well, i think my suggestions were pretty good. joint custody of the baby with a side of taco bell. i’ll even let you pay this time. ( * the idea of her paying seems like a losing battle, and she decides to go along with it, at least for now. looking up at him, she shrugs softly. ) i’ve never really been the type to make resolutions, although your’s seems pretty good. you can’t make any worse decisions than the rest of the population, but it never hurts to try. ( * another grin appears on her lips, and she looks back up at the sky. ) well, new year new you, right?

( * huffs quietly, bringing a hand to his lips ) you’re right, it doesn’t. i don’t see why someone with your mindset wouldn’t make a resolution then. ( * hints a smile ) we’ll see just how new i get in, oh... ( * glances at the timer illuminating in the sky ) ten seconds. ( * glances at her from his peripheral with a continued smile ) wanna count down?

( * she’s spent countless new years looking up at the sky from the school grounds, marveling at the light show above her, taking in everything and looking forward to a new beginning. jisoo walks up to him, smiling as widely as usual as she taps him on the shoulder ) any new year’s resolutions? ( she never makes them, because she knows the dangers of making promises she can’t keep. but it never hurts to hear them from others, and it’s different when it’s someone she cares about. ) maybe take jisoo to taco bell more often? be a good parent to our dog?

do you think so lowly of me that i’d have to rely on a worldly promise to make those things happen? i thought you knew me better than that. ( * feigns a pained expression, raising his hand to his heart ) i never really thought to come up with any. ( * it was true. things had never really gone according to how he ever wished, so he stopped, deciding at 15 that a doomed life wouldn't change by desire ) but since you asked, ( * hums, a soft grin tugging at his lips as he turns his head to face her ) i don’t know. to make better decisions, i guess. be better. what about you?

(/ the beat slows slightly, then he taps his friend’s arm repeatedly, still merry, shaking his head as if in pure disbelief ) this beat is pure quality, man. pull over, pull over–i cannae jam prop’rly (/ points vaguely to a dark spot on the road beside them )

( * once it hit him that he no longer had any grip on the wheel, his foot grew heavy on the accelerator after sheer panic struck. before the car flew off the edge, peter slammed the breaks and halted the car on the incline ) man-- ( * laughs nervously, blinking slowly ) that was close. wait, ah, fucking hell, i dropped my phone. ( * sighs and reaches below his seat, oblivious to the fact that he never lifted the hand brakes )

she unwraps her taco, taking a bite of it and smiling contentedly. “you know, diamonds are rocks, but i doubt you want that, considering you won’t even let me buy you fast food.”

“just poking a little fun.” he let loose a chuckle. figuring he’d drop the game early so as to refrain from unnecessarily stretching the joke too far, he threw away any idea of tossing any other stirring comments. 

“diamonds? could you even imagine me owning one of those? maybe i’ll weasel my way into a band of thieves and acquire one in a ‘die hard’ fashion. it’d make for a cooler story, wouldn’t it?” 

danger had taken a particular interest in peter ever since he was a kid. despite the amount of jokes he cracked to lessen certainties, he couldn’t shake the encounters. he hadn’t lost his life yet.

( ` clicks her tongue, arms crossing over chest as she looks off ) well what if i decide to give it to you next year instead huh! what then. no one told you to start fights and kiss your exes and yet. ( ` eyes him ) 

( * presses his lips together ) wasn’t me. blame it on the alcohol. ( * frankly, he was a bit disturbed at her accusation; he almost wanted to abandon putting any kind of hard liquid near his lips at the idea of reliving that nightmare--almost ) doesn’t matter to me, i’d still give you your gift no matter what. ( * grins cheekily )

{ ` how he wishes to have recorded that. instead, he narrows his eyes at the other male } right. { ` he foregoes politeness for a friendly warning instead; peter doesn’t seem like he’d listen to yixing otherwise anyway } if you really are over it, then you wouldn’t be so bitter about it. so get over it. stop bothering my g– { ` he cuts himself off then } krystal. then maybe you’ll be a little more convincing.

just because i’m not particularly fond of talking to you doesn’t mean i’m bitter. i’d be a hypocrite to say that i never was. for a long time, i was. a year and a half kind of does that to you. maybe when you get up to that point, and it sinks in how lucky someone could be to have her, you’ll understand. ( * he huffs at this, dubious as to why the snake refused to go with the title ) already done. ( * circumstances were hard enough with his own childish restlessness; making himself a blimp on yixing’s radar would worsen things, and by unfortunate design, he would have to suffer with krystal not being on his side. he was exhausted ) she made it clear enough. i don’t think i need to hear it twice.

i know what the reason is. { ` he can’t hide how displeased he is about this; not in the way he frowns, or the thin line his lips have become because someone is smoking too much in the quidditch pitch. nowhere is safe, it seems } i just want to hear it from you while you’re sober.

you’re doing what? ( * another yawn escaped his lips as he struggled to get his coat on. it was like a tidal wave hit jisoo. he’d never been roused from his sleep with such vigor before. he rubbed his eyes, sloppily slipping his glasses on as he rushed to catch up to her ) 

( * truth be told, he was pretty exhausted. weary and drained from traveling to krystal’s, which didn’t end well per usual. no use stressing over it, nor getting jisoo, who’d been an unfortunate topic of their conversation, more involved )

look, that one looks like you, ( * beams, smiling brightly as he tapped the glass ) i’m gonna steal one of ‘em.

why do you care? ( * mumbles, taking a longer drag of it than usual ) don’t act you don’t know what the reason is, yixing. we’ve had our go at it at the ball, and i’m sure you weren’t drunk enough to forget me socking you in the face. ring any bells yet?

his mind swirled with ideas--all burgeoning and plenty. they were all very plausible ideas. the problem was he couldn’t arrive at a single one that would’ve been a good idea.

swiveling his feet to the end of the bed, he arose from her lap to reach for his phone. shit. “i have to go.” time was never a pleasant friend, though peter was a little glad it screwed him over this time.

“next time, i’ll come back with an idea.” he reached for his jacket and started for the door. compelled by some strange feeling, however, he turned back. he leaned down and planted a kiss on her forehead. “merry christmas, suzy bae. owl me if you get bored.”

(’ she scoffed ) you don’t need to make up for anything. what you’re doing is clearly not for my benefit – i’m fine without you! i stopped crying over you two weeks after we broke up because i knew my worth and how i deserved better. (’ she shook her head at his last words ) you don’t get to say that anymore. i don’t know how you even have the guts or if you literally have no shame to say that when you’re off with two of my closest friends. you lost me, you lost my friendship. i forgive you and i don’t hate you – i pity you. 

don’t do that. ( * furrows his eyebrows ) don’t bring them in. they have nothing to do with this. neither does yixing. this isn’t about that. ( * he wondered why she brought them up in the first place - what she knew that he didn’t and why it was a cause for concern ) can’t change what i feel much like i can’t change how badly i screwed up, or how you feel. it’s fine. i’ve accepted that too. ( * shrugs as if it was a reflex more than an intention, and in doing so felt like he’d carried the weight of the world on his back ) no matter how many times you say you’re okay with it, i’m still going to be as sorry as i ever will be. pity me all you want. i won’t bother you again. ( * murmurs before backing off ) happy holidays.

(’ her jaw locks at his apology, she knew it was sincere, but at the same time it irritated her. either way he would’ve been thinking those things and one way or another he would’ve asked ) you asked those things for a reason because you wanted me to some how prove your insecurities were correct so you could prove yourself right for once. which is almost laughable considering when we broke up you didn’t even give me the chance to say anything. (’ she unraveled her arms, a hand running through her hair, setting the box on the window sill ) peter, i haven’t thought any lesser of you since the break up. that was lesser. that was your rock bottom for any type of good impression you had on me. (’ she looks at him ) i don’t know what you want from me anymore. i don’t know what you expect and why you keep doing this. 

( * his ears burn bright, revealing she’d hit a lot of soft spots, but he took it - knowing he couldn’t say much to refute it ) maybe because i regret it? ( * laughs nervously, his hands clenching and unclenching ) i don’t expect anything. i just -  i keep thinking i need to make up for it because of that--because i didn’t hear you out. ( * breath catches, stomach tightening ) i thought i was doing you right by leaving you. you didn’t deserve all the bitterness that i put on you. but i underestimated how it’d make you feel. - and i didn’t think that i’d still love you.
