[ steph walked alongside him, scrolling through her phone. even if it had all her pictures on it, it didn’t seem as interesting as pete. she glanced over at him, smiling at him. she put her phone in her pocket, reaching out her hand as confidently as she could. ]
“ hey, dweeb. what class did you say you were missing…? ”
“Ap calculus”
he takes her extended hand, nervously. “ where are we headed?”
“ …right. i dunno, honestly. i just kinda felt like walking. i know what i’m doing in the class i’m missing, anyways. i’ll probably end with a c average. ”
“I can help you with your work again? If you wanted.” He pauses “ we could head to beanies?”
“ yeah! why don’t we go to beanies? going for a walk would probably be more fun anyways. ”
[ she rubbed her thumb up against the back of his hand, slowly. just to test out the waters— seeing if he was okay with it. ]
“ alright. Let’s head out then.”
“ promise you’re not gonna freak out and yell at the workers again? ” [ she joked, poking fun at how he reacted when the workers at beanies forgot his order. ]

“ alright. “ he orders for them both, sitting over at his favorite table “ normally I have to wait for forever but. With you here that time probably won’t be so annoying.”
[ steph smiles, sitting across from him and staring into his eyes lovingly. she got so lost in thought she had completely forgotten where she was, and everything else besides him. ]
He smiles back, somewhat awkward but completely genuine.
“Are we dating? Officially, I mean” he blurts out. Better to ask the question sooner than later right?

[steph walked towards the tree that she told pete to meet up at. she had done her hair, a messy bun with some curly strands hanging out. she was wearing a green dress, that was slightly more formal than the red dress she had worn to pasqualli’s, with a flannel for warmth. she had black heels on, that obviously were too uncomfortable for her to walk in. so long as she looked pretty… so long as she looked like a lauter.]
“…hey, pete!”
he spotted Steph, smiling “ hey! thanks for coming “ he said, awkwardly because he doesn’t know what he’s doing
“…hi!” [she said, awkwardly playing with her flannel. she was avoiding his gaze, but not out of discomfort. it was something… strange. probably anxiety, cause pete didn’t help finish her spanish homework. yeah, it was the spanish homework. not how cute he looked in that oversized suit, or how happy he sounded to see her.]
“ you look nice.” He paused , noticing a trace of discomfort in Steph’s tone “ you alright?”
