in repose as he tipped his head back just slightly. The other maleâs question had slowly brought him back to the conversation, though the answer escaped him. No, he knew why, he just didnât think it would be something heâd be open to admitting out loud, as it was mostly just kept confined within the solace of his head. âItâs a long story.â He waved a hand to dismiss the thought, hoping Peter wouldnât push any further because he wouldnât know what to say then. âLetâs just leave it at me getting shitfaced on a weekday and having to suffer the consequences.â
To say that his friendâs answer disappointed him would be a great understatement. Peter could already tell that the guy was going through something way more crucial than just âa long storyâ and this certainly caught his interest. For all he knew, it could be a rather peculiar obstacle that could spark a storyline for his new book. The blond was still in the midst of searching for an inspiration after all and while heâs met a lot of fascinating people, he needed something fresh and unprecedented. However, after eyeing Logan for another second or two, Peter knew that this wasnât the right time to push. He will get that story soon enough though. âYou sure know how to leave a guy intrigued.â He sighed anyway, not masking his disappointment as he took another sip from his drink. âItâs not like Iâm in any place to judge you for whatever your reason is-- unless it has something to do with murder. Thatâs where I draw the line. Or maybe not.â
EZRA BLAKE:
Ezra blinked for a while at the drink, alarmed for a moment when his vision seemed wonky til he realized his change in depth perception was actually because Peter had moved the cup closer. âO-Oh. Thank you kindly, Peter, I appreciate this,â he finally said before moving to just hold the cup in both his hands, sighing at the warmth. âI wasnât⊠lookinâ for nothinâ in particular,â he laughed weakly, though he still felt bad for breaking his rule about drinking - to never drink when youâre sad. âDid I⊠say anything unnecessary to you?â
âNothing that would piss me off.â Peter reassured him, finding it even hard to imagine Ezra saying anything that would remotely provoke him. Peter has always been the type to have quite the short temper and among all the people he knew, Ezra was the only exception when it came to actually witnessing this said temper of his. The guy has just never pushed any of his buttons yet. And hopefully itâll stay that way. âWhat got you drinking anyway? Something on your mind?â
AVA REYES:
âThank you,â Ava said with a little smile as she peered down at the friend who had doubled over and seemed to be miserable. Ava shifted awkwardly as she eyed Peter for a moment. âMaybe I should go, I didnât want to bother the both of you. I just noticed that he seemed in pain and âââ her shoulder feel momentarily as she glanced down, cheeks flushed. âWell, I hope that everything goes better with you and your friend. And that you both have a really good day.â
âYouâre gonna leave me with this guy?â Peter jutted his thumb at his friendâs direction, a small amused smile gracing his lips. There was something endearing with the way the young woman shifted awkwardly-- she reminded him of a certain character in one of his books. âYouâre not a bother at all anyway. I donât think heâs gonna be talking to me anytime soon. Not until his hangover goes away. You can stay if you have nothing better to do.âÂ
