-Peter's eyebrows rise in surprise, rolling over the young man's words in his head, noting his blush. He begins to wonder if maybe he has an ulterior motive with this whole "you could be a model" thing, but he doesn't utter his suspicions aloud. He knows better than to jut outright assume- You think so? I mean, if it helps me pay the bills, I'd be more than willing to try it. What is that you do, anyway?

A Late Lunch || Peter & Hazel

“Oh, thank God”-he raised his hand to his heart, feigning relief as he let out a little sigh-“I was sincerely worried I’d just ran you off for good!” Peter laughed, a grin seemingly permanent on his face now.

“No, no. I can’t do that. Just the simple things I thought I could take a guess on and just happened to be right.” Peter chuckled. “I’m not a creeper, I promise!” At her “covered in chocolate” comment, he couldn’t help but tease, “Is that your way of telling me you’re one of those girls who’s just ‘uugh, gimme chocolate!’”

Peter’s smile was understanding, amused, as she explained her and giving people’s nicknames. “No need for explanation. I was only teasing a bit. I don’t mind Petey as long as you’re the only one calling me that. Anyone else, and it would just rub me the wrong way.” Peter appeared thoughtful for a moment before nodding. “I’m going to call you Haze, then. It’s not too bad, right? And sure. Plenty of people give themselves nicknames. I bet that’s how half of these rappers get their names!”

“We’ve got two more corners to turn, and then we’re there,” he told her as they rounded the first one.

“You’re not a creeper? Well, now I’m disappointed.” Hazel tilted her head up a bit, letting out a laugh at the thought of him standing outside her window as a typical creeper would do. It would sure be something to write about. “No, Peter the creep, I am not one of those girls who drools at the sight of chocolate,” she looked smugly over at him before she continued her sentence, “I’m one of those girls who drool at the sight of anything with sugar.”

Hazel nodded along as he explained his version of it, it made sense to her but she hadn't exactly taken it seriously to begin with. For some reason, the brunette really enjoyed talking. A lot. “You’d be fine, I would be there to rub you the right way again.” She smirked one of her infamous smirks at him, letting the sexual innuendo roll off her tongue, well aware of how it sounded.

“Haze is fine. I’ll respond to Haze.” The woman smiled softly, it had been long since she heard that nickname even if had been one of the most common ones when she lived at home. Not used by her parents of course, but her beloved friends. “Two more corners,” she repeated, “I think I’ll survive that.” Hazel nudged his side with her shoulder. “And if I don’t, you’ll be a gentleman and give me a piggyback ride, right?”

Peter threw his head back and barked out a laugh. It wasn't that funny, but the answer just took him by surprise. He had been expecting something, but it wasn't that. "First I ask such an absurd question as 'what is your favorite ice cream' and then I'm not a creeper. Clearly, I'm just not the guy that's supposed to be your friend!" He chuckled. "Anything with sugar. I'll remember that. I'm thinking that'll be the easiest way to get you to do favors. I'll just buy lots of sweets."

The reaction to her words was immediate. His eyes went darker, and his pupils grew larger in size as he imagined just how well she'd "rub him the right way." It was impossible for his mind to not immediately go to sex, picturing every way in which he'd like her to rub him right, and by the smirk on Hazel's face, she knew it. Just when he thought he couldn't like the young woman more, she goes and throws that curve ball at him.

And as he pondered over her words, his next ones fell easily off his lips. They made him cringe and inwardly kick himself in the ass. They sounded so embarrassingly lame even to his ears: "Added bonus: I've been told I'm sweet as sugar, so maybe rubbing me the right way isn't the only thing you'd do."

And then, as if it wasn't already bad enough, he winked at her. It amazed him how he was once considered such a smooth talker.

"If I'm Peter the Creep, you're Haze the Babe, and that's final," he joked, recalling the little name from minutes ago. "But okay, Haze it is." Peter nodded, snickering. "Yes, I'll give you a piggyback ride, but only if you said please, of course. Only nice girls get piggyback rides," he teased.

A Late Lunch || Peter & Hazel

“Oh, dear. I should have known! I do hope you can find it in yourself to forgive me and my utter foolishness,” Peter muttered, going along with her mock-outrage. It was all he could do not to laugh. “You are correct in your words. How dare I ask such a thing?”

He chuckled at her answer and nodded. “Yeah, you can. Honestly, I expected you to come up with some crazy flavor that no one likes or has never even heard of it”-he grinned-“but that works, too.” When she turned the question back on him, he shrugged; the answer was easy. “Strawberry. I’d eat whatever was given to me because ice cream, but I’d be slightly disappointed if there was no strawberry ice cream.”

“You know what?” he began, a thought occuring to him. “This is the second time you’ve called me ‘Petey.’ I wasn’t aware that our relationship had gotten to the nickname phase.” He grinned again, not at all complaining. “Maybe I should start calling you Zel. Or maybe Haze. Or whatever you decide because I suck at coming up with things like that, to be honest. It’s such a burden.”

Hazel’s hand rose to her cheek, tapping it playfully as if she had to think of forgiving him or not. Smugly looking over at him, she burst out in a wide smile. “I think I can find it in my heart to forgive you.” She winked playfully at him. It just was something about him and the way he went along with her lame jokes. Not to mention the way he could almost read her.

“I’m glad I can surprise you then, nothing would’ve been creepier if you could foresee everything I’ll say and do.” Hazel wrinkled her nose at the thought, he seemed to be figuring her out and even though it was cute, it also scared her. She didn’t want to be predictable. “Strawberry is a good choice but I prefer them as they are or preferably covered in chocolate.”

While she intently listened to his thought, she realized that not all people gave other people nicknames straight away. Had it been too pushy of her? Hazel was so used to stepping into people’s life that it hadn’t even occured to her that the concept might have been strange to others. “I tend to give people nicknames fairly quick. Maybe because I’ve never really stayed at one place for a long time so the process has been quicker.” She shrugged slightly as she tried putting it into words: finding it difficult. “You may come up with a nickname for me if you’d like but I can’t give you the answer, people aren’t supposed to give themselves nicknames.”
